freelancer privateers (the common perception of pirates) cost businesses thousands, and kidnapped or killed their employees. How can pirates be brought in a positive light?

In regards to Pirates being positive, Blackbeard would set his own beard alight. How is that not cool? The bad guys always have fanboys, just look at Sephiroth and Sylar.

Gremlin, we're talking about Pirates now, get with the times.

I know. I just wanted to post that before we made a new thread.
Also: Vikings would SO win. Berserker rage. Also, they were cunning. Pirates were mainly people who had a bad education and were too lazy to get an honest living. For Vikings, they LIVED for fighting. They trained at it constantly, and for them, raiding WAS an honest living. Also: The Vikings could look forward to getting home. For the pirates, the shop was their only home. That gave the Vikings much better morale. Not to mention that pirates, regardless of what Pirates of the Caribbean will tell you, aren't very close. They will turn on each other if they think it will help them. The Vikings, however, were close-knit and friendly. They really cared about each other, and so they cooperated much better. What's a few cannons compared to that?

That's very stereotypical.
Pirates were actually very cunning, especialy ones such as Blackbeard, he was an extreamy clever man.
If there's one thing that pirates wern't, it's lazy.
Living as a pirate was hard, and ver harsh work.

As for your current avi, I like it, but you can add some more fusion effects, maybe blur the parts where he's joining and maybe add some glowing ect.
