Seriously, though, the Third Caste exists for a reason. It's why the evil PTA is more concerned about Szark being gay then they are about Szark having sadistically killed people in duels for years. If you're Third Caste, you can go to Aberxhast to gain legally-and-morally-binding absolution.

Oddly enough, Dex should be Second Caste. Thus, this crime would have never been documented: The police force, upon arresting Dex, would have noticed he felt bad about his abuse and let him off after a brief jail sentence, under the "Right to Tragic Past" Act of 1974.

Which kinda makes it weird this stripper abuse thing didn't. I suppose the former could have come public and the newspaper didn't actually do that much digging...

Mainly I'm intrigued because the more and more I go through the archives, the more convinced I am that Mookie really does plan this, and all the "retcons" are simply atrociously poor execution.

I also share your conviction, though in this case I'm beginning to suspect that Mookie is bankrupt for ideas, and has been trawling his own Archives for "new" plots.

I wasn't even going to post today, but after seeing that I had to say something. I mean, seriously, Rachel would be a violent criminal if she wasn't second caste. It's stuff like this that makes Dex the sole "not all jocks are bad" counterexample in the strip.

Also, I liked the whole subtle-for-Mookie jab at people who like sports. The people of Lynn's Brook are idiots, so of course they treated a sports team like gods. Brilliant.

I think you can learn a lot from that actually, since he went through three haircuts in that strip. Sem-short and shaggy = drug addiction. Long and greasy = lots of yelling. Completely short = wife beating. And then 'The Dominus' (which seems to be DD's version of 'The Rachel') which means ... er.. what does it mean, actually? Given that every single character seems to have it I guess it means 'is a person'.

As for today's strip, I have to ignore the last panel for the sake of me not trying to remove my own head. But once again I really can't help psychoanalysing Mr Mookie just a little bit for his unique stance on women's chests. First we're told they're the devil's work and will only lead to a slow painful back-achy death, but then we keep getting them shoved in our faces, including on this Rachel character (who I rather thought was Mookie's exemplar of a stand-up independent woman) and on his Keepers Of The One True Drink, the Halflings. And now with Rachel's looming derailment it feels like Mookie has once again gone all catholic on us so we're back to 'the road to hell is paved with boobs and sex'.
