So, what are everyone's plans for today?
Mine is to go and grab an order of Sesame Chicken from the Chinese restaurant that take only 5 minutes to walk to.

I don't think I'm doing anything at all today. I might go to the movies, but that doesn't seem to be working out yet. I should probably do my homework, but I hate algebra 2. I wanna do it tomorrow.
Does anyone here like logarithms? Because I'd be happy to give you my homework. >_>"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other."

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
I plan to sit here and listen to Steppenwolfe, Hinder, Black Stone Cherry, Sum 41, etc, etc.
I think that pretty much wraps up my day unless I actually do some homework. I might do my Science Homework, maybe even my D.T homework, I think I'll leave my maths revision for tomorrow. Not sure right now, I'll decide in 30 to 60mins.
Hold on, logarithms might be in my maths book.

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
There are some 15, 16, and 17 year olds in my math class, and I'm taking this course before most people my age. And I'm 14, the only Freshman in the class.
And I still think math is terrifying and my worst subject.
Edit: Wolfbane, that report sounds like a lot. I had to write an essay about how Erik the Viking and The Odyssey compare and contrast, and thought that was too much.Last edited by Em Blackleaf; 2009-02-07 at 02:13 PM.

Hate to homework.... I have that too.
Sadly I'm not that good at maths/algebra, and it's even harder for me translated.

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
There's nothing scary about maths, except that it's everywhere. At my school, there are people who have been pulled out of English Literature classes to do extra maths to help them get a Grade C in maths.
I'm on target for an A* (highest grade possible in british education) in maths.
Then again, I love to learn. Although I have been told that my brain seems to work like a sponge.
But I've never heard of Logorithms, so if you're a year or more younger than me (I'll be 16 in June) and you're doing a subject I've never done, then you must be freaking good at maths.
And now for some music.Last edited by Fredthefighter; 2009-02-07 at 02:15 PM.

Hmm, I think my homework right now consists of printing out a handout, reading the rest of Volataire's Candide, and printing out a random table of statistics from the Bureau of Statistics or something like that. Ah, community college. Such a wonderful place!

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
I think I'm bad at math, because I'm taking an accelerated subject.
But then, I have way too much pride to go down to an easier class.
I find myself perfectly capable of learning the subject, I just need to study more.
We have people taking extra classes (which we call "double blocked"), because they failed a year. But they lose their electives, not their English.
My target grade is an A or a B. I refuse to get a C again.
(A is highest, B is right under it, and C is average, the lowest passing grade that's how grades work in America if you didn't know)."Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other."

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
I thought America had A+ as well.
We aren't allowed to skip ahead at our school, I'm sort of glad for it, because I'm getting to the point know where maths is starting to challenge me.
We have 3 books for it you see and 4 (5 for some) exams.
Book 1: Level 7 (C Grade)
Book 2: Level 8 (B Grade)
Book 3: Level 9 and Level 10 (A Grade and A* Grade)
We have exams for level 7, 8 and 9, as well as a terminal exam (levels 6 to 9), then if the teacher enters you for it, you do the level 10 exam, but the stuff I have to learn for that is being done after school on thursdays.Last edited by Fredthefighter; 2009-02-07 at 02:31 PM.

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
There are sayings here...
D is for Diploma
C is for Certificate
D is considered passing in California, they just don't let you go on to the next class up. C is passing in college.
I take these sayings to heart. I underachieve, it's what I do.

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
Technically, a D is passing, you just can't advance to any further levels in the subject unless you get permission from a department head or the like.
I should know.
You can add a + or - to any american grade, + meaning better than the letter, but not good enough to reach the next grade.
A+ 100
A 95
A- 91
B+ 89
B 85
B- 81
C+ 79
C 75
C- 71
------------ The pass/not pass line
D+ 69
D 65
D- 61
------------ The completely fail, gain no credits line.

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
To get into 6th form at my school you need at least 5 GCSEs grade A to C, then they reccomend you take no more than three A-levels, if you have 8 or more GSCEs grade A to C, they reccomend you take four or five A-levels.
EDIT: Strange, to get a C in Britain you only need 60%, to get a B you need 70%, to get an A you need 80% and to get an A* you need 90%.Last edited by Fredthefighter; 2009-02-07 at 02:37 PM.

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
Fred, I don't pay attention to pluses and minuses, but we do have an A+. My school told me that I should skip a math course, so I said "Sure, as long as you think I'm smart enough."
Wadledo, I don't consider a D personally passing. I hate D's. At my school, if you get a D, you can still progress, but a college won't accept you. Or something."Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other."

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
We have right down to U. The grades are A*, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and U. You only really get a U if you spell your name wrong on the paper and get no answers right though, you have to be seriously bad to get a U.

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
Yep, I don't like Ds either, heck, in most of my lessons even a C is a bit low.
(Most of my predicted grades are Bs, As and A*s) Heck, the only lesson I think I could accept a D in is P.E, partially because I'm not that good at it, but considering we've done swimming (the only sport I'm good at) and boxing (helped by karate training), I think I can get a C grade if I can do as well in basketball.
Yes, to get a U, you basically have to not show up for the exam.Last edited by Fredthefighter; 2009-02-07 at 02:42 PM.

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
I achieve, because I fear screwing up my life, and I like my parents, want what's best for myself. Mostly because I fear failure.
Hey, I learned about the A-U grading system because of Harry Potter."Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other."

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
You anglos and your weird schooling systems.
Over here, we have a non-linear 1,0-10,0 scale grading system that is roughly translated to USA grades as follows:
8,5-10,0 = A+
7,5-8,4 = A
6,5-7,4 = B
5,5-6,4 = C
3,5-5,4 = D (In order to get a Secondary Education Diploma, you can't have too many of these.)
1,0-3,4 = F
--
Using that quick and dirty conversion chart, I can easily tell you the grades on my own Secondary Ed. Diploma:
English: A+
Biology: A
Chemistry: A
Dutch Literature: A
History: A
General Natural Sciences: A
Mathematics (B1+2): A
Sociology (1): 2
Dutch: B
German: B
Physics (1+2): B
Thesis: The Mathematical Nature of the World (Approved)Last edited by InaVegt; 2009-02-07 at 02:55 PM.

Re: The Kiwi's Kinkily Knotted and Kookily Kickass Random Banter #114
I too fear failing.
Predicted Grades
Maths: A*
Core Science: A* (Already achieved)
Additional Science: A*
English language: B (I got an A in the exam)
English Literature: B
History: A*
French: A (But I'd be happy with a B)
Graphic Products (Technical drawing): A
Drama: B
P.E: C (But it's some sort of certificate, not a proper GCSE)
I.T: This subject is worth between 2 GCSEs, I'm predicted to get As, one of which I already have.
As you can see, failure is not an option for me.This avatar pierces the heavens and is by Miss Nobody!SpoilerOriginally Posted by Anuan
