Re: Civ 5 GMR 16 Reject Earth Edition
Spoiler: Polynesia99% sure we're in Asia and you're literally as far from an ocean as it's possible to get on planet Earth, ironically. Either that or somewhere around Moscow. I appear to have spawned in Siberia and actually settled somewhere at the corner of there, Mongolia, and Manchuria. Funny that the sprawling cultural empire and the tiny mercantile power are sitting in the historical territory of angry, angry steppe raiders.Spoiler

Re: Civ 5 GMR 16 Reject Earth Edition
Spoiler: Sunday spectator update extravaganza
With William's return we celebrate by taking money from one of nearby minor nations.
As our archer squads train to excel in hilly areas.
As they show their skills by fighting the savages.
As our settler convoy moves with the archers under their watchful eye.
Other troops keep watch for the savages.
As we open up trade with one of the minor nations, to further increase our coffers.
Here we see what William wills for us to research as well as what we already have.
And the glorious city of Amsterdam.
Here we see the policies.
Here we see that we are best in soldiers and approval.
Delicious, delicious Chieftain difficulty.

Well, I think that I'll be away (travelling for most of the next two weeks). I figure that I better set myself to "vacation mode" and mode that the AI doesn't do anything ridiculous (like sparing the life of the barbarian I've been bombarding).

Re: Civ 5 GMR 16 Reject Earth Edition
Spoiler: Sunday spectator update extravaganza
The citizens demand that William procure them this sugar. This thing we don't even have a concept for. An impossible goal, for an impossibly talented man.
Rotterdam, soon to be Petra isle's defense force has no issues.
Amsterdam's defense force reports no savages.
Here we see our technological progression that William has declared.
Maps of Amsterdam show it working on a settler band.
As Rotterdam constructs a granary.
Our goverment has not changed much in recent years.
Our sages tell us, our army is the biggest in the world!

Re: Civ 5 GMR 16 Reject Earth Edition
Alright I keep forgetting to do this and this is a couple turns out of date, but it's the turn when interesting stuff happened, so...
Spoiler: Saturday Spectator Spectacular
"I say, you lot have learned to count again. Jolly good, wot, how many arrows've we got in the old armory?"
The good news was that the displaced Discworlders had rediscovered the magic of numbers and re-entered the Classicial era.
The bad news was that the nobility of Ankh had reasserted their authority. Fortunately, with only simple bows and clubs available for weapons, they mainly concentrated on hunting the copious deer in the nearby forests, rather than waging jolly old war.
They even created a shrine to Herne the Hunted, although they were rather confused about the gender of the deity in this new world. Still, it's the Century of the Fruitbat or something similar, it's none of their business how gods of small fuzzy animals wish to identify1
Trade was the lifeblood of Ankh-Morpork, in the same way that other peoples' blood was the lifeblood of vampires.
"Oy, what are we supposed to do with all this nightsoil we're cartin' away from nob hill?" asked a Morporkian.
"Just throw it in a pile," another said. "ol' Harry says it'll be useful if you stack it up right."2
The rich and plentiful land of what turns out to be Asia. These were Ankh-Morpork's neighbors, including the independent city of Mogadishu on the nearby coastline.
"Can someone invent a telescope or something to trade to the bloody barbarians in exchange for all their land? And while you're at it, invent ships."3
Demographics. First in Population and Manufacturing, a respectably close second and third in GNP and crop yield considering my location. My trade routes are probably what are putting Japan as #1 in GNP too. Last in land (that'll be a constant) and Literacy (because I haven't quite gotten around to inventing writing yet thanks to beelining for a wonder and now for expansion.)
1Three Camp resources in the area, including the Ivory. As the Book of Squeaks says, "There may be good eating on a tortoise, but there's a lot more good eating on an elephant. Or it will when Morporkians learn to write.
2Needless to say, the Hanging Gardens are a high-risk, high-reward Wonder. Look at all that Food! It's usually highly competitive, but in this game the only Civs likely to beeline Mathematics as their Classical opener are ones that favor a wide game and therefore Liberty. We'll see if they went with that strategy. I'm #1 in Manufacturing, and all in one city, so hopefully I can bust this out ASAP.
3When Venice discovers Optics, they get a free Merchant of Venice. I'll demonstrate what those do later.
Also I'll put the turn timer back to a day when it gets to be my turn again.Last edited by Nerd-o-rama; 2016-07-09 at 11:26 AM.

Re: Civ 5 GMR 16 Reject Earth Edition
As mentioned in the GMR 14 thread, my old PC's finally given up the ghost and it looks like it might be a while before I get a suitable replacement. As such, I should probably drop out so as not to drag everything to a standstill.
If there's anyone following the thread who isn't playing and fancies taking up the reigns, now would probably be a good time to ask for an invite link.

Re: Civ 5 GMR 16 Reject Earth Edition
Spoiler: Spectator bonus update
Our spearmen squads, train to fight in open terrain to rush down their foes before them.
Our archers try to take out a camp of savages preventing our settling band from moving forward.
Rotterdam's defense force reports no problems.
As does Amsterdam's.
Our work band starts to move to Rotterdam on orders of The great William to improve the marble outside the city.
The other work band goes to gain us a supply of furs.
One day our settling band will settle like William wants us too... One day.
Here we see what technologies glorious William orders our scientists to study.
Maps of Amsterdam circle among the populace.
Rotterdam working on a shrine to the god of plantations.
William was recently crowned king of all the dutch. Long may he reign and keep us safe from the savages.
The sages tell us we have the most GNP and the biggest army of all.

Spoiler: Spectators
If I had any guess right now. Autocracy domination purchasing.
I'm not set on this right now however.
My biggest issues right now are how slow my settlements are, and that most of my resources are calendar luxuries.
