Re: Are we nerds?
65% Nerd, 69% Geek, 8% Dork. Sounds about right. Modern, Cool Nerd.
However the picture they show does not look anything like what I would expect for a 'cool nerd'! I would expect that guy to snort a little bit when laughing.
Also, you and your friends are most definitely dorks/nerds/gamers/geeks. Although you can pick which term you really like best, one of em applies. Sorry.

Re: Are we nerds?
I think there is a small problem here- What is a nerd? what is a geek? What is a dork? I'm sure many people means many definitions. Mine come up as follows:
Geek: Someone who is "tech savvy" or who games or something of that nature, or is simply quite intelligent. These people tend to be slightly non social (not actually anti social) and gravitate to the internet for thoughtful discusions. Could be socially active with effort. Can include off-beat social dynamos (I have known several)
Nerd: Someone who is of well above average intelligence, but does not grasp some social concepts, such as the art of conversation (a gift some people simply do not have) or talking to members of the opposite sex (for most people I assume, these are two very different things). The stereotypical gamer would be a caricature of this group.
Dork: Someone who is not set apart from the pack except for a few strange mannerisms or foibles that end up separating them from the group. Socially awkward, these dorks either become nerds, or sometimes geeks, or become of another social clique. Very few people remain dorks into adulthood, as it's something of a "nothing special" category, and most people tend to find one defining facet of themselves or another by twenty (in my experience).
That said, under my definition, I would think most of us are nerds. And that isn't a bad thing.Townies

Re: Are we nerds?
I have just one question. What does everyone mean by "slightly socially inept" or "socially awkward?"
Someone who's shy and afraid to meet new people? Someone who simply doesn't feel the need to be around people? Someone who likes interacting with lots of people but usually says/does something that makes everyone pissed off at him/her? Someone who can usually get along great with people but prefers a small group of friends instead of a large circle of acquaintances?
There's just too many possible ways to be socially awkward/inept/unsocial.

Re: Are we nerds?
I scored 65 % Nerd, 13% Geek, 60% Dork, The classic, 80's nerd, apparently. Honestly I don't like to think of my self as that much of a dork, but yeah, I suppose I am somewhat socially inept.

Re: Are we nerds?
By my definitions:
Nerd: dnd, gaming, overall smart.
Geek: computers, technology, often socially challenged.
Dork: Socially challenged but not necessarily smart.
I, personally, am a nerd with some geek. And I definitely don't think that's a bad thing.

Re: Are we nerds?
I know exactly what you mean. It really bugs me when I go out of my way to take a good solid test like this, and I end up getting back a result that I suspect might not be completely unbiased. Do these people care nothing for science?!
Seriously though, its rubbish and I worry that you expect a little too much from it. You may as well bemoan celebrity gossip magazines for not telling you enough about the current political climate in the Middle East.

Re: Are we nerds?
91% Nerd, 43% Geek, 60% Dork.
Oh, god, help me .
Apparently I am a classic 80's nerd. Go me.
Really, I expected the nerd bit, but not the dork bit. Honestly, I always thought I was better socially than that. I just have trouble remembering names, that's all. I just don't 'get' mainstream society, especially in a group of 15-year-old girls and no boys (i.e, my year level). Ah, well. Dorky nerds with a fair amount of geek are better than ditzy chicks with no knowledge at all.
Without the test, I would have considered myself a nerd. Nerd all the way. With a little geek. For Serpentine's description, nerds know something about everything and geeks know everything about something, so true. I am frequently amazed at the random crap I have concealed within my brain. Including what I remember about books I've read. I can quote most of the books I've read recently (i.e, within the last 5 years) with 90% accuracy, excluding fiddling to make it more context-appropriate/easier to understand without having read the book.
Just the amout I am analysing this should give people a fair indication of how nerdy I am.Just remember - yelling "Who wrote this ****?!" at the top of your lungs is a normal and accepted part of the editing process.
The wizard who reads a thousand books is powerful. The wizard who memorises a thousand book is insane.

Re: Are we nerds?
I think the fact that we are willing and able to intelligently discuss this sort of thing will label us all as "nerds". But so what?
Personally, I am a 6ft tall 270-ish pound man who can crush the bones of many "jocks". So I never had a problem with labels, except for those that pre-designate me as stupid because of my size.
Labels are useless in my opinion.

Re: Are we nerds?
47 % Nerd, 39% Geek, 8% Dork. Apparently I'm a joe normal, even though I hang out mostly with geeks and nerds (Primarily geeks, by their definition) and I read political theory for fun. I suppose I am fairly well adjusted and able to function in society.

Re: Are we nerds?
MythAdvocate: In a similar vein, being skinny and dressing like a punk, I never got made out to be a nerd, but I did get labeled as anorexic, which was the only label that bothered me. That's not important, though; I told you that story so I could tell you this one:

Re: Are we nerds?
aw cmon Dragonrider... wouldn't you say they're good for a laugh, if nothing else?
Im a Dork, through and through to the ends of the earth - but I dont really think that requires social ineptitude, since I seem to get along atleast average as far as sociality goes. Not great, but atleast well enough the when i accidentally hit people with chains (accident, I swear) people forgive me. Eventually.
I'd also have to consider myself fairly intelligent, humility aside. I dont, however, do much gaming, tabletop or computer, or know much about maths (like thats going to be important in my career choices >.>).
Yep. For me, dorkiness is where its at.
(I'd consider the real difference between Nerd and Geek to be quite simple. Nerds wear glasses.)
