Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
Technically, they are eyes (at least in the Go terminology I learned), which is why white doesn't capture.
Also--and let me add a disclaimer here that I'm really, really terrible at Go--the black cluster doesn't make any sense to me from a gameplay position. The empty spots between the pieces are your territory not your actual stones, and you shouldn't need that many black pieces to secure that territory. Consequently, I automatically assumed the pieces were organized in that matter specifically to match the metaphor.Last edited by bobothegoat; 2009-05-07 at 02:55 AM.

Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
How about something a bit more unique, like a half-dragon Tarrasque with a Shadow-template added to it?
In my personal opinion, it'd be best if MitD was a creature unique to Rich's world, but the downside to that is that we, the readers would be completely at a loss to understand any significance about that unless it was already introduced to us.
That said, I doubt it's a Black Dragon too :p

Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
You guys know that you can simply paste a comic into any image editor, increase the gamma and reveal the creature, right? Well, no you can't. I'm sure it won't stop someone from trying thought.

Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
No tarrasque, I guess. More Son of Godzilla.
Godzilla is totally indestructable, very strong... and Rich said we would "recogonise" the monster when it finally gets revealed... thing is: He knows not his entire audience is made out of D&D players - so those would recognise the tarrasque but all others would not.
If I had to decide between Godzilla (offspring) and a small version of the tarrasque, I'd go for the thing that's better known in popular culture.
If that's true, I simply want to see Godzillas laser-roar on the Monster from the Darkness!

Oh great, then OOTS would have to track down Dr Doolittle to help them find the Great Lunar Mothra to battle Codzilla in what is left of the Japanese influenced Azure City.

The Go Game
Nitpick: This is correct when counting according to the japanese rules (which are far more popular), but not for the chinese rules (they count own stones + captured stones + territory). Still it's bad tactics to fill *that* much of your territory with stones - so many wasted moves.
Of course, since Azure City looks like a ripoff from Japan, one could assume that they play by japanese rules.
Also, apart from that big black blob, the MitD doesn't play that bad. Some of the white groups are actually dead (just look at the upper left corner), and black has a good position to secure a nice chunk of the open area - or start some serious invasions in white's territory. And it seems as if both played pretty defensive (lots of straight lines, and very little signs of captured stones).
(To be taken with a grain of salt, I'm not a master player either.)Spoiler

Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
While the idea of a tool using* highly intelligent** speaking baby Tarrasque has been a favourite idea for years (for hey, it is fun!), it does require ripping practically the whole Tarrasque description apart, rewriting it from scratch, straightening out the Tarrasque's skeleton to an upright bipedal posture, and putting a Tarrasque inside sticker on the result before applying a shrink ray.
(Or perhaps rather a pygmy-Tarrasque sticker - the MitD seems way too small to be the baby of a Tarrasque if I'm thinking in terms of proportion of babies to adults amongst the larger creature types on Earth, though, given the rarity of such creatures (there being exactly one Tarrasque in most settings arguing for asexual reproduction or divine providence), this is mere supposition on my point)
I would much rather see (if ever shown) a creature of a type that does live up to the performance of the MitD without having to have its own creature-type be extensively rewritten to fit the observe size, shape, and form, and abilities. :)
* Flashlight, umbrella, &etc
** Compared to animal intelligence, MitD is highly intelligent.

Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
I think that the Giant's plan has been to have the MitD be somehow related to the Snarl, but he has said in the foreword in one of his books (can't remember which, one of the non-prequels) that sometimes he gets annoyed when people guess what will happen in the forum and then deliberately changes it.

Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
could it possibly be an inevitable
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/i...e.htm#kolyarut
now hear me out, first the hunters in SoD could know what it is, as inevitables are the stuff of legends.
it could also be a variety that can't usually speak
it could have been in the process of being built which would account for it having a low inteligence score and needing to eat A LOT to power itself.
being made of metal it cant taste
these things are freaking beefy, especially scaled to level
or perhaps a baby nightshade

Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
SpoilerWell there seem to be those that think Godzilla would fit, and they are not quite far off. The tarrasque idea sort of falls apart for 2 reasons. Actibity cycle, and how long MITD has been awake, as well MITD was found in a jungle. Tarrasques eat EVERYTHING with a life force. Plants, animals, etc = omnivore. There should not have been a jungle should "dad" have been around.
That brings to Godzilla, and what is similar, well D&D has just the thing called a Gargantua of several varieties, including but not limited to reptilian.
*100'-200' tall seems like big is a good term for papa.
*Cannot speak is a part of the reptile gargantua description, so one that could talk would be surprising.
The only ral flaws I found in a gargantua are immature they are still 20' tall, and they are overly protective of their young and have a mental bond with them.

O'Chul is the white stones, the eyes are the two empty spaces in all the black stones. You would need to turn the panel upside-down to see it from mitd's perspective to know what O'Chul is trying to tell him.

Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
Apologies for this slightly off-topic bit, but the mangaka for Naruto said similar, and I was always curious why a comic artist or story writer of any kind would be worried about it. I would be thrilled to know I set something up so well, you get all excited and know what to expect. Is this in the FAQ here and I missed it, or an FAQ in one of the books?
I just recall reading something here that any predictions belong in spoiler tags. Is that the part you mean?

Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
Easy.
Also, turn the picture upside down and focus only on the black pieces.
Its a giant bi-pedalhumanoid cockroach.
Which would also give a good explenation to why the cockroaches stick with the MitD and only with him.

Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
my theory is that mitd is the mortal form of the snarl. The snarl needed a way to stay posted on the material plane and thus broke a piece of its self off and it became life and when the snarl is freed mitd will become it. well there's my 2 cents

Re: I have seen the MitD revealed in all his glory!
I like the idea of the MitD being some kind of animal with Divine Ranks, like the avatar of some deity or such. Probably with lost or confused memories.
