    The Salterri Imperium
    481-485 CC, 1031-1035 Salterri Calendar

There are many in this world one can't ever trust
For they love things above one's friend
Rare is he who stands in principle
Side by side with you 'til comes the end

The Guilderene vice is coin, the Lyradissian pacifism
The Alorese lack move to action even at spearpoint
And Woodwind, Cree and Tuorkey are clouded by militarism

There are many in this world one can't ever trust
For they love things above one's friend
Rare is he who stands in principle
Side by side with you 'til comes the end

The dwarves are as their mountain home, grim and discord-filled
Their elven brothers hardly better, goblins thieves, the lot
And gnome and fire berapi from deadest ground are tilled

There are few in this world one might ever trust
For they hold principle as one's friend
Rare is he who stands dutifully
Side by side with you 'til comes the end

The Ashenian, while wooden, holds ever to his word
The valorous Celerese, with sword and silver courting
And if one meets one and should they vow, the Genivanan, so I've heard

There are many in this world one can't ever trust
For they love things above one's friend
Rare is he who stands in principle
Side by side with you 'til comes the end

The Bordeusi lack foresight, but that is not a sin
Even faced with the lizard's lying tongue
Until combined with Sulvai pride and all the Union storms in

There are many in this world one can't ever trust
For they love things above one's friend
Rare is he who stands in principle
Side by side with you 'til comes the end

The Hrathanesse bear love of death, unless there's more to gain
The clotheless Raaneki solely dance, the Sympol solely war
And Kasumor, far Kasumor, cherishes bladeskill over brain

There are many in this world one can't ever trust
For they love things above one's friend
Rare is he who stands in principle
Side by side with you 'til comes the end

The noble fae of Heartwaste stock as many of northern cold
Stay passive no matter the things that come
And likewise their fiery neighbours of Calorum so old

There are many in this world one can't ever trust
And most live in far and northern lands
But should you ever trust a Zuei by you
Never again there'd be a fool so grand

~ Old folk poem, presumed to be from the first half of the 4th century or latter half of the 3rd century

    Spoiler: Proverbs
    Show
The above song references some Salterri proverbs or well-known quotes of olden times.

A northerner is more trustworthy than a Zuei. ~ Xiu Burai, second Qzare of the Salterri Imperium, who is believed to have encountered and later fought people from the north and believed them to be untrustworthy. He likewise fought internally against the Zuei clan, who remained his greatest opponents within the Imperium.

They're tilled from deadest ground. ~ Salterri proverb, meaning 'they will contribute the least'

    1. [Military] "Handle" the traitorous Zuei.
    2. [Military] Raise 1000 land troops in Aus-Teire.
    3. [Military] Raise 1000 naval troops in Aus-Teire.
    4. [Military] [Great Project [5/5] Fortify Aus-Teire. Move 2000 soldiers from Penoccident to Aus-Teire to occupy the new fortifications.
    5. [Faith] Convert Salteire to the Hailings of the Silver Sea, to boost it to a majority. Success
    6. [Faith] Hold a memorial for the deceased members of the Imperial family and those who died in their defense.

    Rumours/News:
The Qzare has had a large number of people executed for the massacre at the Palace of Nighted Bloom. On the anniversary of the massacre Zuei Garus II, Zuei Maria Chunhua, Zuei Samada and his wife Lann Lijuan, ex-gouvernor of Salteire Lann Mïng and Jin Qiao were fed to the huma, commonly known as 'Jarr eagles' by the lowborn Salterri. Close to a thousand of their personal guards were killed during their arrest and as many of their personal servants were offered exile or death by their own hand. A minority chose the former.

Samada and Lijuan were aunts and uncle to Maria Chunhua's bastard daughter Gaulila, the late wife of Li Leiming and their two children, who also perished in the massacre. Lijuan and Mïng were aunt and uncle to their brother Lann Huang's bastard daughter Meiying, the late wife of Li Shandian--Li Leiming's twin brother, who was killed together with two of their four children. Jin Qiao was the elder sister of Jin Chrysanta, Jin Changying and Jin Jing, the late wives of Li Tailin Fireguard, Li Ensio Lius and Hannu Maa, and aunt to five of the Li children, three of which were killed in the massacre. It is believed they conspired to weaken the Imperial House of Li by killing undesirable members of their own Houses that had married into the Imperial House, such as bastard daughters Gaulila and Meiying.

During the Moonshroud of 482, a red glow washed over silver Heng'e, and the skies darkened twicefold.

The Fourth Tellurian Games marks the first time in the century that no member of the Imperial House of Li is involved in it. It is said that the Qzare specifically selected the participants for the new Vocal Arts competition to send a message to whomever might have ties with the perpetrators of the massacre two years prior.

    Calorum

Bussiness in Calorum has not been what it used to be. Arthus had been sick from his battle wounds and old age for a long time and after his death his doughter had to take over. She, however, was not even nearly grown up and Calorum remained without a propper ruler for all this time. Luckily Arvaya Divinorum however proves to be a fast learner and by the age of 10 becomes the youngest 'functioning' ruler Calorum has ever had. By the age of 13 she had a son, Brethar Divinorum. Brethar however does not seem to learn as a normal child does. By the time he was 1 year old he still was not able to crawl.
The first years of Arvaya's rule are somewhat strange as she clearly does not understand her function. However she is smart and after sometime her decisions become wiser.

Military: Raise a unit of Air force (Pegasus Legion) in New Crima
    Diplomacy Colonization: Send Envoys to Region#95 (Thousand Vales) {Failed}

The old Valeman's laugh was a deep and hideously scarred sounding thing. It resounded through the wall of his wooden lodge hall as all but one Cree look on with equal parts confusion and disgust.

The expedition team had been there for nearly 10 years now. One Inquisitor, one Scholar of Cultural Studies, one Engineer, and three Bloodknights. Their Leader was a Bloodknight named Nergui, and he alone saw what was so funny.

A situation map was spread out across the massive table. Across it were various tokens and statuettes that represented the tactical landscape. Light red represented Pavona. Deep purple represented The Cree. To the untrained eye, the map was evenly devided.

The Cree had arrived late, giving the Pavonian's an edge on introducing themselves to the various Vales. However, Pavonia is also vastly larger, leaving their diplomatic resource spread much thinner. The greater weight of a Great Kingdom’s bureaucratic luggage should, in theory, have slowed their efforts.

    But it didn't.

Only Nergui and the Old Long Beard of Vale Iron Bleak could see that. The Long Beard was pointing at Nergui as he laughed. He was laughing at 10 years of wasted effort. The young Bloodknight had staked his carrier on this mission.

All those long months of traveling Vale to Vale, making shows of strength and wealth, learning all the wants, needs, and old grudges in each, eating their horrible food and laughing at their crass jokes, all of it was for nothing. Nergui looked up at the Long Beard.

He was a craggy monster of a man. His balding head was surrounded by a halo of wild gray hair growing down to his belt. As always he had one hand rested on the pommel of his personal warhammer. He was laughing uproariously, but tears were streaming down his cheeks.

This is how Valemen wept. No respectable Valeman would be caught sobbing, even in his own home, if he hoped to remain respectable. So it was that in the Vales, boys were taught to laugh in the face of sorrow. When it hurts, and shows no sign that it'll stop hurting, you laugh.

Iron Bleak had been their main base of operations for nearly the entire mission. It had been among the more powerful, and most ambitious. The Long Beard there has spent his whole life attempting to unite the Vales. When the Cree first arrived he thought them fools. He was convinced the task was impossible.

As the years went by, they began proving him wrong. His dreams had been restored, at long last, he would see a united Thousand Vales in his own lifetime. The irony made him laugh harder. He would still see a united Vales now, but somehow found himself backing the wrong unifiers.

He continued laughing as Negui kicked over the massive oaken table. He laughed as his subordinates were ordered to begin the process of withdrawal. He even laughed as Negui cut open his hand and swore solemnly to return.

    Round Thirty-Two: Begin!
Years 486-490 of the Common Calendar

    Current OOC thread
    Dice Rolls Here and following

Don’t forget to link to any rolls you make for ANY Attribute checks, plus rolls for rulers you will start using at the start of next round. If you want a new ruler in the next round, you must state so in your action post for this round and link to their rolls. Any increases from actions for this round are counted for the ruler you start your next round with (because it’s handier to account for by the co-GM), which may or may not be your current ruler.

    Good luck!

    Rules Changes!

    • Secret actions may still be affected by actions of other players, secret or public, in logical and die based ways.
    • Secret actions may be 'investigated' IC using Roleplaying and personal deduction but without influence from investigation rolls.
    • Independent Nation/Great Kingdom region cap is raised to 8, Federation region cap is raised to 4/player

    Lucky!

    Growth!

[480] From the depths of Aimplach a race of fire giants rise in force! The Everburning Horde is now known!

[481] The nation of Valasharix makes itself known to the world!

[482] The capital of Faedas is officially and completely returned to The Heartwaste!

[483] All existing designs for Guilderene MECKs are destroyed completely!

[484] The Empire of the Silver Moon is born!

[485] The Hurosha Empire strikes a deal with the One Who Watches, agreeing to send 15,000 scholars to act as eyes for the Watcher within the coastal lands of the Central Continent with the Watcher in exchange agreeing to hold peace with the Huroshan holdings in Cuan and to exchange knowledge of the localities it has discovered in its long life beneath the waves with the Huroshans when and how it sees fit to do so.

    Investigate!

[481.1] Cree investigators from Ryazen Bay spend months investigating the Cree Stone phenomenon, sailing from the Cree Stone in Crima to the Oluska Stone in Cridan. Their research discovers that the Stones seem somehow connected as the researchers coordinate their tests based on solar patterns and record that effects on one stone are affected onto the other. The resonation of the Oluska Stone is amplified when struck lightly and when it does the Cree Stone is reported to resonate with its own hum as well. Eventually one of the Cree decides to test the stones for their reactions to various materials. None elicit a response until a Cree researcher cuts his palm and presses it to the Stone prompting both stones to begin to glow with ruins of an unknown origin lit with a pale green shade and the Cree Stone in Crima to begin resonating with the same hum as that of the one in Cridan.

[482] The Giant Spider in Nyroth does not appear hostile to the mshahidi investigators but makes no apparent attempts to communicate with them either, continuing to simply weave intricate patterns of silk between the trees during the night and resting in its home in the ground during the day.

[483] Tzaltec Unmarked setting out to discover those responsible for the Lotus Murders arrive at the scene of the crimes in Aus-Teire. Their preliminary investigations find that the exotic weaponry the killers used had a Tear of Yphine as a component, stuffed with a paste made of gunpowder and a strong kind of alcohol, either Heartwine, Niskovian Vodka or Haljan Absinthe.

With such incorporation of foreign goods in their weapons the Unmarked traveled to Diamondhead, from where a lot of the Heartlands' trade flows. There they uncovered a smuggling ring dealing in alcohol, weapons and third-class prosthetics, with ties to underworld figures from the Jeweled Cities, the Triumvirate and Guilder. Unfortunately it was here that the trail went cold when one of the smugglers blew up their den with gunpowder, killing any who might have provided more answers.

[484] Investigations into Mt. Shyluz are for months inconclusive, though the mountain rumbled and smoked as though it were near eruption no other signs of the earth indicated an eruption was imminent and no eruption came. The Haljans of Fera only added to confusion when they noted that there was little to no apparent change in heat or tectonic activity below the surface. Further, the smoke has been identified as a cool fog and continues to boil out of the mountain filling the sky with darkness.

Eventually a Niskan team decided it would need to scale the mountain and attempt to get a look inside. Upon reaching the top the team was able to look down into the open top of the mountain and was blasted back by cool foggy air as a great dragon emerged from the mountain and took off flying southeast!

The cool fog followed the flight of the dragon and reports of the shadow of the fog and beast traveled across Karintiya and Angan Anvale! The beast finally alighted upon the walls of Aphinkad in Angan Anvale and reared back, the cold fog being drawn to it as it began to unleash a chilling horror upon the city that immediately frostbit the inhabitants and destroyed buildings with its awful chill. Then, as if by some miracle, a ray of sunlight burst through the fog and struck the great dragon turning it to stone with a horrifying shriek heard across the west.

Nevertheless, despite this reprieve, many were frozen to death by the first volley and much of the city was frozen solid. The fog of darkness continued for five days and recovery from the attack was slow. All told, 1,000 people in Angan Anvale are slain.

None know what to do with the dragon's stone body. Some wish it destroyed, others preserved, and a few think it should be carefully removed and either sold or placed somewhere safe.

[485] Hakimu Sudi's consultation of the Oracles regarding the One Who Watches leads to his receiving the following message.

    Deep below and fast asleep
    Long has the Watcher watched
Inside the mind so very deep
    Unnoticed ticks were notched

So wake the mind of blessings high
And with it disrupt the Watcher sleep
Lacking eyes is sure to die
    Unleashing knowledge it does keep

    Colonize!

Pavonia finishes integrating the Thousand Vales (95) beating out the Cree colonizers from the north! [Colonization 2/2]

[487] Though the disappearances of ships upon the Sea of the Golden Sun has continued unabated for at least a decade, attributed to the Thirteenth Sword Captain Dreadlove in recent months the disappearances have become even more frequent. Many Triumvirate Guilds have begun to refuse to send ships through the open sea and FATS too has expressed a disinclination to travel the open ocean. Most shipping has begun to take long and circuitous routes following coastlines and of those brave or stupid enough to travel the open ocean less than half succeed in making the sojourn. Shippers upon the Sea demand something be done about the Thirteenth Sword!

In one of his first acts, First Brother Charles sends out a missive to the Shahidi Mkuu-Blazing Avatar Hushyarr, High Priestess Arvaya Divonorum of Calorum, the long faithful lords of Bordeux and the Sulvan Primarchy, and the King of Carmine and the High King of Mularuhm to come attend a summit regarding the future and fate of the Faith at the Blazing Temple in the year 488.

    AQUA Round 32 (486-490) actions:
    Previous round increase: +2 Diplomacy

    Events & Rumors
---> Skipper General Andus Fitzrion announces that the Seaborne Confederation is too vast to administer from Pearl. He announces plans to build a new capital city in Galomyr. This does not go over well in many areas, and he spends the next few years on a endless cycle of diplomatic trips to calm his constituents.
---> THe rumor is the intense schedule is wearing on the Skipper, and his health is taking a turn for the worse.
---> The rumor is that the Free Alliance of Trading Ships (FATS) assisted in the escape of the Cree Scientist Terbishy Stuyvesant. Others say it was a ploy by the Seaborne Confederation to imprison him on the Bloomenwald Isles.
---> The Seaborne Confederation offers assistance to the citizens of New Crima during their recent geological upheavals. Refugee centers are set up along the border to provide medical and food assistance to those displaced.

    ACTIONS
Action #1 (diplomacy 5) Re-stabilize Tar after the announcement (cannot find a post where I did it originally anyway)
Action #2 (diplomacy 5) Stabilize Novrania, who was upset that the 'king's capital' was not chosen
Action #3 (diplomacy 5) Stabilize the Bloomenwald Isles by setting up formal diplomatic ships to control entry and help recovering addicts
Action #3 (diplomacy 5) Stabilize the Jeweled Cities, as many are truly upset at losing their status as the Capital of the Seaborne Confederation
Action #5 (military) Construct third unit of Naval ships for delivery to New Crima.

    Expected Increase this round:

    Declaration Regarding the Pax Varinel
    Spoiler
    Show

    Leaders of the World,

The Faedas Freehold reaches out to its neighbors and friends and long standing related nations. Many have turned their backs on Faedas and its constituents despite years of aid and generous trading agreements. Again the Freehold seeks to educate and inform its neighbors who in their ignorance make mistakes regarding the state and its actions.

Firstly, it has always been and continues to be the policy of the Heartwaste Holds, member state of the Faedas Freehold, to uphold and defend the tenets of the Pax Varinel signed by Queen Valineth the Just. Nevertheless, it has never been the policy of the Ancient Fiefdom of Sanctuary to uphold the bonds made by the Heartwaste Holds anymore than it was the duty of Raaneka to carry out the obligations formerly held by Guilder to the Concordat of Frost & Flame. Two separate nations were united under the Freehold and only under the guidance of Pious Queen Kyria have they become to coalesce. However, the Freehold is not bound to the agreements made with the separate entities and is only bound to the treaties made with the Freehold and has neither power nor force to impose itself upon its constituent members to abide by treaties made by another.

Secondly, troops from the Heartwaste Holds have never marched an aggressive inch since the signature of the Pax Varinel. Troops from Eyrecradia aided the Kingdom of Carmine and the Kingdom of Serendel in defeating the Kell invaders and until most recent years the Heartwaste had no standing army at all. Those from the Heartwaste that have been deployed most recently have been deployed in defense of those signatories of the Pax Varinel who have not broken their word agreed to by their nations. The Ancient Fiefdom of Sanctuary sought to reclaim their ancient held lands of Galie-Noiret and were successful with the aid of the non-signatory Hurosha Empire. Two non-signatory nations working next to the Heartwaste Holds but in no way members or regions controlled by the Holds, subject only to the Freehold.

Thirdly, the Crown and the Aristocracy deeply regret that the Royal Council of Raaneka, once believed honorable even in the face of this infernal and dastardly war in the east, have felt it necessary to breach their word and march upon the Heartwaste. The Hertwaste Hold Princes, despite the urgings of Sanctuary and the Freehold, have elected to not resist this aggressive Raaneki expansionism. This policy of aggressive attack flies in the face of every Tenet of Adite-Devdano and it is the Hold Princes' sincere hopes that some of the Raaneki soldiery might see the fear the whims of their aggressive and murderous despot Sucheta inflicts upon the native populaces of the Holds. The country populaces shall be moved to safety within the cities which are prayed to Kina shall not be razed by the Raaneki fire birds while the armies of the Holds seek to defend their allies and signatories whose names are more than ink from the aggression of Raaneka and its allies.

In closing, we of Faedas, both Sanctuary and the Heartwaste, ask that the world look upon the world as it stands. Look upon the east, where a war is fought to reclaim that which was taken freely by Guilder's word of agreement but held tightly in jealous greed unreturned when their word was canceled. Look upon the north, where Raaneka wages a war of aggression attempting to prevent a true nation of peace from aiding its allies and friends. Look upon this world and ask yourself, which nations would you see thrive upon Telluris? Look upon yourselves, signatories of the Pax Varinel, and ask if you shall allow Raaneka to breach the words you sword to defend. Faedas stands ever ready to speak with its friends and to seen an end to the wars wrought upon this world by Raaneka and its cohorts. Look upon the world and see the truth of these actions, and listen to our plea as a nation of peace and sisterhood, do not let the bullies of this world intimidate and impose themselves upon our nations, for if they do so now, there shall be no end.

    Queen Kyria Varinel
    Queen of the Heartwaste
    High Prince of Sanctuary

Round 32 Actions for the Kingdom of the Carmine Sea

    News and Rumours
    • Yuli of Vennland has discovered no connection between the Korošec murders and the Lotus killings, although rumours suggest he has taken the opportunity to resume his alleged affair with a lady of Niskovia.
    • The king has established a dole for the poorest citizens of Horbeach to alleviate their suffering during the Sycian grain blockade. Mobs have gathered in the streets demanding war against the Empire of Dawn.
    • Death threats have been issued against Pybbig, the young earl of Isling, who is thought to be a sympathiser towards the Empire of Dawn. His Cloudiz ancestry does not help the impression.
    • Athelwyr the Horseman, the atheling, eldest grandson of the Old King, has died in his bed. The official cause of death is recorded as "over-exertion". His second son, Malyn, has inherited the position of atheling following the departure of Prince Athelwygg to Raaneka.
    • Two daughters, Ambryn and Seirwynn, have been born to Prince Alfwyr and Princess Lyra.
    • Two daughters, Celwyrr and Kwyn, have been born to Princess Carys and her husband Eelis Hel.

    Non-Actions:
Representatives of the crown attend the Humanitarian Conference and agree the treaty pending further details and ratification by the king himself.

    Spoiler: The Truth of Ambition
    Show

Reaching the Blazing Temple was a challenge in these times, with all three of the surrounding powers threatened by war. It was eventually decided to travel through Eyrecradia, where the king's sister ruled, and into Razdis to emerge near to the Temple itself, though the party remained particularly heavily-guarded throughout.

It was thus a surprise for Prince Elwyn when the stranger walked into his chambers. All the same, he was a prince of Jarrow, a young man at the height of self-confidence and sure in his abilities, and did nothing to show it.

Who are you?” he asked casually, barely looking up. His sword was within reach and he doubted there were any in these lands who could match him blade for blade.

    “A friend.”

There was one who called themselves friend to all in the Triumvirate. It ended badly.

The man smiled. He was not a native; rather, he looked like a man of Jarrland, albeit not one Elwyn recognised from their travelling party.

“I have heard great things of you. I have come to offer you my assistance.”

I am a prince of the blood. What assistance could you possibly offer that my family cannot?

“Don't be coy. When born you were not expected to live more than a few months. What sorcery did your father have to call upon to pull you from the brink of death? There is a will to survive within you that has seen you become what you are today. I would see you greater yet.”

    You would see me king?

“Why not? Only one stands in your way, and removing him would not be difficult.”

I bear my cousin no ill will. If the crown falls to me I will accept it, but I shall not seek it out.

“A pretty lie to help you sleep at night. You can never escape your past, Elwyn. You are sustained through darkness and ambition-”

Darkness!?” Elwyn stood, and flared, filling the room with light. “I am blessed by the Lord of Fire.

“As was Adam, whose abode you go to visit.”

Enough!” Elwyn snapped. “I know not who you are, but I have no need of your aid. Begone, and let me not see you again lest I kill you.

“You will come to see the merits of my words in time. If you had the wit to accept my help now, you could become great.”

I shall become great with your help or no.

    “Then why not accept it?”

Because I do not like your manner.” Elwyn turned his back. “Leave.

    Rumors/News

-Marvella has extended an open invitation to Eero Krii Valkoinen to "pay her a visit" (as the servants put it) in Sycia. The invitation came with a pegasus as a gift, as well as thanks for his many years of correspondence. Anything more detailed than that is kept between the high priestess and Eero, in large part because of Marvella's habit of reading letters in private.

-Eirlys has retired from her position as head priestess of foreign affairs, but remains at Sycian court for unknown reasons. She claims to be 'far too old for this s%$#', though most accounts paint her as too young to need the cane she's currently sporting.

-Marvella has begun wearing reading glasses.

-While officially Sycia and Glazfell's relations are just peachy, in private it's rumored that the King and the High Priestess have grown cold and sour. The actual reasons are unknown, but rumors are that Marvella disapproves heavily of the war between the Empire and the Concordat, while the King feels Sycia's refusal to deploy offensively is an insult.

-Marvella has managed, it seems, to secure missionaries for the Doctrine access to the Kingdom of Serendel. The exact details of this deal are not public knowledge, but the timing is strange considering that war was declared shortly beforehand.

O', but the Soul of the Hollow Empire could be found in the meadows!
-Ancient Remnant of a song from the Sixth Age

Every An Náduri knows why our nation split from the Fae Empire so long ago. How could one stay within the borders of those who would seek that which they cannot have? Perhaps they would have achieved it too, but at great cost. Fragments of lore remaining from those times suggest the An Náduri tried all they could to stop the Fae, but to no avail. It is known the Fae Empire paid the price (for part of what they had to pay belonged to everyone, not just the Fae) but it is not known whether or not they succeeded...

    Cervidh Fangs 415

The general scoffed at the miniscule army before him. It is said he was the first fool to charge at the Cervidh without a second thought, laughing hysterically when the army ran back toward the forest.

He was also the first to die that day. He fell unnoticed, dead before he could hit the ground.
Panic set in as more arrows rained from the sky. Those leading the charge would have slowed then, if not for the fact the rest of the army had not yet realised their grave mistake. For though it would seem on the surface the charged into a normal forest, closer scrutiny would reveal cleverly hidden traps awaiting the infantry.

Numerous battles were won using similar guerilla tactics until the enemy forced the Cervidh to fight them in the open. Overwhelming numbers of Cervidh warriors with painted faces showed up to fight that day. Though their weapons and armour were far 'inferior', the war was won with few casualties for An Nádur.

It is said the enemy never dared go near the forest again.

    Of Elves and Cervidh 487

When the world was young and the Deities were still in the process of Shaping it, the Elves stepped out from the blossoms the Goddess Ethyllwn had been growing for millennia. So began the First Age

It was not often the Cervidh avoided the natives of the land through which they travelled and simply unheard of after it became crystal clear the natives were friendly. Nonetheless, the An Náduri had hid themselves from the Elven Folk for some years now as they made their way to warmer lands. It would perhaps have been understandable, for the An Náduri had been forced further south than they were comfortable with not thirty years before. But it not Elves who did so, nor is it consistent with the hospitality for which An Nádur is known. Perhaps the rulers of the Fae Empire marred the Elven name? Yet, when An Nádur left it is said they left with sorrow in their hearts and declared those elves no longer Children of Ethyllwyn at heart. Numerous legends dating as far back as the Fourth Age tell of Cervidh and Elves being nigh inseperable. Ceannin Llyeth ran a finger along the ancient wooden tablet which spoke of the Elves and Cervidh of the late Fifth Age.

The sound of whispers spoken in a foreign dialect reached Llyeth's ears far later than they would have if not for the snowstorm raging outside. "Spread the word. We have company." Though the An Náduri would offer hospitality of a high standard, this would be the first time in decades the guests of An Nádur would be met by armed Cervidh.

For the An Náduri only know of one instance where elves had hair as white as snow...

    The First Bardic Order 489

    Strange Hope 490

Ceannin Llyeth watched as the last of the Kathuan Tribe crossed the border into 'Trinacria' of the 'Kingdom of the Carmine Sea'. The lands seemed no warmer than those they had just left, but Llyeth knew it would not be long before they reach lands where the Cervidh could live comfortably, though it would not be quite the same as the lands their ancestors roamed. It seemed (at least to Llyeth) it would be safe to travel further West, for none of those who knew of the West described a nation anything like the one in An Náduri Tales of the Sixth Age.

    Praeclarus

    486-490
    Round 32

    Early in year 486

::Sanctus Makgrull B'tman!:: A younger Makgrull, a messenger, swam with some urgency, clicking and chirping loudly, so as to be heard by the white skinned leader of all of Praeclarus.

Looking past the large gathering of Great Tower representatives towards whomever was trying to get his attention would be difficult for B'tman, even though he was considered to be large for the Makgrull. It just wasn't a question of height. When people wished to gather around him, they did not just encircle him, but swarmed him. The Sanctus became trapped inside a bubble of people vying for his attention for one thing or another, usually - to B'tman slowly degrading patience - to talk about what changes they made to their Rock Gardens, or what their Squid did this morning. It was a rare day that B'tman actually discussed something he thought was important.

Or, at least, it had been.

B'tman politely pushed past the swarm of Makgrull around him and made it to the edge, where the messenger was clicking once more, ::Sanctus Makgrull B'tman!::

    ::Speak.::

::I come. Represent many Pods. They say, Praeclarus big. Praeclarus very big. Praeclarus not big enough. Many Makgrull. Many many Makgrull. Pods want new towers.::

::New towers? No rock spires. Cannot shape just Adamas Coral for towers for a Pod, much less many Pods.:: A dignitary behind B'tman chirped.

::And what of finding more Oh-no-not-the-bloody-gold? Very pretty. Very very pretty.:: Another Great Tower representative clicked. Many others clicked in agreement. B'tman wanted to release a stream of bubbles in a sigh. Oh-no-not-the-bloody-gold was very pretty, but he'd been hearing about it for so long, and there was never enough of it. Instead, the Sanctus waved a webbed hand, and everyone slowly fell to silence again.

The messenger continued, ::C'gnin agrees. Many many pods. Not enough rock spires. C'gnin does not want new towers in Praeclarus. C'gnin wants... new Praeclarus. Want... New city!::

The room that was quiet just a second ago exploded in clicks and chirps as all the gathered Great Tower members began shouting.

::What wrong with Praeclarus? We fix! Make perfect!::
    ::Leave Praeclarus? Bad idea!::
::What about Oh-no-not-the-bloody-gold? Very very pretty!::
::Many monsters. Many many monsters. Sending pods out bad idea!::
    ::C'gnin waterlogged!::
    ::Good idea.::

Everyone looked around to see who had clicked the last thing. Some stared in open horror, while others began to rethink the idea, when it became obvious that it had been Sanctus Makgrull B'tman to think that making a new city would be a good idea. The Sanctus continued, ::Praeclarus big. Praeclarus very big. Praeclarus beautiful. But... Praeclarus not big enough. Many many pods. Never enough towers. Tell C'gnin that she can have new city... if she find place for it. She can send small pods to look for new city place. If we lucky, we may even find many new city places. Grow pods. Grow city. Grow big. If very lucky, we find Oh-no-not-the-bloody-gold somewhere.::

And that was all it took. The majority of the Great Tower members thought about the idea of finding more Oh-no-not-the-bloody-gold, and suddenly they were all discussing the good idea.

::R'bin?:: B'tman chirped at the messenger softly before the younger boy left. ::Tell C'gnin this. No go to sky. Wood demons weird. No follow rock spires into sky. Wood demons seen to sleep near where sand turns to rock where Mother Sea kisses Uncle Sky hello. Stay away. Go around. We live with great Mother Sea, only visit Uncle Sky sometimes. Not this time. Stay away. If absolutely must go into sky, show only head. Wood demons get confused. Think we dolphins still.::

The messenger bobbed his head up and down in acknowledgement, and swam away.

    Middle of year 488

G'gjin and his friends were playing high above Praeclarus. Near full adults, G'gjin and his friends would soon be asked to find jobs. Either as gatherers, garden keepers, or join B'tman's new military corps to help fend off monsters and demons. G'gjin himself was hoping to be accepted to the new reef building that everyone was calling Uncle Sky's School for Walking the Surface. B'tman had made it known that he was very interested in what was going on under Uncle Sky's watch, but he still refused to let anyone walk up there without proper training. Many Makgrull spoke in wonder at the idea of walking the surface, but knew it would be several years before such a thing was possible.

The water suddenly began to get angry. The flow was wrong. G'gjin and his friends looked around to see what might be causing it. They saw nothing in the water. G'gjin looked up.

Uncle Sky was dark and angry, and tinting the waters with blackness. Uncle Sky raged, and briefly lit up from what G'gjin thought may have been called 'lightning'.

That light was enough for G'gjin to see it. Several wood demons. Several badly hurt wood demons. He clicked to his friends, ::Get help. Many wood demons. Falling from Uncle Sky into Mother Sea.::

When a wood demon died, it fell into Mother Sea's embrace, and slowly sank towards Praeclarus. If the Makgrull were lucky, the Maw would swallow them. But sometimes, they would die and fall atop the city itself. And the smaller demons inside - G'gjin thought they were usually called 'humans' - didn't like it when the Wood Demon died either. They thrashed and made bubbles, and though they could not talk, it was clear that they were having trouble changing from sky breathing to water breathing. B'tman had made it very clear to everyone that the Tablets of Praeclar said that the smaller demons should be taken to the safety of a the nearest rock spire that touched between Uncle Sky and Mother Sea.

Wood demons dying like this happened very rarely, but because of where their corpses might land, it could be a very bad thing. G'gjin's friends locked their legs together, and swam for help, chirping ::Dying Wood Demons! Dying Wood Demons!::

Soon, many of B'tman's new military were swimming to their aid. Uncle Sky raged again, and one of the Wood Demons shuddered and began to sink.

Something glittered in the water near G'gjin, and close to the surface as he was, he heard one of the humans shriek loudly in dismay, "Oh no, not the bloody gold!"

G'gjin waited for Uncle Sky to flash again, and sure enough, there was Oh-no-not-the-bloody-gold in the water. Lots of it. So very much, in fact. G'gjin grabbed as much as he could quickly, and swam for the warriors that were coming from the city. ::Look! Look! Much much Oh-no-not-the-bloody-gold!::

One of the warrior leaders clicked loudly ::Alpha Pod, help small demons! Beta Pod, get the Oh-no-not-the-bloody-gold!::

G'gjin backed away in wonder, and watched the warriors work. As each Wood Demon died, they waited till it could be caught in the flow, and then they pushed. Together, hundreds of them, they managed to push each Wood Demon towards the mouth of the Maw... but not before grabbing all of the smaller demons and all of the Oh-no-not-the-bloody-gold from each Wood Demon.

G'gjin could not read the human paintings... yet. He swore that if he got into Uncle Sky's School for Walking the Surface, he would learn how to speak their tongue and read their paintings, but for now, he could only marvel at how each Wood Demon was tattooed with the same painting. If he had been able to read it, he still would have no concept of what it meant. 'Guilder' was not a word that many, if any at all, Makgrull would know.

Sailors report seeing many more dolphins than usual in the strait that connects the Sea of the Golden Sun with the Thousand Seas. They pop their heads above the surface, and then go below the waters again.

On days that the waters are very clear, sailors swear they see a giant coral reef in the same area.

One drunken sailor claims to have seen a grey mermaid, except, and we quote: "She were backwards, she was. Head of a fish, body of a woman. Can't say I wouldn't 'ave liked it better that way, now that I've 'ad time what to consider it." Collaboration of this dubious story are doubtful, since his shipmates knew he was drunk the whole trip as well.

Sudden storms are making it difficult for shipping around the Thousand Suns Strait. While most ships make it through fine, occasionally, some will not. The curious part is that no crew members of the lost ships have died drowning. They wake up ashore, alive and well.

Shiny objects that fall overboard in the area are never recovered. Even if sailors are quick to jump in after it, they quickly leave the water, claiming to see dangerous, fast moving shadows. Gold, especially, goes missing very quickly.

    War!

History has often show the terrible cost when the fraternity of nations falls to violence. So great is the accumulated suffering of past generations that peace has reigned where once there was strife. Yet even as we sup on the fruits of providence, we must stand watchful against idleness and apathy. For there are some affronts which cry out for action, some trespasses which incite even the ghosts of the fallen to demand vengeance. It is with grief that we of the Concordat recognize that we are faced with just such an insult, an insult which can only be washed clean with blood.

For decades, the tenets of the Concordat have maintained peace where there once was chaos, harmony where there might otherwise have been vicious conflict. It was under the protection of these tenets that her original signatories spread and prospered. Tzalteclan. Glazfell. And Guilder. Guilder, which in return for generations of peace broke from the Concordat when they had no further use for it. Guilder, whose blind lust for power moved them to align with the darkest of human hearts. Guilder, that now hides behind the swords of its allies.

Let it be known, the Concordat of Frost and Flame charges Guilder and their Empire of Dawn with crimes both base and foul. With one voice, we accuse them:

    • Of gross and malicious negligence that has seen the deaths of kings and princes.
    • Of continued insult towards the Concordat and her principles, unabated by recompense or apology.
    • Of capricious misdirection in exploiting the peace assured by membership in the Concordat while conspiring with the Empire of Dawn to deprive fellow members of the fruits of their labors.
    • Of selfish warmongering in defiance of the peace that has reigned beneath Glazfelli and Tzaltec steel.
    • Of allowing weapons forged of their own hands to fall into the possession of the assassins of children.

Yet even in the face of these affronts, the Concordat did not take action. For it is not wounded pride which moves us now, but a brazen attack on the Concordat and the peace that we so strive for. For in defense of peace we extended a hand to Khaboss Stormskull, and were met with a tale of vile betrayal. Beneath the notice of all Telluris, Guilder plotted insurrection and war, courting Khaboss Ironarm to their banner while attempting to place him in the seat of Stormskull with deadly poison. Now Guilder's puppet orcs march on the Concordat wrapped in Guilderene armor, and an orcish king bereft a son cries out in vengeance. The Concordat will not stand by while Guilder and her puppet masters in Raaneka and Lyradis blaze a trail of carnage across the East. The Concordat will not stand by as those we took as friends and allies ready knives behind false smiles and forked tongues.

Therefore, it is with the heavy hearts of the aggrieved that we declare war. Not in pursuit of blind ambition, but to restore the peace that the Empire of Dawn has torn asunder.

Ten little Guilderenes sailin' at Duskeye,

Four little Guilderenes retreating for the sea,
    One's boat caught fire and then there were three;

One little Guilderene livin' all alone,
Fiassa got captur'd and then there were none.

Planinfrag: War! Under attack from yet another Orcish Horde, King Rufus of Stolok marshals (most of) the army of the Planin: 5,000 men and women clad in woolen battle-dress and whatever armour they own, painted for war, and wielding fine polearms crafted by the artisans of Hradiska. After a few initial skirmishes make it quite clear that the Orcs have an advantage in the valleys, King Stolok devises a new strategy: Stay up in the hills and mountains, use blackpowder to blast cliffsides apart, raining boulders down to trap the enemy, and pelting them from above with slings and bolts. The Pavonian Arbalest design comes in handy here, its powerful bolts capable of easily puncturing the crude Orcish Plates. Force them up high, where the Planin are used to fighting them. Duke Ironfang soon arrives with his army to assist in the fight, and his knowledge of mountain tactics is put to good use.

The Sycian Crusaders sent by High Priestess Marvella are themselves incredibly useful, keeping eyes in the skies to track the movements of Khaboss Ironarm's Horde and further acting as Heavy Cavalry when necessary. To supplement these, King Torre sends a Legion of Suri to assist the Crusaders, supply weapons and materials to the defenders, and provide roosting for the Pegasi.

"Sir Arche, all soldiers are ready to depart within the next couple of hours. Suplies are loaded into the Marius' Pride cargo hold."

Rove looked up from the parchment he was reading, giving the messenger a thorough look. A mere boy, probably around 30 years old. His discipline was something to be admired though, as he stood there making sure to look straight forward to the hills behind them.

"Outstanding crewman. Tell Ruok and Crëag that I will want the extra men within the next 50 minutes. Also, say to Crëag that he has to keep those damn Salt-jin wurms in check. They're making a ruckus."

    "Yes, Sir Arche!"

    "Now skat, crewman, I'm busy."

While the crewman skampered to get out, he colided with a female Cloudiz just coming around the corner. When the crewman recognised her, his face went red as a Tanhedhan. He let out a stream of apologies, then fled the scene.

Ryena came over to Rove, smiling slightly amused.

"The quality of the crewmen has come down lately, haven't they?"

"My Empress." Rove bowed. "He is young still, please forgive him this slight for this once."

Ryena chuckled. "I guess I can make an exception."

Rove looked her straight in the eyes, no expression upon his face.

"What can I do for you, My Empress?"

Within an instant, Ryena's face became serious.

"Arche Rove Earthguard, how do you feel about your sister?"

    "My...sister....You mean Kyria, your grace?"

"Yes. Your other sister sleeps still, correct?"

"That is indeed correct. Hhmm, well... Let's say I plan on giving her a nice welcome when I meet her. I have somebody she just has to meet."

Ryena walked to a crate nearby, upon which a weapon rested, its blade covered by cotton. The Empress stroked the weapon.

"I see. It has to be a touching reunion then."

    Rove laughed out loud.

"Oh yes, my Eienguard. Although it would have to be a very very long conversation."

"Just try to be gentle to your poor sister, Arche Rove."

"One can only try, my Empress."

    (OOC: Gotta have battle music)

-The Year 487 of the Kasumori Callender, Second Solar Cycle, Pyrith of Vengeance, Day of Beauty-

-Frontier battlefield, 15 hours after the battles began-

An arrow grazed Rove's helmet, ricocheting harmlessly away. He spotted the culprit, a Tzaltec archer, standing foolishly a mere 20 meters away from him. Moving at a speed one would deem unlikely for one as heavily armored as him, the Arche of the Eternal Earth ran towards his quarry. Before the archer could nock another arrow, Rove punched him in the face with a gloved hand with such a force that he heard his neck snap. Even before the lifeless body hit the floor, Rove ran towards his next target, his squad falling in behind him.

Disciplined. Skilled. Deadly. A wave of Prowess washing over the battlefield.
The battle went well uptill now, for sofar Rove could see. That didn't mean that there weren't lots of casualties. A Mushi Heishi above him was hit by the foulness that was Tzalt-jin Fire, erupting into flame. His screams were abruptly silenced when he hit the ground, finished off by enemy troops.

Further ahead, a giant Dunfel towered over the battlefield, swatting soldiers out of the skies as if it were nothing. Rove started to rally his troops and give the command to engage when suddenly Crëag errupted from the ground, the Currundum Menhîrin mounted on his armor Wurm. The massive beast slammed into the Dunfel, toppling them both over. The last thing Rove saw of the Menhîrin Arche before he disappeared from view was that his colleague dismounted, crashed on the Dunfels head with the force of an meteorite.

Rove turned his attention back to the battlefield, seeing a group of Rat-jin Stormvermin charge towards him, all covered in gore, their weapons gleaming wet with blood. As his comrads took up defense positions, he unsheated Kuroyume with one smooth motion and stabbed it into the earth.

"Kuroyume, Blade of the Black Dream, By Ashmar I besiege thou! Bring Annihilation to mine foes!"

From inside Kuroyume, a darkness streamed out, washing harmlessly over his comrads. The uncoming Rat-jin weren't so lucky though. As they charged into the darkness, their worst fears, both known and unknown, appeared before their eyes in full glory. Experiencing terror beyond mortal comprehension, their lives left them before they could even react properly.

As Rove pulled Kuroyume out of the ground, a Rat-jin dropped down upon him from above, undoubtly from one of the aerial troops present. Mad with bloodlust, the vermin raked his sword across every surface he could hit. It did not do much other than scratch his armor. Rove grabbed the Rat-jin by the helm, throwing him off his back, leaving him to die by his comrads arms. The rat did not come alone. Half a dozen of his men lay dead at their feet. Momentarily gathering their wits, they went back in, intent on slaying as many attackers as possible and avenging their fallen comrads.

It wasn't long until they set their sites on a Tzaltec field-commander. Rove smiled behind his helm, ordering his men to take care of the small fry. The commander saw Rove coming, but that was alright with the Arche. Otherwise, it wouldn't be much of a challenge. Their swords clashed again and again, both men spinning around eachother, trying to exploit the other's weaknesses. For a full minute, the man managed to amuse Rove, before he made a critical error. Misplacing his foot on the hand of a corpse nearby, the commander lost his balance for a brief moment. This allowed Rove to get a strong blow in, which the commander tried to block with his weapon. Another grave mistake. His sword splintered under the force of the Relic Weapon, Kuroyume barely glancing off on the man's helmet, knocking it off in the process. Dazed, the man stumbled around. Holding Kuroyume in his offhand, Rove grabbed the mans head with one hand, lifting him from the ground.

"How does it feel to be humiliated by the ones you dispise, Tzal-jin? You are nothing more than tiny newts, masquerading as something bigger. Your filthy fake god will bow before Ashmar, as will all."

As Kuroyume's magic began to affect Rove's victim, the man's eyes widened and he began to scream. Rove, laughing softly from behind his helm, tightened his grip upon the man's head, ultimately crushing it. Dropping the lifeless corpse on the ground, he returned to his comrades, still busy clearing out their surroundings.

The taste of blood, the smell of iron, steel, gunpowder. Such was the thrill of battle. Maybe he liked the smell and taste of blood too much. He had to be carefull not to fall into the same trap his sisters did. Weaklings they were. To bad there were no traitorous Fae-jin troops to slaughter. He might even have had the chance to "talk" with his sister. Pity....a real pity.

Chivalric Republic of the United Free Cities
    "Land of Free Knights"

    Years 486-490

Commelina of Neu, Grand-Master of the Order of Free Knights (36-40)
    Steward Euco of Verbena (15-20)

Completion of the new curriculum and education programs has taken most of her strength. For Commelina who became Steward and has rebuilt her beloved nation, there is finally a chance to rest. Despite the pleas of the council representatives, she resigns her position as Steward. However, everyone is reassured by her presence as Grand-Master to assist the new Steward. Because Free Knight Representative Reine of Verbena has resigned from the council, Grand-Master Commelina reluctantly becomes a Free Knight Representative. Free Knight Representative Astera of Maranta also does not return to the council for this time.

It becomes very popular gossip to discuss new Steward. Because Commelina is the first Steward, everyone is very curious who will be chosen. Eventually it is decided Free Knight Euco of Verbena will be the next Steward because of her strong role in the defeat of western bandits and dangerous Fernbrake scouting mission. This is a surprise, because Euco is Free Knight Reine of Verbena's daughter. However, she decisively begins new actions, with Commelina's approval.

    Host International Humanitarian Law Conference
    (Diplomacy Action)
"It is a knight's duty to protect!" It is the rallying words of Free Knight Euco and Grand-Master Commelina. All nations are invited to international conference in Uran. The conference invitation addresses the international community.

We must think of the helpless during war. As nations, we should agree:
    1) Noncombatant and refugees must be protected. They must not be killed. Surrendered warriors and prisoners are included.
    2) Care for wounded and sick is responsibility. Medics and doctors should not be impeded.
    3) The international symbol White Shield and Red [H] must be respected as sign of protection.
The organization [International Hospitalers] are free knights and volunteers who serve in disaster and war areas for humanitarian purpose. They should have free access to nations who sign this [International Humanitarian Law].

    Free Knights Academy Curriculum
    (Curiosity: Project Action (2/2))
A new generation of Free Knights, wearing their school uniforms, are raised with the skills and expertise that their great-grandparents, grandparents, and parents only learned in war. New design of Academy by Commelina has education of [Primary] and [Secondary] to last 10 years. [Primary] students are called [Apprentice] and [Secondary] students are called [Squires]. Graduation age is 15 years old. Not only is it important to be a skilled warrior, but administration is important, too. Law and Justice must be understood, but also useful academics such as <History> and <Mathematics> and <Foreign Languages>. Of course there are many elective courses and extracurricular activities. Arguing with many instructors is a burden for Commelina. However, it can't be argued with the success of new program. Aspiring young apprentices and squires are the treasure of the cities.

    Inspired Chivalric Society
(Curiosity 5 Special: New Resource: Knights)
The popular changes of education and emphasis on chivalry education has made it every child's dream to become a knight. With 10 years of education, new apprentices and squires are becoming Free Knights, and entering bureaucracy and gendarmes. For a patriotic and generous people, it is a proud era.

    Free Knights Renowned Epic
(Military 10 Special Action: Winning Tactic: (Storms))
Heroic Free Knights can fight in any environment. However, very memorable are their abilities in the most difficult of weather. Even if most armies become disorganized by mud and rain, or scared of thunder and lightning, a Free Knight will always do one's best. The summer rainy season and Fernbrake are not just examples. Of course history remembers defeat of Zuiguo in many summer battles. Of course such ability is trained skill and talent.

    Adventurers Travel into Desert
(Diplomatic Colonization Action of #142 (1/2))
    Result: [13] Successful
Situation of bandits attacking Uzan was examined. It was learned that there are people who are defeating the bandits in the western land, so the bandits have been fleeing and fighting Uzan. Squire Rosa of Rubia and Laura of Campanula volunteer with companions to scout the dangerous desert and find these people and support them.

    Situations

International Conference: Hosting an international conference is important news. Of course gossip and curiosity about foreigners is popular in the cities. Tourism is prosperous, too.

Summer Floods: The rainy season is always uncooperative. However, new river infrastructure helps to stop some travel delays.

School Days: New school life of students means education becomes popular. Study abroad programs and academics are popular gossip.

"This meeting is highly irregular Reichtin, I have duties to the-"

"You have no duties Konhagen. My sister, your wife, handles anything of important you're just a signature and there's no one here to impress otherwise so please save us both the time."

"My what Konhagen? My head? My title? My Clan? I don't think any of those are yours to take. And furthermore there's no one who would let you or carry the order through," Cedrik looked over at a guard who bore the silver palm of Cedrik's Clan Mithredge reflected on the Reichtin's own tunic.

The King followed his gaze and let out a heavy sigh, "What do you want?"

"Prince Konrad is without a wife, my last wife bore me a daughter, Elizabet Mithredge, she shall be made Konrad's wife and you shall abdicate the throne in ten years time in favor of Konrad. You will then live a quiet and peaceful life of relaxation and luxury relieved of even the ceremonial duties you now carry except where appropriate. You will not mention this meeting and your official reason for stepping down will be to allow your son a chance to prosper as you have on the Stone Throne and that you might pursue the path of the faithful with greater observance."

"And if I don't" the King asked somewhat meekly.

"You shouldn't fill your heads with such thoughts Konhagen, they'll only make you lose sleep. Now go back to the Council, inform them I came with news from the colonization of Meiterdon and the desires of the Zheisi," Cedrik handed the King a thin stone tablet with the Dwarven runic language scribed onto its surface.

The King licked his lips and nodded, heading back to the Clan Chamber in quiet defeat.

We moved immediately to the neighboring valley and set up a covert tactical viewing team of two sky-leapers, armed with a looking-glass and flags. They relayed the position of the orc team to us, keeping the battlegroup well away from the enemy force. However, the orcs moved rather quickly, despite their lack of technological aid. Their leadership is good, and we marked down their use of raiding and auxiliary/scout unit tactics. This report is attached, and was also sent to Battlegroup 2.

Because of the speed of the orcs, neither sky-leapers could be recovered. Instead, their pterid was returned with semi-detailed notes on the armaments and leadership of the enemy forces, confirming that they are under the control of one Stormskull, and stand some 15,000 strong.

I recommend both men be given medals of valor for their action. All reports are attached as noted.

    Signed,
General Genevio, Commander of Guilderene Battlegroup 3.

    Spoiler: #2: The Waiting Game
    Show

Genevio glanced over the edge of the tower to see the army. Their encampments were easily within combat distance of each other, but neither army moved. Every now and again a berunda would blast its way over the top of the Sympol troops, dodging and rolling through the deadly Pavonian bolts arcing through the sky with them. And on the other side, Guilderene pickets would attempt to intercept the Sympol bird-riders, who usually used the eerie forests of the Clanships to escape.

Both sides were in a halt: orders had come from high up, and combat was forbidden. In fact, just a week before, Battlegroup 2 had been ordered to move back to Maos... They'd sent one terse message, reading simply:

Quote Originally Posted by Marching Orders, Battlegroup 2

That was the most recent thing they'd heard, and it wasn't really clear at all what was going on. Of course, there were orcs still working their way through the darkness which seemed to persist at midday.

Genevio growled. Their own torches didn't seem to work out here; they would post scouts far up on the towers of the Gelder ruins, but no matter how many torches they sent up, it seemed it wasn't enough. There were even reports from the spies that the Sympol were as scared as the Maians; no small feat. Mutterings of spirits floated everywhere in the camps.

Then, one night, the game changed. The armies of the Concordat had been camped out in the Twilight Forest, using its haunted name to keep out the Clanships armies, who were naturally rather afraid of going there. Thousands upon thousands of the Concordat camped out between the trees, using their branches for tent-poles and washing lines, fortification and repair.

Until one lonely night, that is.

Scouts on the ramparts of the Gelderene halls sent back reports of a low, persistent rumble, a sound like a thousand threshers beating at once. Genevio briefly considered sending a party out to investigate, but they had nearly run out of torches; and the only other option was the Twilight Forest: no option at all.

So they waited, breathlessly. He ordered his men, all 5,000, to stand to arms, battle-ready and in formation. They drew out the tubs of Hai Vyuma, armed the crossbows, sent aloft the riders, and roused the Trihorns. But still, no sound save the deep boom, barely audible, which reached across the wide plain to the ruins.

Then, in the morning, they saw.

The forest-camp of the Concordat was no more.

    The tents were there.

    The men were there.

There was no damage, no death, no blood.

But also? There were no trees. The plain was barren, utterly devoid of any life whatsoever.

But it was still in shadow. On each tent still hung the shadow of the dead, twisted tree it was once tied to, and the shadow even moved with the rare gust of wind stirring the sterile wilderness.

The next day, Genevio moved out, marched north. The Glazfell and Tzalteclanian soldiers watched silently as they marched against the top of the ridge, silhouetted and clear against the hazy sun. Both sides stared at each other, silent and stunned. What was this land they were sent to, and what demons possessed it? Guilder's Battlegroup 3 did not stay to find out, marching straight to the battle of Planinfrag.

    -Mourning our First Good Tyrant
Acting against the counsel of her Inquisition, Second Stone Good Tyrant Oluska announced earlier this year that her physical and mental condition had “fallen to an unacceptable low”. While “low” can rightly be said to be highly subjective, especially when comparing the capacities of Tyrant Oluska to that of a normal person, the bar of expectation for a Tyrant is beyond exceptional.

Several weeks of testimony was presented to the Tyrannic Parliament before the [Vote of No Confidence] was reluctantly cast. Though most had retired from public life, the entirety of Tyrant Oluska's original Tyrannic Cabinet, along with other trusted advisers took up defensive positions in the Tyrant's Audience Chamber. In an act of symbolic unity, they made a token effort to protect their Tyrant from her Death Sentence.

Rumors indicate Khoonbish the Inhuman was reluctant to fulfill her responsibility as Champion Heir in carrying the execution out. Tyrant Oluska is reported to have audibly scolded her for this. Our first Good Tyrant's final words are known only to Tyrant Khoonbish, as they were whispered to her in those final moments.

We can only hope that our new Tyrant makes a stronger showing of herself in the future, as she was seen to be openly sobbing when she publicly devoured Oluska Geriin's heart.

    ~WARNING! Imminent Geologic Event!~
The Professors of Geologic Studies at the University of Ryazen Bay have issued a disturbing report, The source of the tremors in and round New Crima have been identified and confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt. Extraordinary measures were required to verify the cause, due to its incredibility.

It seems the bedrock beneath New Crima is being steadily converted into cavorite. Even if the reaction could be stopped, the phenomena has already progressed beyond the threshold of consequence.

The tremors up to this point have been the result of underground caverns collapsing upward. The shadowy things living there have either been crushed, or apparently “evaporated” upon exposure to sunlight while fleeing their nests. There has also been significant damage to the region's sewer systems.

Villages, cities, and other settlements round New Crima's boarders are being evacuated closer to the Creehold or to the Daughter Land (Cridan). Unfortunately, while the effect is largely confined to our boarders, there's some concern that is extends some short distance into the Region of Tar; under the justification of A.Q.U.A..

The Tyranny of the Cree advises all nations that share a boarder with New Crima take action to prepare against the potentially unstable consequences of this anomaly.

    -Years of Medical Research Destroyed!
The Traitor 'Terbishy Stuyvesant' was recently discovered to have been falsifying details of his reports on state funded research. When the traitor's alarmingly immoral and highly lethal methods were exposed, he set fire to the laboratory in which he worked in an effort to hide the fullest extent of his shame.

Several of his former colleges perished in the flames. This has been a great wound for not only New Crima but the world at large. Stuyvesant had been the head of his department for a little over a decade, but the University at Ryanzen Bay has been conducting pharmaceutical research since 459cc. We have lost some of the greatest minds of our generation and scholarly secretes uncovered by decades of work have been lost, perhaps forever.

Efforts are being made to compensate the families of Stuyvesant's victims and the Tyrannical Inquisition has begun a worldwide manhunt for the Traitor.
It is expected he will be found and sentenced to public impalement within the year.

    -Vantalaan Mission Ends In Tragedy
Steady diplomatic efforts over the course of the last five years with Vantalaan ended abruptly this month, with the actions of one “Jarl” Lukas von Hauff. Negotiations had begun in regard to extended intergovernmental cooperation Vantalaan and the Tyranny when the so called Jarl extended his authority to banishing the diplomats from the Region entirely.

It seems he was unsatisfied by the standards of liberty the Cree are obliged to grant all our citizens. So much so that he evidently chose to take the additional measure of stripping our diplomats of their clothing and all other effects before forcing them to leave the country on foot. Thanks to our representative’s tenacity and ingenuity, they only lost some of their digits and extremities to the region's extreme cold.

Tyrant Khoonbish has promised “The only appropriate response...”

-There seems to have been some misunderstanding.
The Cree have been approached by multiple parties, questioning where we stand in relation to the brewing conflict between the Concordat of Frost and Flame and the Empire of Dawn. These persons are forgiven for this unintentional slight.

Know now that the Cree view the Act of War as a moral abomination. We do not make such declarations lightly. Should we be provoked to violence, should we be forced to deploy our armies, we are shall be committed to walking a path of absolute evil. Should any party declare themselves our enemy through act of war, nothing short of the total destruction of hope will satisfy us. Any war in which the Cree participate will not end until the living are made to envy the dead.

At this time, neither the Empire of Dawn, who have proven themselves friends and profitable trade partners, nor the Concordat of Frost and Flame, with whom we've had limited contact, has earned such hatred from us.

The Cree are not fond of secrets. We have forged an Inquisition to be a Nemesis of all things that work in shadow. The signs of our wrath are distinct and without subtlety.

If you doubt our sincerity, know now that the newly discovered country of Vantalaan has chosen to mutilate the diplomats we have sent them. If you wish to know how the Cree conduct war, then watch for the inferno and listen for the wails of the damned.

Know that while we aspire to the prosperity of peace, in war we strive only for desolation.

I beg you please not attempt to provoke or seduce us to render unto anyone else that same fate.

A letter is sent out to Empress Myrida Serendel of the Empire of Dawn:
Empress Myrida Serendel of the Empire of Dawn,

For many years now, the nation of Guilder, variously through action or failure to act, has caused the Imperium much grief.
    - After long-standing trade between our nations, they aided in war against the Imperium.
    - Their ships smuggled foreign soldiers through the Strait of Diyu to fight in a war at the other end of the world.
    - Their former Doge, and first wife to the current one, used advanced technology designed for war to attack the peaceful celebration of the coronation of King Ji Caercia of the Caercian Consortium.
    - Promises to make restitution for the above transgressions have not been followed through within the time limits set by the Doge himself.
    - Evidence points to Guilder’s involvement in the murders of forty of my close relatives, including many of my own children.
    - Using foreign forces to start a proxy war on those who called themselves Guilder's allies no more than a few years prior.

To these grievances you have now added your own. By blocking the trade of the Concordat of Frost and Flame, the Imperium is no longer receiving several resources vital for various population groups within the Imperium.

Therefore, I, Qzare Li Gun Huang Jarrow, Lord Protector of the Imperium, do hereby make the following demands:
    - That you cease the blockade of ALL trade of members of the Salterri Imperium with members of the Concordat of Frost and Flame.
    - That the Doge Vizini steps down within the year in favour of his son Wesley, for whom we shall find a bride appropriate to his station and wealth, so that the rise of another Buttercup may be prevented.
    - That the restitution that the Imperium was promised commences immediately.

If you do not comply with these demands, we shall see your neglect and your indirect causation of the suffering of Imperial citizens as a declaration of war, with all results that that implies.

May silver be upon your soul,

    Qzare Li Gun Huang Jarrow

The following letter is sent to every leader of every nation on Telluris known to Celero.
    To members of all nations;

The Kingdom of Celero offers safe haven for any and all refugees from the war between the Concordat and the Empire of the Dawn. Be it known, that no armed force will be permitted to traverse our sovereign borders without the express written permission of the Queen of Celero, Vera Amalia Noth.

In light of this, the Queen of Celero petitions all affected nations for unrestricted movement of humanitarian aid by Celero's aid workers. Sovereign borders shall be respected by all troops flying under the banner of Celero. Ships of non-military ships of the Seaborne Confederation and the Free Alliance of Trading Ships will provide transport for those wishing to escape the conflict. These ships will be bound for the Celero and Propinlonge home ports, where refugees will be welcome to stay for the duration of the war. Permanent immigration to Celero will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

A lack of a reply will be understood that your kingdom does not grant permission for non-combatant Celero troops to enter your borders.

    Signed,
Queen Regent Vera Amalia of House Noth,
    Quenchers of Fire,
    Justice in all Things
