Great chart! I do find the <another roll of 3> a bit confusing though...
Although I guess hand-made monster stats are better, you could make a random monster-ability chart for those too lazy :P

Re: Greatest Random Encounter Chart Ever
Some one got a Lovecraftian Anti-Lovecraftian Monk (somehow). I'm here to prove it can be done.
Column 1: Pseudonatural template.
Column 2: Horror Hunter Prestige Class!
Column 3: Duh.
Horror Hunter
Spoiler"Here comes Azathoth, here comes Azathoth, right down Azathoth lane..."
Sometimes, the horrors that lurk beyond the minds of even the most knowledgeable of sages are known to great heroes. Great unsung heroes, but they are heroes none the less. Sometimes the heroes collapse in on themselves, becoming husks of gibbering madness. Sometimes they just die, and in death suffer horrors thousands of times worse than if an Arch-Fiend got its unfettered paws on their soul. And sometimes, sometimes... they win. Sometimes, they win twice. And maybe, just maybe, somewhere out there, some glorious soul makes a living off of hunting these monstrosities.
Becoming A Horror Hunter
Horror Hunters are incredibly rare. After all, their prey is as elusive as it gets.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Base Attack Bonus: +5
Skills: Knowledge (The Planes) 8, Survival 4, Gather Information 8, Decipher Script 8
Saves: Will Save +6
Feats: Iron Will, Track
Special: Must have faced a horror from the Far Planes and survived, and must have read a text detailing the horrors of the Far Planes in some manner.
Class Skills
The Horror Hunter's class skills are: Balance, Bluff, Climb, Craft (any), Decipher Script, Diplomacy, Disable Device, Disguise, Escape Artist, Forgery, Gather Information, Intimidate, Knowledge (Arcana, Architecture and Engineering, Dungeoneering, Geography, History, Religion, The Planes), Listen, Open Lock, Ride, Search, Sense Motive, Sleight of Hand, Speak Language, Spellcraft, Spot, Survival, Use Magic Device, Use Rope
Skills Points at Each Level: 8 + int
Hit Dice: d6
{table=head]Level|Base Attack Bonus|Fort Save|Ref Save|Will Save|Special
1st|+0|+2|+0|+2| Mind Like A Vice
2nd|+1|+3|+0|+3| Play By Our Rules
3rd|+2|+3|+1|+3| I Cannot Destroy You, But
4th|+3|+4|+1|+4| Gibbering Begone
5th|+3|+4|+1|+4| Begone From This Place
[/table]
Weapon Proficiencies:
A Horror Hunter gains no new armour or weapon proficiencies.
Mind Like A Vice
The Horror Hunter cannot hunt his quarry without being observative and intelligent enough to predict the most unpredictable actions. The Horror Hunter may roll two dice when ever asked for a spot, search, or decipher script check and take the higher. Additionally, he may 'take ten' on will saves a number of times per day equal to his wisdom modifier. This is an extraordinary ability.
Play By Our Rules
Any aberration of outsider from the Far Planes within 15' of the Horror Hunter cannot use any Spell Like Abilities unless it has gotten them from class levels (a warlock, for example). Any insight or profane bonuses are lost. This is a Supernatural ability that can be suppressed as a free action.
I Cannot Destroy You, But
If the Horror Hunter attacks or casts a spell that is reduced by damage reduction, resistances, or immunities, the target takes subdual damage equal to that which was blocked. If it is immune to subdual damage, it must instead make a will save (DC = damage that would have been dealt + any damage that was dealt by the Horror Hunter in the same attack) or be banished back to its native plane. Additionally, a Horror Hunter gains a +5 bonus to spell penetration rolls. These two abilities only works against outsiders from the Far Planes, and is a supernatural ability. This ability applies to any equipment the Horror Hunter is using - if it steers a boat into a giant horror's head, for example, or if it throws an alchemist's fire at a horror immune to fire.
Gibbering Begone
The Horror Hunter is immune to wisdom drain and wisdom damage. Additionally, any other statistic damage or drain against him is halved (round up). Lastly, he also grants this ability to any allies who are not an outsider from the Far Planes or an aberration within 5' * cha mod (if he has a cha of 0, he does not exude this aura).
Begone From This Place
Any aberration or outsider from the Far Planes within 5 * cha mod (min 5) of the Horror Hunter loses access to all of its supernatural qualities. Additionally, if it was an outsider from the Far Planes, the Horror Hunter gains a free attempt to banish it.

Re: Greatest Random Encounter Chart Ever
Poorly Drawn
This template can be applied to any corporeal creature except an ooze.
Miss chance: Any attack against this creature has a 20% miss chance for hitting some color outside the lines instead of the creature itself. This stacks with cover, but not blur or similar spells.
Jaunt: 3/day, the creature may teleport up to 15 feet as a free action. This is not actual teleportation, but revealing to have been in the other place all along with bad perspective.
Not discernible: the creature has no discernible anatomy (or discernible anything else) and is therefore immune to critical hits and precision damage.

Re: Greatest Random Encounter Chart Ever
You are missing a 122 and 225 from the first column.
You have two 256s, and 257s in column two.
and you have two 11s in the third column.
also (having received permission via PM):
My monster generator will now generate random monster names using this table.
It will not retain the name if you use 'Generate Monster', however. I will alter that later.Last edited by Reinboom; 2009-02-21 at 07:51 AM.

Oh gosh darn it. I did all the organizational work by hand and I appear to have screwed up some how.
Well, time to fix it. (Obviously 2 from C1 fell into C2 somehow, now I get to go back and figure out which ones. And then start a long string of deleting and retyping numbers. )

Re: Greatest Random Encounter Chart Ever
I would recommend viewing the lists in a program that produces the row numbers itself. Which is how I noticed (the program I code in).
Notepad++ for example.
Oh, not to mention, regular expression replacement (which would let you quickly delete all numbers).Last edited by Reinboom; 2009-02-21 at 08:10 AM.

Re: Greatest Random Encounter Chart Ever
Notepad does do it, I just don't pay attention. Kind of preoccupied, you know?
Anyways, found them. Schrodinger's. Just doesn't work in the second column (an adjective before it makes it seem awkward and cumbersome, for the most part. There are always exceptions). The other is Precariously Effeminate, I think, but I am looking at the list harder until I'm sure...
EDIT:: Yep, looks like. It's what I'm doing to my master copy, shortly followed by a that-copy.
EDIT2:: To be clear, I'm not upgrading for senseless stubborn fear of change. Next time I want to work on this list (ie, expand it to 400. I know I will some day, it's just a few months / years off) I'll probably look into it.

Re: Greatest Random Encounter Chart Ever
Another useful template, I think:
Imaginary
SpoilerImaginary creatures can be anything to anything. They are testaments to the strength of belief. Feeding off of perceptions, they can quickly overwhelm a party that should have easily bested it. Likewise, a knowledgeable person with no actual chance of defeating its real-world reflection could destroy legions of them.
It is for this reason that they are relatively rare, and often avoid others of their own kind.
Size and Type
The base creature's size and type are not changed, except if the template was applied to an animal. It then becomes a Magical Beast.
Hit Dice
Do not change. For the most part.
Special Qualities
Figment of Your Imagination (Su) :
The imaginary creature is based heavily off of perceptions of it. All of the following abilities only work when consciously observed by sentient creatures. Whenever it exceeds the DC of any given check by 5 or more (or the DC of an ability exceeds the target's saving throw by 5 or more points), it gains a permanent +2 bonus to the check in question. This bonus is cumulative.
Whenever one of its defenses repel an attack (an opponent missing its AC by 5 or more points, a spell penetration failing to beat spell resistance or damage resistance by 5 or more points, etc.) it gains a +2 bonus to that quality. Whenever damage reduction completely negates an attack, that damage reduction increases by 2 points. Whenever fast healing or regeneration return it to maximum hit points, the respective trait increases by 1 point.
Whenever it deals 10% or more of a target's health in a single blow, it gains a +1 bonus to that form of damage. Multiple percentages stack, so dealing 30% of a creature's hit points in one blow equals a +3 bonus to damage. Unlike the other forms, this only applies if the target had at least 3/4 the HD of the imaginary creature.
Whenever an imaginary creature dispatches a seemingly powerful foe (such as the biggest ogre in the tribe or the party's powerful sorcerer, it gains a hit dice.
Likewise, the opposite applies. Failing a check by 5 or more points results in a permanent -2 penalty. Having damage reduction, resistances, or spell resistance overcome by 5 or more points results in it diminishing by 2 points (minimum 1). A creature making a saving throw by 5 or more points results in a permanent -2 penalty to the DC of the ability. Dealing an insufficient amount of damage to overcome damage reduction or that removes less than 5% of the target's health results in a -2 penalty to damage. An attack roll exceeding its armour class by 5 points or more reduces it by 2, and taking an obvious blow or setback (like the fighter punching out its teeth right before it bites his head off) causes it to lose a hit dice. So on and so forth.
These changes are permanent and can only be reversed by having the opposite happen. Not even a wish can restore a badly beaten imaginary creature to its former glory.
Unbelievable (Su) :
A successful knowledge (Arcana) check (DC 5 + HD) will reveal it for what it is - an imaginary creature. After this, you can inform any one who cares to listen (though that may take some convincing). Any one can make a wisdom check to disbelieve the creature (DC 10 + 1/2 of the imaginary creature's HD). If successful, the imaginary creature takes 1d4 points of constitution damage per point of charisma modifier (minimum 1d4). If the creature does not have a constitution score it instead takes 1 point of damage per hit dice both the target and the unbeliever has (added together). This point of damage can only be healed at the rate of 1 per day or relevant spells of sixth level or higher (harm for undead, for example, or creation spells for constructs).
Other things can be affected too, assuming it does something suitably impressive or mockable. Be it the speed from chasing down the PC to the flight's maneuverability category to the creature's size rating, imaginary creatures rely heavily on the power of perception to fuel their agendas.
CR: Base creature +3, +6 if capable of casting illusion spells

Oh, well. Uh. Crazy.
So I found a program - nBos - and made my GRECE automated with that. If any one else has it (or gets it) let me know and I can send you the file. Alternately, I could copy paste the code for it in a spoiler and you just open notepad, paste, and rename the .txt to a .ipt.
Some highlights included "Subepic Inadequate-Feeling Elder Evil", "Promiscuous Revolutionary Snotlings", "Gothic Theatrical Latrine Bacteria", "Headbanging Sado-masochist themed Babysitter", "Heavily Armed War Sammiches", "Tofu-Flavoured Golem Composed of Tiny Little Successful Suicide Attempts", "Schrodinger's Crossdresser", "Tea-Sipping Shotgun Renaissance Artist", and more!
Man, I love this thing.
