Hmm, I think Discord was probably right. And that was an awkward bit of group dynamics all around. I like this conflict though. The opinion of everyone other than Twilight wasn't really wrong. Being a leader does come with responsibility not to always throw yourself headfirst into danger because you need to, y'know, lead.

But on the other hand, I think it should have been obvious that something related to the elements of harmony would require all of them.

Also, Twilight is apparently now helpless and needs constant saving because, of course she has no magic and must rely on escaping using her wings only.

Pretty good all-around, with things only getting stupid near the end (You could give me a week and I wouldn't be able to finish explaining why sending Twilight back was a bad idea.) Stellar animation and comedy for sure.


* Messing with the main characters in order to teach them a lesson? That's the Q I know and love! He took any scene he was in and ran off laughing with it.

* Not that much fanon trashed, except maybe Pink-Hair Celestia and any possibility of there being other old wielders besides Celly/Luna being trashed (Not that it was ever likely to begin with), I guess. Didn't have enough context on those flashbacks for fanon destruction to really happen.

*I'm sure ditching your direct weapons against the forces of darkness won't cause a sudden spike in episodes where you need to find a way to deal with them, no sirree!
**Hopefully this might mean a more varied set of villains, because they won't need to be ludicrously powerful physical gods/epic-level spellcasters in order to counter the EoH.

Why does nobody in Equestria have a saw?

I did like Discord here, especially seeing as how he tied it all together. And how he turned out to be the voice of reason, despite being the cause of it all. Heh, friendship lesson indeed.

It was nice to see Applejack getting a few more lines than other episodes. It feels like they're trying to give her some more screentime, with all the exposition. I hope that isn't the only thing they plan to have AJ do, though.

As a little aside, I note that there is a think called the Morning Star, visible at times in the sky as the sun rises. (It's Venus, if you're curious.) I do wonder if the ending was an intentional reference to that or not.

The timing was lackluster there, probably the worst part of the episode. What I find interesting is that the lesson isn't all that clear. They were together, Twilight almost got hurt, and what made them change was the realization that if all the princesses dropped, Equestria would kind of fall apart (or Cadance would come back and the Crystal Empire would fall apart, minor details). It's a reasonable idea that I hope they explore more: being a leader means being responsible for other people, and that sometimes means not doing the things you want to do because you need to be leading instead.

There's a good lesson in sending Twilight back. In another context where it wasn't so painfully obvious what needed to be done, sending Twilight back, or perhaps leaving her back from the start could easily have been the right choice. I'd love to see a story where the lesson is that when you're in charge, you can't run off and do your own thing, but need to be responsible for the people you're in charge of.

So here's a thought. Zecora mentions that the potionelixir can be whitened only by "alicorn magic". But this is not the magic of friendship, as Magical Mystery Cure implied. No, no! It is a kind of magic we've seen only three, maybe four ponies use: Princess Celestia, Princess Twilight and King Sombra, with Sunset Shimmer as an edge case based solely on similar, though not identical, visual effects. Perhaps what we know as "dark magic" is, in fact, a kind of "alicorn magic," one only that breed can use without going all demon-y or "crystals, slaves, blargh" on us. Note that Luna's transformation was not accompanied by "dark magic", and that she did not use it after her transformation.
