[Nexus] Good League of Good LVIII: Shaken, but not baked

[The Bushranger]

"Oh, hey, hey," Quinn says, turning back. "You're supposed to know it's a mom's perogitive to defend her child, and also that you were invited to a polite coffee-and-doughnuts while we wait for Toby."

She pauses.

"...I'm worried about him..." she admits.



"Yeah, I think so," Jamie says, nodding. "Yeah, Mom named me after a lot of people who were important for me and dad! ANd yeah, that's my mom. She's Quinn. She's also in charge here and she's the greatest mom ever!"

"Why did you think I wanted you to meet him, Balin?" Nimai sing-songs teasingly.

" Nothing, I just thought that I wasn't going to meet him any time soon. " He says folding his arms in front of him and blushing a bit. Balin also remembers something he did and looks down at the ground seeming a little ashamed.

Also, he's not really a kid. Maybe not considered a man but he his about 16-17.

Tony stops and looks at the paladin incredulously. Defend your daughter? From what? I've never even hurt a child. There's a slightly accusing emphasis on that pronoun... I can't imagine why you should be. I, personally, am more worried for whomever he's after.

"Too true. Oh yes, I have a present for you."

Marley opens a drawer right to his bed, and takes out a bell that releases the smell of catnip when it rings.

"I hope you like it."

" Nothing, I just thought that I wasn't going to meet him any time soon. " He says folding his arms in front of him and blushing a bit. Balin also remembers something he did and looks down at the ground seeming a little ashamed.

Also, he's not really a kid. Maybe not considered a man but he his about 16-17.

"Well, let's go," Nimai says, looking over at Jamie, who seems to have gotten into a little bit of trouble? Maybe she'd like to sneak off with them.

"Oh? Better than my mom even?"

Kris considered the nature of her mom for a few moments.

"...Maaaybe, but I'll have to get to know her first. I'm gonna be working here after all, y'know."

[Murkus]

"I see." Praetorious looks closely at her eyes and hair for a moment. "Is there a specific reason you're here? At GLoG, I mean?"

"I can't be sure that won't change," Quinn says, but shrugs. "But anyway. It's just...he keeps running off to fight things. And I keep having to bring him back from the dead," she finishes, looking down and closing her eyes wearily.

"I see." Praetorious looks closely at her eyes and hair for a moment. "Is there a specific reason you're here? At GLoG, I mean?"

Well, kinda ended up here in the Nexus, and I heard from a few people that this place was, well, good. And, I wanna help people. So, here I am.

The cleric sighs and slowly approaches Quinn. Surely you didn't think he'd ever want to settle down?

Balin nods and then gestures for her to go ahead. " Lead on then. "

"Well, no. But it's just...I wish he wouldn't take so many risks. And be so willing to use killing himself as a weapon, instead of the last of last resorts," Quinn says, sighing.

"Well, I dunno. I don't know your mom," Jamie says matter-of-factly. "But, you'll be working here? Cool! What do you do?"

Oh, I'm sure that by now he's moved on to a new clever trick. Tony waves a hand and smiles bitterly. Perhaps you should just let him stay dead for a while, if it happens again. I'm sure the place he'd be waiting would be... less than comfortable.

Well, kinda ended up here in the Nexus, and I heard from a few people that this place was, well, good. And, I wanna help people. So, here I am.

"So many of us simply 'ended up here'." Praetorious ponders the fact, glancing at his book. "The Nexus seems to have that quality."

"I fell here." He says simply, thinking back on it.

"Too true. Oh yes, I have a present for you."

Oh dear, catnip. Butler has a mild reaction to what Kris might have if she caught wiff of it. Granted, unlike Kris, Butler actually wears a collar with bells on it.

"A bell sir! It's great sir!"
Butler happily goes to take the bell and look it over, giving it a little ring, before reaching up to attach the bell to it. Now he has three!

"No." Quinn shakes her head. "I could never do that..." She sighs. "I love him too much to ever do anything like that to him."

"So many of us simply 'ended up here'." Praetorious ponders the fact, glancing at his book. "The Nexus seems to have that quality."

You fell? Sounds like that'd hurt.

"I might have to have a talk with your mom about that."

Kris giggles in spite of herself, putting her hands behind her back and sauntering a little, now curious about this Jamie girl.

"What about you? What is it that YOU do?"

"Well, I mostly learn stuff. But I also fight evil with my friends!" she says proudly.

Of course. Tony hesitates, then goes ahead and speaks his damn mind. Don't you think that he's being terribly inconsiderate of your feelings, killing himself so when he knows it hurts you as well?

"For some of it." Praetorious gets a far-off look in his eyes, a dreamy memory floating before his eyes. "I jumped off the Tower, and fell through the void, and it was like that for some time."

He glances at Krystal again. "Then there was a white-hot flame, and a horrid burning, and I was falling through the sky. And then I was here."

Nimai grabs him by the hand and leads him to the cabin her parents had claimed on the GLoG grounds.

Inside, it's pretty rustic looking - comfortable enough, but not many frills or luxuries. Probably not all that far from Balin's life growing up. Across from the main door, there's another door, this one seeming like it should lead back out of the cabin.

Mara is following them quietly, casting another look back at Jamie.

Krystal winces a little.

Ouch. I was just walking down a road, trying to find a way to upstate New York.

Jamie, spotting Mara looking back, waves through the window at her.
A 'come join us, if you want!' kind of wave.

Then shrugs.
"Well, maybe, but he's doing what he has to do, I guess..." she says, weakly.

"New-York." He says it as though a child would, albeit a child with a very deep voice. "I believe I've been there. Perhaps the Nexus snatches people of interest, drawing them towards some sort of calling." He shrugs. "I don't know. It figures that I'd jump off the remnants of a dead multiverse and end up in the center of this one. But I don't know what upstate New-York has to do with the Nexus."

He deadtimes, unfortunately.

He looks around getting a little feeling of homesick.

Krystal shrugs. I have no idea. Didn't know half of this stuff existed till I got here. Still don't understand most of it.

Kris chuckles at her, sticking her own tongue out in the same level of maturity.

"I prefer the fighting evil bit myself. I tried learning stuff at a temple once for a few years. I learned that I was a lot better at beating up evil dudes."

Then shrugs.
"Well, maybe, but he's doing what he has to do, I guess..." she says, weakly.

Tony hesitates again, then tries to reassure her. More than likely, they were just emergencies. Acting quickly to save others.
