Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
1) I say BS because it is BS. And its an acronym. The first word in the acronym is 'Bull'. =\
2) And this 'chaos' thing you mention is either randomness, or the lack of knowledge of how something works. If it can't explain it, then NOTHING can understand it.
At all.
Without exception.
Or its just too stupid to understand.
3) Butterfly Effect is a redundancy of Chaos Theory, which indicates that things will happen based on pre-existing conditions.
4) Here's your explamation of chaos in words you can understand:

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
My replies to the above are in bold, though they are not exactly meaty.
Skimmer - Seems to be one of the more effective members of the team. Does some real damage and can take it too. More useful against hostiles than in social situations, though.
Falgorn - At least tries to employ a level of intelligence into his strategies, but too often X2 just kinda goes "overruled!" and doesn't let them fly.
Damien - Not much to say, hasn't really done anything of note. Seems loyal, if nothing else.
Anything else?
Not exactly interesting, I'm afraid. Katya's relationships with people are almost directly related to their effectiveness in Fight/Social situations and Strategic skills. Being reliable/trustworthy is a good +1, too.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
A minor change in the starting conditions of a system can have much larger consequences in the outcome. An oft used example is "the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil sets off a tornado in Texas", or some variation thereof.
The term is often also used in relation to time travel, if one were to travel back in time and perform an inconsequential act it could have far reaching consequences. Stepping on an ant could cause a new World War, for example, or prevent you from being born.
Another example is in the historical rhyme, "For Want of a Nail".
"For want of a nail the shoe was lost.Yet another can be seen in the first Erfworld comic.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail."Last edited by Keris; 2009-08-01 at 07:50 AM.

And yet he's still peicing together more intelligent arguments than you. Quaint.
Now, stop the argument before this escalates. One comment here leads to a shout there, one shout there leads to a yelling match, one yelling match leads to a fight, and one fight leads to a ban. All because someone made a comment.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
Cool story bra.
Edit: What I'm saying is that there was no point to you telling us that. If you wanted to leave, you could at any time. Because you felt the need to announce it, you obviously care enough to want to leave an impact on us. If you are influenced enough by a comment on the forums to leave them indefinately, it is probably best you leave before you find someone with a conflicting opinion to you.Last edited by Darklord Bright; 2009-08-01 at 08:01 AM.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
While I frequently research topics at hand, usually it to verify what I have already been taught (the amount of oversimplification that goes on in schools astounds me).
In this case, I already knew what the Butterfly Effect was, but I still looked up the phrasing of the examples.
And besides, if you people bothered to do your own research I wouldn't ever have to look things up for you, would I?
You're leaving? Are you serious? You can't go!
Despite the fact that I hold you in despect, you're still one of the pillars of the ABR community. If you leave, who will random kill newcomers? What unspeakable horror will we reference in tangential comics? You're one of the, if not the, oldest active ABRer. As much as it pains me to admit it, it wouldn't be the same if you left.

Man, there's really been a lot of stress around here lately.
Because there's something wrong with telling the people who have no problems with them where and why they went?

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
I knew it sounded familiar. Well I think it is true with some things but not with time travel (people don't seem to understand that anything done in the past would already have happened when you start the time travel, if you step on an ant it was stepped on by you before you enter the time machine the first time) Alternate realities travel maybe (The TJH team landing in such a place would be fun or if they start it by helping Germany win WW1 or something)
EDIT:
@Crimson: How old do you think I am? You shouldn't tell children not to fight like children.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
Okay, I seriously never thought I'd say this, but I agree with CA. Rand, you started this argument. And now, just because people disagree with you, you're leaving?
In case anybody forgot (which is fairly likely), I left ABR once. I nearly left the forums, all because, ironically, I was mad at the very one I agree with now. I was in an argument, and I lost. I was similarly mad. But people convinced me that I was being childish. Rand, there is no need to go. Come on, you are still significant in ABR. You are one of the first players. Leaving would be extremely depressing. You have felt unwanted? You haven't been. People haven't wanted your AI to participate too much in FI, sure, but they just didn't want FI being unbalanced. Nobody wanted you to leave. It's the same with the arguments with MM or Keveak. Arguments are disputes of opinion. They aren't deadly serious. Rand, don't leave over something so small as an argument about chaos.
To be fair, I thought Keveak sounded a little silly, too, but I didn't bring it up later. Come on, don't go. You will be missed.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
If it had made sense then it would have missed the point entirely, but I don't think I wanted to be taken serious (I called it nonsense at least once) And I can only say two words in Dutch so I don't think that would have helped (I could tell you where I'm from but that annoy people so I won't)

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
It wasn't so much that knowing where you are from that was annoying, but it was when you brought it up so frequently, and in discussions to which nationality was irrelevant. When asked what your nationality is, you should feel free to answer, and it can in fact be more annoying for you to say something like "Oh, I could tell you, but you asked me earlier not to, so I won't".
IIRC, you're Danish.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
True story about time travel, you would merely effect something that has already happened. The seroes Gargoyles did that great credit with a character who gave his past self a pair of magic artifacts that he centuries later uses to travel back in time to give it to his past self. In a big fat paradox loop.
But anyway if you were actually able to alter something that has happened in the past, be it just your mere appearance in that time even for only the blink of an eye going completely unnoticed by any lifeform and without any physical alterations to the surroundings, you'd have changed all of reality with that and therefore everything happening afterwards. I know what I'm saying is different from what the chaos theory is actually claiming.
And Rand if you're really going to play the insulted drama queen and quit here because of that, I'll lose every bit of respect i had for you. And yes I do have some, still.Last edited by Threeshades; 2009-08-01 at 01:45 PM.

I know it was just for fun (not funny I know)
You recall correctly, though being Dutch sounds funnier
Now let's find another topic, or blather about nothing for days... Not that there's a difference around here anyway.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
I don't think that it's exactly fair to blame this on DLB. I sincerely doubt he thought that one comment would make Rand decide to leave. Honestly, the whole argument seemed rather nonsensical to begin with.
That's all I'm going to say about this, because I don't particularly want to feed the fires of Internet drama more than I have to.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XXIV: What is this "Haste" you speak of?
I dont even know what the argument was, I just wanted to put out my own crap about the whole chaos and time altering stuff.
Maybe we should just for each storyline agree on a time-travel system, be it "realistic" or not (since time travel is impossible on every given level)

I can't even remember any real argument (mostly I was just speaking insane nonsense) and Time travel was only mentioned afterwards.
