Re: Roland's Merciful Modly Mash-up Random Banter Thread #221
According to Google, Opera + Rap = Hip-hop.
I'm not so sure about that...
I use braces (also known as "curly brackets") to indicate sarcasm. If there are none present, I probably believe what I am saying; should it turn out to be inaccurate trivia, please tell me rather than trying to play along with an apparent joke I don't know I'm making.

Re: Roland's Merciful Modly Mash-up Random Banter Thread #221
Ok, no Brexit snark this time.
Thing is more the where and not the what, as well as what you're willing to do for it.
I live in close proximity to the German capital and I get into conversations with lots of young people from all across Europe as part of my current job, but especially young educated and trained specialists from Berlin. One thing I noticed is that most of them are unwilling to move towards lucrative jobs when they see the overall setup as being a reduction to their work-life-balance, social or entertainment options, whatever.
So Berlin has a high concentration of specialists, so employers are blessed to pick the cream from the crop and that for comparatively low wages, simple effect of overabundance of potential workers, while the real industrial powerhouses are mostly situated in rural areas and struggle to find employees, as the villages or small towns they are attached to are not attractive enough for people whom have studies in the major metropolitan areas. Amongst other things, that means that they are willing to pay the price for relocation and language training and such.
To be honest, I was mediocre as a freelance SAP developer, but then again, I was willing to spent my time in countries like Syria, Vietnam or Cambodia, working for branches of international companies that simply couldn't find adequate people there, so at times my wage for one day was what an equal developer would earn for a month (and I got to see the world).
No. This is me knowing companies that are desperate for entry level engineers, even with... *ahem*... certain handicaps, but wouldn't touch AW because of the unresolved status.Last edited by Florian; 2019-05-09 at 02:38 PM.

I'm going to get to sleep in my own bed tonight after a week and a half of sleeping on a hospital couch. Today is a good day.

Re: Roland's Merciful Modly Mash-up Random Banter Thread #221
In all honesty, I've thought about it, but I really do think the Autism would make controlling a classroom difficult (also, with maths teachers in the family the advice I've had is 'don't').
That's interesting, and I haven't been restricting myself to just London. My main problem with moving to other countries to work is a mixture of language and essentially needing a support network for my life to not crash in on itself (hello first year uni). So while I could do the majority of England or San Francisco with ease, anywhere else I'm not quite sure how I'd cope, and I'd likely end up being a lot of trouble for employers. While I do know people in Germany (including both natives and friends who've moved to Berlin), I'm not certain I'd be able to manage everything until either work or my health began to be neglected.
Now a small town or village wouldn't be a massive problem for me, especially if decently connected, because I spent part of my childhood in a large village, but there's the major problem of being unable to drive which means most of the jobs I've found that would take me don't want me for that.
No. This is me knowing companies that are desperate for entry level engineers, even with... *ahem*... certain handicaps, but wouldn't touch AW because of the unresolved status.

Re: Roland's Merciful Modly Mash-up Random Banter Thread #221
To be honest, I actually meant the things you just mentioned yourself, the mental health issues, inability to drive and such. I just wanted to be a bit tactful about that.
But that just means a careful selection process for potential destinations, like a decent infrastructure, universal healthcare that also includes (functional) mental health and decent employee rights. Added cream on top would be how bilingual a country or region is to begin with and how many expats are around for additional socializing.
To understand my way of thinking, you'll want to avoid larger countries with too much of a focus on their capital or just one or two metropolitan areas. France is basically Paris and the rest, Spain is basically only Madrid and Barcelona and so on, the rest is more or less neglected hinterlands. The situation is different in the region starting with the Netherlands to the north, Belgium to the west, Poland to the Right and the italian regions of Southern Tirol / Alto Aldige and the Veneto to the South. (I wouldn't necessarily recommend Italy because for whatever reason, they are horrible at english). SF would be out by default, as would be the U.S. in general.
Besides that, new employment of UK citizens has basically dropped to zero in continental EU, because we have the promise that there is a solution in place for existing contracts, but haven't seen the full details of it, and really nobody has any effing clue what will happen later, what will be necessary and how it will turn out. Independent of how things will develop (or not), it´s not the worst thing in the world to have dual citizenship and carry two passports. When the B-thingie really comes to pass, you'll be glad for it.

I've been drinking non-sugar flavour coffee at Dunkin' lately. It's better than the sugar-flavour coffee but it still have caffeine which is the best part to keep me awake at work plus the energetic excitement of being hyper.

For Anonymouswizard: if you have a basic idea of electricity and programming, you might look for a job programming plcs as a controls engineer.

Don't feel the need to be too tactful, I might mistake you for a nemesis!

Honestly one of my problems was always electricity, I can do it, but I'll need to refresh my memory. (Also, it can be really gosh darned difficult to find such jobs.)
Annoyingly my speciality is really in digital logic, and really annoyingly it's at the level of individual gates (my Final Year Project only started moving once I abandoned HDLs and designed the circuit manually). It's one of those areas that people don't quite need, but I'm good enough at it to make rather complex functions graphically instead of behaviourally.

Guess who's baaack I figured this would be the best place to say hi to 2D8HP.
My completely awesome avatar (I call her Quill) has been generously crafted by the esteemed Honest Tiefling!

Oh, I see who the important one is. Just so you know, there are other things in life that are important beyond age and a willingness to complain! Like, uh... er… oh, I guess that's all that matters on the internet.
(Also, welcome back. )

Re: Roland's Merciful Modly Mash-up Random Banter Thread #221
I'm not sure, Is mouth watering considered creepy?
Also it's just my luck that, as I finally get around to making a doctor's appointment to deal with a private* problem I should have dealt with a year and a half ago another one potentially rears it's ugly head. Seriously body, these appointments are already ten minutes long, I'm going to need another one to look into my leg already!

Good creepypastas are like any good story. Out of the listed ones here I think "The Showers," the goatman story, "Dogscape," and "Penpal" are nicely crafted.
Bad creepypastas, on the other hand, are like the aforementioned pastas. Egh.

I would really like to see a game made by Obryn, Kurald Galain, and Knaight from these forums.
