Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
Z v Z now revolves around mutas because infestors are now really bad against them. Basically its fast expand into ling bling wars at someone's third base unless someone does an all in before mutas are out.
In z v p you do the standard 3 bases vs FFE. Most protoss usually do either a stargate opening and then a fast tech up to collosus while trying to take a 3rd base. They are trying to get a super army of void ray and any type of splash so you have to kill them before they get that.
In z v t you go up against a lot of drops and widow mines along with Bio. In order to beat the MMMM you need to go ling bling muta do defend against drops while trying to take an aggressive 3rd and 4th. You really need ultras against so expect a timing attack to come before hive is done.
That is what i have been doing and going up against on ladder.

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
you really need spines to buy time against the attacks. also when you get attack you need to immediately go back and defend or risk losing. Also since all you can make are lings and baneling I would get a macro hatch in order to spend everything. I hope this helps.

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
There's a base location to the right of your spawn. Rush to get that and connect it with creep. Do the same thing you do with the 3rd mission and mass queens from the 2 hatches at each mineral line and the macro hatch you put down. Keep half of the lings you make near you base in case of counter attacks. To prevent any eggs from being gathered, go to the left of the first infested terran command center and build a wall of spines, leaving 1 egg there because she will always go a certain path depending on which eggs are still available, and will always go for that egg first, so you can control where she goes. After you build a reasonable amount of queens, start pushing forward with the creep and the spine to where the second infested command center is and take it out.
Make sure you spam kerrigans abilities and lead in with queens to tank while having the lings come from an indirect angle to surround. Best timing to push for main base is wait for zagara to leave, kill her just outside her base, then shove in.
Hope this helps.

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
ironically enough i was able to get it by just plain bumrushing the last few eggs Kerigan needed from my latest save file, using some zerglings to distract the enemy troops rather then playing hit-and run with Kerrigan

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
yeah, i aimed for as many normal achivements as i could on my first run, then grabbed the stragglers via the archives, such as the one where i can't allow the broodmother to gather a single egg. The fact that the game allowed me to have double drones and swarmlings when i played from the archives only made this task easier.
Right now i'm only aiming for getting kerrigan to level 70, meaning i need to ensure i don't miss a single optional mission. hard-difficulty achivements can be done later.Avy by Thormag

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
On all the Kerrigan ability achievements, do you have to do those during campaign, or can you do a replay to get them? Because I swear I've used drops, and it still says 0/3...

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
the "Get a grip" and "smoking corpses" achivements seem to be borked for me as well, pepetually stuck at 118 and 33 respectively, even after multiple checks after i know i made contact with their appropriate abilities. Think i'll just trade out the abilities for something i actually want then, if it's not going to give me an acheivement then i don't see why my Kerrigan should hinder herself with things i don't like.

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
Just beat the game on hard for the achivements and the missed kerrigan levels, some levels were hard, others were okay, a few were just plain annoying as they never gave me three secconds to build up an army for my next attack.
Might play wings of liberty again, i miss the mercenaries on thatAvy by Thormag

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
Then again, being able to have up to what... 7 larvae at a time? Who needs mercs when you can have a second hatch in base and just spam out everything? Plus Kerrigan and her not-so-insignificant abilities. Chain + Broodling + Spawn Banelings = tons of free disposable minions.

I loved the accompanying article explaining the return of the Warhound.
Our favorite race (terran) needed them because...reasons
Our favorite race (zerg) needed them because...zerg reasons are zerg.
Our favorite race (protoss) needed them to stop the QQ on the forums.~~Courage is not the lack of fear~~

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
We’re currently looking into alternative methods to give you the same punch, like perhaps adding a fourth race composed entirely of Warhounds, or perhaps neutral Xel’Naga Warhounds which can be claimed by nearby ground units.NOW COMPLETE: Let's Play Starcraft II Trilogy:

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
True, but i just like the whole concept behind the WoL mercs, they're like little mini-heros that are just a little better then your average unit, and if put into the right places could form up the small elite team you need to get a tactical advantage, or just get some high-powered units instantly since they arrive via drop-pod.Heck if you have a choke point you Reeeeeally need to hold, rather then putting four-six regular marines in a bunker, you can put the same amount of merc marines and have them do a much better job at it. And as far as i can remember, they still benifit from upgrades!
TL;DR: Mercs in the WoL campaign are just friggin cool.Avy by Thormag

I've got a replay that was funny as heck to me. Maybe not When Cheese Fails quality, but take a look. He raged like Idra at me.

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
That was easily the least of his problems. I think the floating of 1k mins and not taking all of his gas that game was a much bigger problem for him. Also, His 7 gate came about 2 mins too late and all it had was +1 attack.
I find it really funny that he raged when floating over 2k mins.....Last edited by DarkMemnarch; 2013-04-02 at 05:52 PM.

Re: Starcraft 2: 8 Medivac drop
He put a ton into gates, then didn't bother using them. Hell, I don't think there was any point in the game where all of his gates were on cooldown. He even dropped a proxy pylon, and never bothered using it.
Not that it would have ultimately mattered, two-base turtle is not going to hold up for long against an aggressively expanding four base zerg, particularly when he has all but ceded entire map control to the zerg.SpoilerQuite possibly, the best rebuttal I have ever witnessed.
