Re: Notebook Sketches
Bah, I hate drawing on the computer.
Spoiler
Was mostly anatomy practice, I've already noticed his right arm is way to long and his left leg is kinda..wonky, to name a few things wrong with it.
I can normally get the position right, but when it comes to actually turning all the pretty colored circles into a form everything goes downhill.

Re: Notebook Sketches
The wire frame you did was great, really good.
What I noticed when you "fleshed" out the drawing, was that the left legs position moved up slightly, along with the right shoulder most of the chest. This is what caused the arm extension, so to speak.
How did you draw over the frame?

Re: Notebook Sketches
Not exactly sure if I understand what you mean..
But flash uses layers, so I can have say a circle on layer 1. then I'll add another layer on top of the 1st one and when I draw on that all the objects will go ontop of anything in a lower layer. or vice versa if I was to move the new layer under layer 1.
Think of it like they were those transparent plastic sheets you use for overhead projectors. Every "layer" is simply another sheet placed under or over a different one.
Unless you meant how I got the finished version from the frame? In which case I copy/pasted the finished frame and sort of traced and worked over it in another layer.Last edited by Tiffanie Lirle; 2008-06-14 at 05:18 PM.

Re: Notebook Sketches
The second thing, that has to do with the tracing...yeah. Sorry for the confusion.
All I can say really, is be very careful while tracing. Trust me, I speak from a lot of experience, I mean LOTS. I mean lots and lots. Huge, astronomical amounts of experience at screwing up.
I'm not sure I helped any...dammit, this would so much easier if I didn't need to use words, I'm more of a hands on teaching guy.

Re: Notebook Sketches
On that note, do you have any advice for drawing the face, or just the head in general? It seems to be my weakest point overall at the moment, seeing as well.. I don't even know how to draw a face. As you might be able to tell by looking at that picture.

Re: Notebook Sketches
The most basic shape I can suggest is starting off by drawing it like an upside down egg. It's wider at the top and then narrows into the chin, that's the face in a nutshell.
When I draw my more realistic heads I do it in parts, I with an outline of the head. Starting at the brow of all places. I make a single line down to the cheek bone, then another from the cheek bone to jaw, from the jaw to the chin, draw the chin and than the repeat until I get to the brow on the other side. I draw a line from the brow to the bottom of the crown of the head, draw the top of the head and finish of the outline.
For the actual face, thankfully it's fairly symmetrical. I draw two light lines, on horizontal, the other vertical. The vertical one separates the face into to equal (a term used INCREDIBLY loosely) halves. The horizontal line is where you draw the eyes, also which direction the face is...facing, for example up or down would have make the line curve up and down respectively.
Of course this all applies to a face facing forward, drawing a face turned to the side is a similar but fundamentally different task.

Re: Notebook Sketches
If you are referring to the person on the far left, that is actually not a girl, it is Royce and he is sighing in defeat over the rambunctiousness (long word, yay!)
of his two drawing counterparts.

Re: Notebook Sketches
Hello and welcome to Vulion's latest update, brought to you by insomnia. I'll forgo the usual formalities cause this is a big ass update, something along the lines of thirty drawings if I remember correctly in my sleep-deprived state.
We start of with a friend's character from a re-hashed eberron campaign me and my group are playing. The long suffering owner and captain of the airship we use to get around.
Spoiler
My friend's character again, he is an artificer as is hopefully apparent by the fact that he is holding a screwdriver, though knowing our group he's probably brandishing it whilst threatening one of our over characters' genitalia.
Spoiler
Next up is the new muscle of the group, an orc frenzied berserker/butler contracted to do our captain's bidding due to an old contract between generations of family. I kinda view the dichotomy between his class and profession to be bipolar disorder.
Spoiler
The regular muscle of our group, a borderline socipath that nonetheless is deeply loyal to the captain of the ship. Wears full plate under his cloak and is a chronic smoker.
Spoiler
The always eccentric and nearly always drunk pilot of the group, this gnome is known more for getting into and causing bad situations then his doing positive things. A laugh riot to be around.
Spoiler
Finally we come to my character, though there are still characters from the group I haven't drawn. Me guy is an elven conjurer who came on the ship to study the method and practical uses of elemental binding.
Spoiler
Another one of my conjurer, who can be best described as the practical and pragmatic of the group and one of the best negotiators in the group mostly because he is not liable to ramble drunkenly, threaten bodily harm or go crazy at the drop of a hat.
Spoiler
This female earth genasi monk is a character my friend is gonna use in a forgotten realms campaign that were gonna run in a few months. He chose an earth genasi because he liked the eyes for a death glare.
Spoiler
My character for said forgotten realms campaign, a tiefling rogue who is chaotic good. His story is that he was raised by the kind matron of an orphanage, who gave him the love and support to turn him away from his tainted bloods influence.
Spoiler
While my character may be a rogue, he is much more of a Robin Hood type, often given most of the money from his heists to the orphanage he was raised in. I wanna role play him as a guy who loves proving people's first impressions about him wrong.
Spoiler
My other friend's wood elf druid for the FR campaign. He has no idea how he's gonna lay him so I figured I could inspire him to make a druid that is a little on the edge of his sentient mind and his animal instincts.
Spoiler
Celuril, moon elf sword master makes a return. Not much to say here other than that the elf is ambidextrous and often switches sword arms in a fight to throw off his opponents.
Spoiler
This lizard guy is a character from a story idea that my non-DnD playing friend has been developing for years. The partner of his main character that he eventually fuses with to become an avatar of the goddess of order to defeat the embodiment of chaos. At least I think that's whats going on.
Spoiler
Ah Royce, my non-draconic mage. Where does this lone spell caster walk to? Is there a destination? Does he even know what direction he goes? No one knows. Well, I do, but I'm not telling.
Spoiler
This trench coat badass has not received nearly enough attention as she deserves. Madeline makes a come back flying into action with wand in hand. I need to draw her more often.
Spoiler
Now here is a guy you are all familiar with, Ross makes his epic return, though this is not the version that I will be using in the future. I posted the drawing mostly because I like his chain mail, which in comparison to scale mail is cake walk.
Spoiler
THIS is the final (I am making a blood oath here) version of the character, both back story and appearance wise. He is now a monster hunter, though he is not like most ranger types, instead of aloof and mysterious he is affable and open.
Spoiler
This is Ross with his two new weapons, katars! The reason I chose punching daggers cause it feels as if a sword or ax would be weapons for human opponents and most of Ross's enemies are monsters. The punching daggers almost seem like claws to me, meaning that on some level is fighting like a monster would.
Spoiler
While my other two male characters, Royce and Larry have had their stories pretty much set in stone, Ross was always a source of frustration for me, mostly because I wanted an epic back story, but finally I said f*ck it and decided to retcon the bastard into something simpler. My blood pressure has gone down since.
Spoiler
Ross after he just completed a job. Originally I planned his eye patch to hide something that would expose a secret, like ancient dragon heritage or the mark of horrible curse. That curse is now in his bandaged arm and now his eye has gotten the basic "torn apart by monster claws" treatment.
Spoiler
With the change to Ross came the inevitable Eliza, better known as Eli. The pairs interactions were always going to be a key part in the story thats brewing in my head. At first I tried to retain Eli's original hairstyle but I ended up choosing something a bit more...sassy.
Spoiler
This is the new Eli, a witch that lives a swamp at the outskirts of a town working endlessly to improve her magic and to keep four wards that hold an ancient evil sleeping under said swamp safe as he foster mother did before her. I think it's a step up from a former pirate queen that left piracy to open a tavern because her fathers dying wish for her to leave the violent lifestyle behind.
Spoiler
This is the picture is where I decide that Eliza would be sassy. Despite her sass she is a very empathetic person and takes the ridicule, fear and sometimes outright hatred of the local villagers with surprising patience.
Spoiler
Do not believe this innocent face! The liquid she holds in your hands is not a potion that will cure the common cold! It will make you expel EVERYTHING from your body through your butt! EVERYTHING!!
Spoiler
Finally here we have a drawing, of my most prolific male characters chibified. Some of you may have seen this in my earlier photo.

Re: Notebook Sketches
They're all... amazing!
I especially like the "borderline sociopath", the elven conjurer and the tiefling rogue (figures, but I'm being honest here).
And Eli, well, she has... an interesting outfit.
(Not complaining though.)

Very impressive V, You're getting better at drawing females as well.
