The Inside Plague

Druidic magic. It can do just about anything related to nature, but my particular style is a rather scientific-medical kind. With a flourish, he presents a business card that identifies him as Toby Druid, MD, MB BS, BM BCh, Esq, PA, RN, MMS, MFS, BA, EMT-P, DD, JD, PhD, BAMF. I am the Medical Director at GLoG. We do charity work, if you haven't heard of us.

Ashley examines the card. She isn't terribly impressed with all of the acronyms, since she doesn't know all of them and she's pretty sure that last one is made up. All the same, she hands it back and sighs. "I can probably use an extra pair of hands. This stuff is caused by a fungus in the body. Finding and purging all of it removes the plague, but it can get pretty hard to find."

Anyone who knows Toby would doubt he's earned even half of those titles and degrees legitimately. Yes, I have a magical construct back at my lab that was made for in-depth scanning... I can scan an entire body on my own with a spell, of course, but it takes energy. The back of the card has the phone numbers for the Med Lab and the Infirmary at GLoG, and Toby's personal cell number as well. He'll let her keep it; he's had thousands printed. I've heard that you use arcane magic to do the job. Where did you learn that? He steps over to the next patient and begins casting spells to first locate, then remove the fungi.

"I didn't learn it," Ashley says as she prepares her own spell. It'll be a few minutes before she has to concentrate. "The spells are of my creation, I've been trying to make arcane magic that can heal for a long time now."

Ah, a clever innovator! Fantastic! Toby grins broadly, genuinely thrilled. As he helps eliminate the fungi, he closely watches the mage work. Up close, displaying a childlike exuberance for learning, he doesn't look anything like the monster he has been described as.

Ashley concentrates on the patient before her. The magic she uses can be compared to Reiki, only not because the magic behind her spell is real. Unless Tobias can see the magic behind the spell scouring through the man laying on a stretcher, he probably won't see much.

Toby's senses are more attuned to divine magic than arcane magic, so he probably doesn't learn anything useful. But it certainly looks interesting. Do you know, I've never seen arcane magic being used to help people like that. Sure, I've seen it hurt, injure, and destroy people and things in all sorts of ways, and yeah, I've witnessed some nifty transformative magic in my time, but this is rather novel.

"I-" Ashley hesitates a moment before continuing. "I was sick of only being able to hurt people."

Kayden starts eating and says between bites,
"Well-" he begins rattling off various bits and ingredients. They're not very uncommon, and she should even know what most of them are. Lola seems to have lucked out; Kayden can cook. Not necessarily well, but he can.
"Probably be cheaper than eating out. And better than just noodles."

DINER

Lola sits impressed, scribbling his ingredients on the napkin. "You know your stuff, but the entire list is just a bit out of my price range..." Lola struggles to get the the next half of her sentence out, "so can I borrow some money for groceries?" Goodness she seems annoyed with herself, having to constantly rely on Kayden's generosity.

"The plan, says Jace as he walks back into the streets, is to use this being to find as many of her companions as we can find today, then bring everyone together to free them. And since it's a free-willed being and I don't condone slavery, I suppose it isn't anyone's dagger."

Randii listens to Jace's explanation intently.

Kayden nods. "No problem, lass. The food's for me, too."

The man doesn't make the mistake of startling as he's called out, but again his ears show a life of their own and flatten down guiltily. Hesistantly, he lowers the pamphlet he'd been feigning interest in and nods shortly, making sure to glance both ways before crossing the street towards them. "So, uh, hey?"

By the time Rein looks back the mask has vanished from the table, the shopkeep hanging upside-down from his perch on the beams of the tent again. "Done deal. Three for the mask, but careful with the not touching the others. They're delicate. Get smudged with human fingerprints easy. Hard to clean."
"They take a little water for feed, not too much at once. Pop them in the icebox if they wilt."

Randii listens to Jace's explanation intently.

Jace raises an eyebrow.
"Should I repeat the part about it being a free-willed being we were sent to free and not condoning slavery anyway?"

Okay, first off, you said that you don't condone slavery. I never said anything of the sort.

Second, I was saying I want the dagger, not the spirit.

Kayden nods. "No problem, lass. The food's for me, too."

"Yeah. Yeah. It's just a bit frustrating, being so needy." She sets down her pen and pockets the list before going to town on her sausages. "I'll go shopping, then go look for work."

"You're really planning this in advance, aren't you? Alright, once we free the spirits we'll see if this thing is needed for anything and if it isn't or dangerous for some reason it's yours."

Randii chuckles. Dude, it's a weapon. It's dangerous. Duh.

Palta's voice sounds in Jace's mind. Jace, if I may ask, how did you find my exact location?

"I meant 'it could explode at any minute' or 'is part of ritual to take over the world being hunted by cultists' or something. And yes, I do have to worry about these things."

I have extremely strong magic sensing ability due to my bloodline. Plus, I live in this city, so I knew what to look for, that is, something new to the area.

Mikani follows with a broad grin, alternating between looking out for passing birds (really, picking feathers out of your teeth is a pain) and looking down for their quarry.

"Is this great or what?!"

The few birds that do fly by are small and agile. None should hit Mikani. Hikari grins. "Yeah... I love flying."

There are a number of people walking down below, although only two seem to fit any sort of necromancer vibe at all. One is a young man in a long green jacket, the other is an old woman in a white robe.

Waldorf opens his mouth in disbelief, "How unbelievably rude. She could have left a copy of herself here with us rather than vanish entirely without indulging in some play. At least I'm nearly certain she could." It's so hard to tell who's a delusional nutjob and who's a being of immense and unknowable mysterious power these days. Oftentimes, they're both.

"So, is there anything else to do besides harass mysterious little girls in the street?"

Copi is quiet a moment. "Well, truth be told, if you can't think of anything else to do, I have a will to write. I really shouldn't put it off, as even though I do know what Kate would think, it's something that requires quite a lot of thought."

Toby stares at her for a long time before giving a wistful smile. Yes, it's rather nice to play the healer for a change, isn't it?

Ashley doesn't respond to that, as the spell she's currently performing now requires a lot more concentration than it just did. She has to burn away all of the fungus in her patient without actually damaging them.

The Druid moves on to the next patient and repeats his spells. It doesn't seem to prevent him from talking, though. Me, I actually started out as a healer and then decided to use my magic to hurt people. At first, I was just trying to end the damn war before any more of my friends got killed. But I found out that fighting gave me a thrill that medicine didn't. So I tried that out for awhile... Ah, what a hotblooded young man I was... It should be noted that he only looks to be around 25 years old. I got tired of fighting. Moved here, started a family, began to practice medicine again. A nice, quiet life.

It's a few minutes before Ashley is finished clearing out the plague from the patient in front of her. After giving him a healing potion and sending him on his way, Ashley sighs and leans against the stretcher he just left.

Toby starts working on a third patient, watching the mage out of the corner of his eye.

Ashley looks fairly tired right now - she'd cured quite a few people before Toby showed up, and all that magic's starting to take its toll on her. She reaches into her bag and pulls out a bottle of water, drinking heavily from it.

Ashley glances at Toby when he calls her kid. He barely looked any older than her. "I study how my magic works, try to do new things with it." Mostly healing, but there are other things she wants to do as well.

By the time he's scanned and eliminated the fungi in five patients, the Druid starts to look tired. Mm, sounds interesting. You affiliated with any of the groups in these parts or are you a solo act?

After some food and rest, Ashley looks raring to go again, having a lot more energy than she should right now. "I'm acting on my own." Technically she has a NO license, but she doubts that they would want anything to do with this, given that she isn't making money from it. "How come you're so interested?"
