What is the best way to munchkin projectiles?
Goal: Stable, long term storage, magic ammunition that can be thrown with one hand, capable of delivering maximum damage.
Resources: I have almost unlimited resources in this game, including a special hyperbolic time chamber for our artificer to craft in, and he has a gift. All magic damage is doubled from items that he crafts.
What is the best way to attach big damage spells, like fireball etc.. to a stone, or a similar projectile, which can be thrown with one hand, and can be stored safely and stably?
Background for those interested -
Battle Magic is pretty cool at 14th level bard, because I can make a free attack with every spell.
My bard has a shield (that he needs) and one free hand.
With that one free hand I want something I can throw that really does major damage so I can keep pace with this munchkined party, so magic stone and it's ilk won't do.

The simple answer is sketch a glyph of warding onto something throwable. Like a grenade. https://www.dndbeyond.com/equipment/...-fragmentation
Trigger is detonation of the object.
Use your highest spell slots and just produce a ton.
This reply is dumb and I feel bad for having written it.Last edited by Sherlockpwns; 2024-05-19 at 03:55 AM.

Thrown items typically have garbage range. Might want to rethink that Fireball thing. Just sayin'.
I really need a new avatar.Nah, I'm good.

Just make magical ammo, then. Not that there are many high-damage options for that. If it's slashing or piercing damage (like most throwing weapons) you can add poison on top.

It's Eberron, not ebberon.
It's not high magic, it's wide magic.
And it's definitely not steampunk. The only time steam gets involved is when the fire and water elementals break loose.

Re: What is the best way to munchkin projectiles?
Just make a magic item that does it. Look at the Necklace of Fireballs or Bead of Force for examples.

Re: What is the best way to munchkin projectiles?
I also missed that part of it in a game.
DM subscribed to Rule of Cool though and let me carry around a book with iron pages where I could open it and set off the glyph. Sometimes I needed mage hand for the explosive glyph.
It was also good for concentration spells, since it automatically has max length.
Anyway. The magical grenade should say "Pick Me Up." And detonate upon being lifted.Last edited by herrhauptmann; 2024-05-28 at 11:20 AM.
