Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
The demon turns as One is tossed off, growling as it prepares to charge. Then, from its one good eye, it sees the glint of the lighter being held out against it. The beast growls, taking a step back and baring its teeth. Its obviously extremely angry, but it seems to be waiting for an opening to overpower One and make him drop the lighter.
Finbar seems very distressed by the state of poor Alpha. His wincing has gotten considerably worse, but it seems that he is forcing himself to get up. Walking towards First and Alpha, he starts muttering as many facts about bodily damage as he knows. As he does this, he pulls out a WWII-era M2 Individual First Aid Kit. He'll offer it to First. From the moment he stands up to the moment he gives First the kit (assuming no one cuts him off as he does this) is;
"Oh, no. No, no, no. That is not good. Not good at all. You have compound traumatic fractures. Many, many compound traumatic fractures. Compound traumatic fractures are not good. Not good at all. No. We need treatments. Two treatments. Actually, more than two treatments, but two types of treatments. Yes, yes. Surgical and conservative treatments.
Acetaminophen and codeine are required to kill the pain. Less than half a kilogram of codeine must be used. Less than half, less than half. More than half can kill a man. Kill him dead very quickly. Blood loss is a bigger threat. Very big threat. You are losing lots of blood, too much blood. I am guessing it is either a Class II or Class III Hemorrhage. Fifteen to forty percent total blood loss. Fifteen to forty percent. This is not good, not good at all. Blood pressure may drop, as will capillary refill rate. Heart rate will increase, you may go into shock. It is not good, it is not good. Transfusion may be required. Your condition does not look good. Not at all. Oh, this is sad. Very sad..."
Of course, this is all for standard human beings. Due to the fact that this information only applies to standard humans and similar creatures (along with the fact that Finbar is stuttering the same way a toddler all hyped up on candy would), Alpha and First may wish to ignore the rant completely.Extended Homebrew Signature

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Good. It was scared. It had best stay that way.
Glancing around One sees his sickle is well out of reach, the demon between him and the weapon. Unfortunate. The lighter might be the only thing that had so far harmed the demon but it was rather a poor weapon on it's own, without edge or weight enough for bludgeoning. Killing with it would be tricky.
Unless... Jamming the lighter into the beast's eye-socket might be enough to finish the fight, fry the demon's brain inside it's skull. Yes, that ought to work.
Another step forward, advancing on the demon. Forcing the choice, fight or flight, upon it.
Finbar seems very distressed by the state of poor Alpha. His wincing has gotten considerably worse, but it seems that he is forcing himself to get up. Walking towards First and Alpha, he starts muttering as many facts about bodily damage as he knows. As he does this, he pulls out a WWII-era M2 Individual First Aid Kit. He'll offer it to First. Indeed, he's quite lucid, eyes flickering over to Finbar as the man begins to stutter and rant. No words though, pained shortness of breath putting speech at a premium.
Grabbing the medicine kit away from Finbar, First fumbles through it, looking for the drugs named, the acetaminophen and codeine. Neither substance is familiar to him, so unless they're labelled it's unlikely he'll find either.Meese Mobster by smuchmuch.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
The demon howls in anger as One takes a step closer. The demon takes a step back, but as One continues its advance, it seems to get slightly more panicked. It turns as if to run, but a brief second later it turns and prepares to charge.
When Finbar notices First is having trouble finding it, he'll dig through the medkit himself and get the drugs. As he reads the recommended dosages, he becomes more nervous.
Shaking his head, he starts exclaiming "Oh, no. This is bad. No, no, no. Very bad, very bad indeed. I am not a doctor. No, I am not qualified for this. Not qualified at all. We need a doctor. A real doctor. We need to figure out the dosage. I am not sure of the dosage for people like you. Not at all. I cannot help with the conservative treatment without knowing the exact dosage. It is dangerous to give incorrect dosages. Very dangerous.
Even if we find the proper dosage, the surgical treatment is beyond my capabilities. Far beyond my capabilities. Is it beyond your capabilities? Do you have experience with surgeries? I do not. Not at all. We need a doctor. Oh, we need a real doctor real bad."
Whether when he is done with this rant or when he is interrupted by Alpha or First (whichever comes first), Finbar will attempt to focus himself. He will ask for Alpha's height and weight and attempt to improvise from there.Extended Homebrew Signature

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Heading Towards the Mountains
Good. All according to plan.
One shifts into a close stance, forcing his muscles to relax as best he can, getting ready to move and move fast. Not like he's going to get more than one chance at this, so best not to screw it up.
He makes a feinting jab with the lighter, taunting the beast once more with it's fear of the silvered trinket. Angry and scared beasts might be the most vicious, but they're also clumsy, prone to making mistakes.
----
"Panicking will not help. Stop panicking and help." First snaps, trying to swipe the bottle out of Finbar's hands. "He's... Damn. First doesn't know his brother's weight. Or his own for that matter. All he knows is. "We have reinforced bones and muscles. Seventeen percent stronger. So... So we weigh more than we look." He says, reciting something he once heard one of the commanders say.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Forest Clearing]
Michicora's plan works rather well. The vine restraining her is indeed removed, and the flower-lady is left completely defenseless.
The last remaining vine lashes out to pierce straight through Trisha's head and-
Oop. Michicora's blade cuts deep into the flower-lady's shoulder. She screams and curls up helplessly in a ball inside the flower. The vine aimed at Trisha's head falls limply to the floor. The flower-lady would appear to have pretty much surrendered.
But the clearing itself remains closed off. Seems they'll have to finish off the poor defenseless naked flower-lady.

As the big scary beastie charges at Damon, he notices out of the corner of his eye that Yolvich isn't shooting. "It'ss a huge freakin' flying sserpent! You can't miss it, jusst sshoot the damn thing!" Whether or not Yolvich can even hear Damon over all the noise is questionable, but that's up to his player.
Now, to the more pressing matter, imminent pain coming straight at him.
A couple of different plans present themselves, factoring in his various different forms. He could try shifting into something very tough and taking it head-on and turning this fight into a straightforward battle of attrition. He could go for something agile and simply seek to outmanoeuvre this beastie and keep pelting it with fire.
Or he could for option C: Recognise that he doesn't really have enough time to put either of those plans into effect properly, turn into a weird shadow-y hare thing, and leg it outta the way at a pretty impressive speed. Before you criticise someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Forest Clearing
When the killing blow doesn't come, Trisha wipes the blood from her eyes before taking a couple steps close to try and behead the creature as quickly as possible. Even if it works, she'll begin hacking at the body again and again unless Michicora specifically stops her. She'll go on for quite some time.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
The demon roars in defiance as it reacts to the feint, swerving slightly to the left in its charge. It seems that it is trying to position itself so that while One is within its reach, it is outside One's reach.
That is not helpful. Not helpful at all. Oh, no..." He shakes his head, but he'll try to figure it out. Without an exact weight, Finbar's not feeling very comfortable about this. He stares at the bottles for about a minute, before saying I think I have it. I am not sure, but I think I have it. Give him [a dosage slightly higher than a standard dosage for whatever weight class Alpha would appear to belong to]. Yes, yes. Hopefully that is enough." Again, Finbar is not sure. He only added a small amount to the dosage, because he figures too little is better than too much in this case. He'll hand Alpha a water bottle to help him take the dosage.Extended Homebrew Signature

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Heading Towards the Mountain
Damn. One had been hoping the Fyarl wouldn't be quite that smart.
Well, he'd been readied to leap out of the way at the last second, so One does just that, springing back on the balls of his feet, away from the demon and out of it's reach.
Whiiiiiiiiich would put them right back into stalemate, two wary foes circling around each other. Not precisely desirable. Not when those self-inflicted cuts all down One's arm are still bleeding, his head starting to feel worryingly light from loss of vital essence. Yeah. Best to wrap this up quick.
Noting he's got his back to a fairly steep crest of sand, One begins backing up the dune, taking the higher ground. Going by his pose it looks that One's about to leap, getting ready to pounce the moment the demon draws within range. A tactic that invites easy counter-attack.
-------
Alpha's really not in much of a position to take the bottle of water. His upper ribs have been shattered you know, so it would take a fairly titanic effort to lift an arm and grasp hold of something.
So First takes the bottle instead, helping his brother and ally take the medicine before turning to Finbar. "Is my help needed here?" Because if not, he's got another twin who could also use some aid.Meese Mobster by smuchmuch.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Heading Towards the Mountain]
The demon is starting to get impatient were it not for the burning rage it was feeling due to the loss of its eye, it would have likely just given up by now. But as it is, it is beyond angry. So, it'll charge again. It'll fire its disgusting quick-hardening mucus as it charges in an attempt to stop One, but if that doesn't stop him than it will do nothing to stop his attempt at pouncing.
---
Finbar starts shaking his head. "Oh, no. No, no, no. I can't fix this. I do not know how to fix broken ribs. Should I just bandage them up? I can do that. Yes, I can just bandage them up. But I cannot do a surgery to really fix this. Not at all."Extended Homebrew Signature

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Pond
Is shapeshifting whilst in the crushing embrace of thousands of vines really a good idea? It seams to me that it'd be a good way to earn yourself some broken bones, with a big bonus if you have bones as brittle as a bat's. But, sure. Let's go with that.
Having lighter bones makes Mateo less dense, and thus grants him greater buoyancy. He can't see it through the pondweed encasing him, but he can feel himself moving upwards. Soon enough, though, the sensation stops. Either he's reached the surface or the pondweeds have stopped his upwards motion. Either way, though, their crushing embrace is growing swiftly tighter and tighter. It won't be long until it's tight enough to crush his bones. How much damage can a vampire survive?
((>> Maybe.))
That's more like it, the phantom grins. Now keep moving before I kick your ass in gear. Lifting her hand off Wenomir's shoulder, KR lifts her rifle from her shoulder and primes it with a loud cha-clak. She glances back at Wenomir, jerks her chin forward, and walks forwards down the path. Moments later, she vanishes into the mist."You tied your wings on tightly but they always come undone"

Not much more. Mateo did break a few bones when he was shapeshifting, and they won't heal. It was a last-ditch attempt, and it didn't work. Mateo will be crushed, eventually to the point where he's effectively decapitated and, hence, really dead.Terrowin Avatar by HappyTurtle. Much thanks!

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Forest]
Well. Not a Grovemind, then. Not that the Leannan has any clue what it is, but that's valuable information, sort of. And since it seems to be an entity instead, that should make somewhat less difficult, or at least difficult in different ways, to kill it.
So, using the splitting tree behind her, where the boundaries between hawthorn, tree, and air blur together, she tweens through the Hedge, reappearing a moment later in the uppermost branches of the treant, where the head would be on a human, holding a pair of half-empty wineskins, both with a lit fuse in them, which she drops into the bole of the treant, before, unless it can somehow stop her, tweening out again, this time into the limbs of one of the trees currently in the process of being torn apart.
The wineskins, meanwhile, should, after a few seconds, when the rather intense flame on the fuse reaches the alcohol fume/air mixture in each of them, explode, possibly doing some damage directly, though that's not terribly likely, and almost certainly sending burning wine (or, more precisely, burning spirits of wine, which is rather more concentrated, and thus burns better) all over the treant.

Desert
Ugh. Of all the disgusting, horrid ways to die, being suffocated by mucus would have to be right near the top of the list. It's a fate One is eager to evade, although that's easier said than done. Rather than simply dodging and letting another chance to end this fight slip through his fingers, One leaps, getting hit dead center in the process.
It immediately begins to solidify, but it won't begin to hinder movement for a few seconds more. Hopefully enough time to end this. One grabs at the Fyarl demon, trying to lock arms and legs around it and hold on, no doubt burning it with the lighter in the process.Meese Mobster by smuchmuch.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
The demon is shocked and slightly confused by the way One willing gets hit by the mucus if it'll mean he'll win. That sort of dedication is rare in the Fyarl's prey, and it scares him. Maybe this fight isn't worth it? But then again, this fight probably stopped being worth the risk as soon as it lost its eye...
But anyway, the Fyarl now has a supersoldier locking his arm around its body! The stinging from the lighter seems to intensify as the flesh it touches starts to burn and decompose its flesh. He lets out an elephantine roar before trying to use its brute strength to force One off. The burns are making it hard to focus its strength, however, so it might not do a very good job with that.Extended Homebrew Signature

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Heading Towards the Mountains
It's the sort of dedication that can only be born of sheer crazy. One doesn't really care if he's killed as long as he goes down fighting, concerned with his own survival only in that death means he can no longer kill. Backing down, or worse yet running away, seems to him immeasurably worse than simple death.
It is with this mindset that he ignores the brutishly strong hands clamping down on him and crushing, using his legs to hold on as best he can and trying to hook his partially immobilized right hand over the demon's shoulder, use that to pull himself up so that he can jam the silver lighter right into the beast's eyesocket.
-------
"Well, I don't know surgery either, so we'll just have to bandage him up." It's the best they can do for Alpha now, seeing as neither have advanced medical experience and they're unlikely to find a doctor wandering these wastes. Past that, well, mayhaps the Goddess will smile on him.Meese Mobster by smuchmuch.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
[Heading Towards the Mountains]
Again, the Fyarl is shocked by the lengths at which One will go to kill it. This shock gives One the moment he needs to lift himself upwards and jab the lighter into his half-melted eye socket. The creature howls in pain, attempting to force One off of him once again. Assuming it succeeds, it'll start clawing its face open in an attempt to rip the lighter out, still howling as it does so. Apparently the pain from the burning is worse than the feeling of ripping its own flesh off. It must be extremely brutal. If the beast is unable to do so, it'll force itself forward so that the demon will attempt to squash one from its weight.
___
Finbar pulls out the bandages from the M2 Individual First Aid Kit, and begins the long process of trying to seal the wounds. "Okay, okay. I think I can do this. Yes, I think I can. I am pretty sure I can, at least. Pretty sure... This won't be a perfect solution, though. No, not at all. He still needs medical attention. Lots and lots of medical attention. This is either a Class II or Class III Hemorrhage. Fifteen to forty percent total blood loss. This is not good, not good at all..." He continues bandaging, though, so if First wants to go help One, Finbar can take care of the rest.Last edited by LOTRfan; 2012-07-05 at 08:52 PM.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Heading Towards the Mountains
Whether or not the lighter can be removed depends largely upon the ratios and scales present within the Fyarl demon's form. If it can fit a finger into it's eyesocket and around the lighter, then it'll have little trouble removing the accursed silver. Otherwise, One should have lodged it pretty well, so I can imagine the Fyarl might end up pushing it deeper.
Shoving One to the ground, well, that's easier. The supersoldier certainly wouldn't object. The only obstacle there is that by this point, his death-grip is less than voluntary, his limbs sealed in place by the mucus. But in either case, there's little chance of him avoiding the demon should it fall.
-------
"Good. You do that. I've got to go." Even before he's spit out the last syllable First is off, running full tilt for the battleground. His goal is to ram the demon, shove it away from his brother.
As for his odds of succeeding, he's a good two hundred sixty pounds of solid muscle with a fair bit of momentum behind him. If he reaches the fight in time, he should be able to shift the ugly creature. Assuming he reaches the fight in time. And that the demon doesn't dodge.Meese Mobster by smuchmuch.

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
The Fyarl keeps digging to the point that the left part of it's skull collapses in upon itself, leaving a very gory mess as musculature begins to deform and black blood starts pouring out from its face. This, of course, means that all progress it has made trying to get to the lighter has been lost, as the collapsing tissue covers up the gaping wounds it created in its attempt to dig them out. The howling is getting louder as the smell of burning flesh becomes stronger. This is not going well for the Fyarl.
It tries to shove One down, but the mucus is too strong. The Fyarl decides to end this problem by bashing One's head into a bloody pulp, but before it can attempt this action the demon goes into shock. Body convulsions start just as First rams into it. In this state, the demon had no chance of dodging. At this point, it can barely remember what it was doing a few minutes ago. All that is left is overwhelming pain and suffering. Whether or not One gets away really comes down to if he is strong enough to break the dried mucus, but assuming he can the Fyarl won't try to keep him from getting away.Extended Homebrew Signature

And I'm afraid the answer is, no, One cannot break free. Not in time anyway. Not if the mucus was strong enough to resist the Fyarl's efforts, the demon having had a significant advantage upon him in the first place strength-wise.Meese Mobster by smuchmuch.

In that case, One will find that the Fyarl will be collapsing right on top of him. It seems that whatever demons are made out of is more dense and heavy than standard flesh as well, seeing as how the Fyarl weighs about a ton. Which may not bode well for One at all.
Finbar has finished bandaging up Alpha. Now, the tricky part is getting Alpha out of the way without reopening the gaping wounds. He'll try to tuck his sweatshirt under Alpha's body so that he can drag him to a safer distance without having to physically touch him.Extended Homebrew Signature

Re: [Nexus] The Hunting Grounds
Hunting Grounds
No, no it doesn't. But hopefully his brother can help, slamming into the demon again, trying to alter it's trajectory so it doesn't fall directly upon One. Shifting aside a solid ton of dead weight is no easy proposition. But it's not impossible either, not with First's boosted strength.

Alpha grunts in pain a little as he's pulled along, but pulled along he is, hopefully away from any further danger.Meese Mobster by smuchmuch.
