Whoa, temporal whiplash!
Hopefully Annie doesn't feel like an insect compared to Jones, now...

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Mystery solved!
This is the real killer. Everything Jones just told Annie contradicts Coyote's theory of human thought being the source of the supernatural. Apparently Annie was told something about Jones from Yes, but she didn't realize the extent of it until just now.
I think the time travel theory is highly unlikely. My theory is that Jones is an inversion of Coyote's theory, a supernatural being whose thoughts indirectly caused life to come into existence and humanity to be created (explaining how she can appear human and act passably human, but predate humanity).Last edited by Thomar_of_Uointer; 2012-11-07 at 12:10 PM.
I make games.
"...I worry that modern gaming is gradually shrinking the wide spectrum of gameplay mechanics into a single narrow red bar with "KILL" written on it sideways. Exploration, navigation, puzzles, platforming, all gradually shrinking away until only one thing remains, being taken by the hand from room to room, moving on only when nothing remains alive in each one." - Yhatzee Crosshaw

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Jones has been pantomiming her backstory throughout this entire flashback. She just got to the part where she strips naked.
A father taken by time, a brother dead by my own hand.
With this work behold my grief, in Stone and shifting sand.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Annie's face and that wiki link made this whole chapter worth it. I laughed so hard people stared. Well played, Tom!
Also, is this actually going to answer any questions, or is that it?Thanks to flumphy for the avatar

This better have a payoff.
I don't want mysteries for the sake of mysteries.
Even detective stories have the mystery change something.

More and more, I get the feeling that Jones has no idea who Jones is. That the fact that a species that just happened to look like her appeared after billions of years is a mystery to her too.

Which princess does that make Jones?
(/* has only a tangental knowledge of the other series)- Sometimes, the knights are the monsters
- The main problem with the world? So many grownups, not enough adults.

You get this sense of incredulity from Annie's expressions in this particular comic that is particularly interesting, especially since she is usually not the skeptical one.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Well! That was more than I was expecting. I was all but certain we wouldn't find out exactly why or how Jones is so old (either Annie wouldn't be told, or we'd skip past it). That Jones doesn't know either is intriguing.
I can't help but be reminded of this exchange from the Fellowship of the Ring:
Frodo: "Tell me, lady, who is Tom Bombadil?"
Goldberry: "He is."Avatar by GryffonDurime. Thanks!
