Re: Thaumaturge
Oh, I intended on replying to this post but forgot.
I'm an art student studying animation at the moment, and I think you give me a little too much credit. I just do what I like and try to do my best at it. There are many people out there much more talented than I, and I just do my best to try and match up to what others are capable of putting out at a much faster pace and higher quality than me. I guess I do want to make money off of my comics, but not so much that I would alienate my readership.
Anyway, thanks for the huge support. I'm always grateful to see people enjoying my work, even if I don't reply.
By the way, I'm finished up to page 29 now. My buffer is back!Last edited by Elagune; 2012-05-15 at 09:12 AM.

Re: Thaumaturge
This man is far kinder to Bibliography than I would've been if I was a reviewer, but he pretty much hit the nail on the head.
Now that I can look back on it with fresh eyes, I squandered an opportunity with Bibliography. Too many different threads of plot in my head that interfered with each other, so many beginnings with unsatisfying or no conclusions. Characters introduced with no reason other than to show off some cool designs and displaying shallow personalities, and in the end four years passed with pretty much no plot development to speak of. Bibliography is a failure in my eyes. The idea was interesting, but the execution so mediocre that it stalled it flat.
But that doesn't mean it was a waste of time. I learned a lot during my time drawing Bibliography, both in the art and writing department. I learned that experimenting is good, but having stability is important to the continuity of a comic. I also learned that art might draw people in, but writing keeps people coming back. I also learned that it's important to finish the plot points that you start.
Self-reflecting done. This is starting to sound more like a personal blog post. In other news, I'm uploading tomorrow's page early to Manga Magazine. DD will show up later. Will be too busy playing D3 to draw tonight!Last edited by Elagune; 2012-05-15 at 11:34 PM.

Re: Thaumaturge
Well, it wasn't exactly full of praise, but I wouldn't say it was entirely accurate. OK, yes, a lot of his critisism is true (OK, most/all of it), but he missed many good points. I felt that the humor was excellent, and despite your "troubles" with writing, you kept the main plot going at a reasonable pace. And I enjoyed the variety of characters (I would call them "extras", or "scene fillers") that didn't last very long.

Re: Thaumaturge
What it really came down to, in my opinion, is that you didn't have a compelling villian. A good well defined villian with a Master Plan (tm) can really drive the plot forward. Thaumaturge is a good example, notice how scarecrow man has kept our hero's on the clock and infused a sense of urgency to the whole comic.

Re: Thaumaturge
So we have our villain skeletonising people and an X-files reference.
Casper seems a lot more formidable, but it's not so much about the power he's shown as being competent and displaying common sense when dealing with the authorities.

Casper is quite the gunslinger...
Does anyone else think that there could be some Thau-weapons? Like a gun that shots out cards, and based on what cards are shot will effect the shots.Chibi Terry Avatar, made by the one the only (until cloning is prefected) Elagune

Re: Thaumaturge
I get the feeling that Casper's face is a skull under that mask. Either that or he's someone's brother.
On the topic of Casper, that guard's death was so fast that it actually looked merciful. If there was, say, a page between 24 and 25 with the guard melting and screaming it would make Casper's choice of thaumaturgy seem more horrifying.

Re: Thaumaturge
Why do I get the feeling, the the two guys Casper busted out, would be better off, if they stayed in prison?

Re: Thaumaturge
To be fair, the guard did look rather terrified as his face was turned into shadow and dissolved into the background, but it definitely could have been worse. Of course, that would have had far less class, and savvy villains can't really afford to look too horrible. I mean, just screaming would have woken everyone up already, and the time it would take would give the guard time to fire off a few inaccurate shots that could still have some important significance later.

Re: Thaumaturge
I'm liking this villain more and more and more. Ruthless, intimidating, intelligent, cautious, powerful, awesome costume.... Is there any aspect of villainy he doesn't excel at?
