Welcome to the game! Wherever you choose to start, I hope you enjoy it.

Since everyone else is doing it, I'll throw in my two vassals:

The Alydaxan Dominion! A large NPC with five regions, mostly made up of lizardfolk, as well as ancient ruins that could be fleshed out and a mysterious pillar in one of the regions.

Or there's the Sulvan Primarchy! A mixed bag of dwarves and humans, with one mostly-undefined region (20B). Also the best place to go if you're shopping for eldritch horrors from the bowels of the earth.

Also, both of them are large enough vassals to become GKs under my Empire- the Empire of the Silver Moon.

It's special steel. I felt that special steel requiring Iron was a no-brainer.

Yeah. I just thought it was worth making the point that realistically the iron is a prerequisite almost everyone can meet by default, so it's all on the project (or any secondary resources). It's a fine line between a technology being too exclusive (albeit a reasonable one for military technologies) and too accessible (although, again, philanthropic techs like Appertisation that you're planning to distribute widely can benefit from that).

I was just thinking of what the EMPIRE! OOC threads used to be, especially as they moved faster than Random Banter threads at some point. I think the chat about previous EMPIRE! things, ideas for current and new projects and trade helped a lot? Quite a bit of it has moved into the Skype, which is a real shame if you ask me.

Does anyone remember what was talked about back then? Thinking about it may help with ideas/topics to put some more activity back into the OOC thread, and if it was in fact ideas for current and new things then I think it's important that such things are discussed here as well as Skype and PMs so more people can see and contribute to the world-building.

I think a fair amount of it was rules queries and discussions, both generally and specific to certain players. But there was also the low level of commentary, discussion, joking around, and so on, on current events within the game: stuff on the round openers, other players' actions, and so on, and it's that sort of thing that seems to have moved over to Skype at least among the players who are on Skype. Gengy is right that the majority of stuff we talk about there is just general blather and non-Empire!-related (although perhaps not by quite so much as he indicates) but a lot of the Empire chatter that goes on is the sort of thing that would previously have been done here.

I'm not sure what the answer is. The Skype chat was of course never really intended to be an Empire OOC discussion let alone to replce it: it started out as a Venture! chat but then when interest in the venture in question died it became a regular general Empire chat and then everyone got invited to it and it became an ongoing thing. It's both more and less convenient: the immediacy of it means it's better for getting responses quickly (when people are online) but the limited scrollback functionality means it's much easier to miss entire conversations, and of course the people who aren't in the chat will miss all of it.

@Wombat - Thank you for working on that. I have two points of correction, one minor, one more serious to myself.

(1) In an official piece of news, Duc Fozik revealed that the name of the nation will remain the Regnum of Praeclarus

• Duc Fozik officially reaffirms all existing treaties, and declares his intent to make Myrwik the Capital of a grand underwater kingdom, honoring the other regions of the kingdom by continuing to call it the Regnum of Praeclarus.

(2) Diplomacy Stat for Duc Fozik should currently be 8. When it was only 5, Duc Fozik was still a free NPC (round 40). At the end of that turn, it went up +1. Round 41, I started with Duc Fozik at 6, as agreed by both myself and QB. I did not have to do a re-roll, I didn't get the stat boosts from my own Round 40 actions, but I did get the stat boosts from the actions of Duc Fozik as of Round 40.

Round 40 = Dip 5 (+1) [NPC actions boost stat]
Round 41 = Dip 6 (+2) [Gengy gains control]
Round 42 = Dip 8 (current round)

I can understand how that was missed; the Great Surrendering was quite strange. I tried to clarify it in the post that I'm quoting in the spoiler below.

To forestall questions, here's what this does (OOC), per what Quinton and I spoke of:

1. Praeclarus surrenders to Myrwik; U34 gains the following regions (U31, U32, U33; U16, U17)
2. The leader will "remain" Duc Fozik (effectively, Gengy takes over the giant NPC nation that was just created)
3. Duc Fozik will retain his stats, and only gain bonuses based on the actions he takes this round
4. The nation will still be called "Praeclarus" (or Rengum of Praeclarus)
5. Yes, there will be actions spent to stabilize regions

This stat boost is most serious to me, because it changes when I can get a Great Kingdom Please feel free to speak with Quinton to verify, and if I have misunderstood something, let me know.

As for selling vassals to the new players, I'd just like to recommend Sulvan's Fury and Alydaxis. Both are strong states with great potential so if you like Dwarves or Lizardfolk, they're a good choice.

With regards to choices for NPCs to take over, the buffet is large and potentially overwhelming, so it might be better to ask where your tastes lie before taking you by all the options. It's a bit too late for that now, now that others have already advertised some NPCs, but I'll add two more:

• Nixdarum: do you like underwater kingdoms? Do you want to have some vaguely defined regions you can flesh out to your tastes? Do you like trilobites? Do you want to be a strong member of a powerful and influential empire? Then this is the choice for you!
• Niemida: do you like to live on the frontier? Do you want to live on the coast, giving you access to a lot of trade options? Do you like peoples with a varied history and culture? Do you like swords? Then Niemida is the place to be!
