Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
Ah, robosexuality. A complex issue, but, in the end, love is love. Or, in Robot's case, anthrosexuality.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
Why wouldn't they be? Diego apparently made them as human-like mentally as he could, giving them emotions and self-awareness. They can feel hate - witness Robot's feelings when he was put in the S1 body and took part in Diego's morality play - and sorrow and reverence; why would love be beyond them?

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
It wouldn't be the first time humans refuse to study the emotions of their robotic creations, afraid of what they might find, afraid to be unable to see a true difference between "artificial" emotions and their own.
Beside, robots were made to be tools and servants. Self-awareness are unfortunate side effects.
In other words, it seems pretty obvious to me that robots are capable of genuine love, but that humans either ignore or deny it, and robots are led to believe it themselves.Originally Posted by on Dwarf Fortress succession games

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
Can I just say this is adorable? Too bad Kat has underlying issues regarding he gender role, although maybe she's over that by now? Still seems like a tenuous situation.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
So sweet! This makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
I do hope Kat can accept it.. or perhaps, this will bring her to realise that she has feelings for Annie? But that would mean Paz is getting hurt..
*sigh* So complicated. Yet, so satisfying.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
After an Archive dive, here is the incident to which Paz refers. Seems SHE was the impetus for Kat's crisis anyway... this may complicate things.
Or it could be something he had planned... I don't see any signs of this being forced or inserted.Proud dictator of the miko fan club

It's best to get this out in the open now. It'd only get more awkward after they found out that Kat's a robot.

Poor Paz. She's not a bird or a robot or a fire elemental, so she hasn't got a chance.

Wow, that reminds me that sometimes Annie is Not Very Nice. Tom you really have written a fantastic character - I still like her, but I forget sometimes about her rather severe flaws.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
Well, there's two things I (re)read recently that reminded me of it - one was her treatment of Jack. Obviously she had her reasons but I don't think even she'd say they were very good. The other is copying Kat's homework under the cover of a mask. There are many interpretations of what it could be, but I don't think any reflect very well on Antimony.
Of course, through all these events we've seen her slowly maturing. It really is beautiful - I don't think she'd do now the same things she did then. Watching them grow has been beautiful.Last edited by Cavelcade; 2013-05-22 at 03:37 PM.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 4: Friends in Need
This strikes me as an odd character choice, given that Paz was a) apparently interested in boys a short while ago, and b) had a perfect opportunity to confess such feelings during Faraway Morning (which occured after "From the Forest She Came"), and c) eventually went about confessing her feelings in a very odd, roundabout way involving robotic love letter-writing surrogates. Unless that's the sort of thing that makes perfect sense to young girls?
It also seems strange that Bobby would not simply tell Kat the truth when confronted. "It was not me, Angel, but Miss Paz who has romantic feelings for you." Like, WTF Bobby?
I suppose I should be the last person to criticize another writer's characterization, but this feels off to me. I can't help but wonder if there's another shoe going to drop here, like Paz ripping off her face to reveal she's actually Old Man Jenkins from the abandoned amusement park.Last edited by Giggling Ghast; 2013-05-24 at 12:35 PM.
