No, I didn't see that one. I believe it was used as an actual torture. They sharpened the tips so they could grow through you easier.
There is also a way to impale a person so they stay alive for days while on the stake. Vlad perfected that method. The trick is to taper it off enough so it doesn't constrict the esophagus when it goes through your neck and out your mouth.

I know, it's disturbing. But I am a well of semi-useful information.
