Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
I'm sorry to have caused you so much pain by using the wrong word, Golentan.
Back to my actual question, did I factually err in addition to semantically given that you understood the context of what was being said from the progenitor comment?

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
@Marriage: I take it just getting married at the courthouse isn't an option for most of you people? All three of my older siblings did that, as did my parents. Then you could arrange whatever party you want to hold afterwards as you like it. Heck, one of my sisters and her husband decided to get married 6 months before their original plan so they could get tax breaks. Very romantic, that.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
I'll probably get married in a civil ceremony, somewhere that has a license. And sure, you can have a quiet civil ceremony, and then a party, but I love traditions and I'm fond of my Irish culture, so the question becomes how best to combine traditions that I find nice, like asking close friends to dress in matching outfits and be part of this important ceremony, while trying to make the whole thing less gendered.
In other news, a FtM talks about re-entering the workplace with a new gender identity.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
As far as the legal part of marriage is concerned, there's no reason why I couldn't do that. I do want to have the whole ceremony thing though - probably a paganish kind of one, but I may end up having to decide the exact nature with my partner (provided I ever find someone I want to marry). Basically if the person we want to perform the marriage ceremony isn't qualified to make it legally binding then we'll get the legal part done at the courthouse (if we even care about the legal part).
Neat article.
I wonder what the protocol for trying to use a nonstandard pronoun at a job is? I've always figured it would be "don't do it, it sounds too unprofessional."

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
I've not read the article yet but my advice on your question would probably be:
Spoiler
"Don't do it, it sounds too unprofessional" unfortunately generally is a good rule of thumb. Do you mind me asking what field you work in and what sort of position you hold? Certain "creative" work places probably would have no problem whatever with this, although it's generally unlikely to be in line with policy to ask clients or customers to use xe/xyr etc. in reference to you as clients and customers are "always right" even if they're awful. With colleagues it may or may not be worth thinking about in more depth. My tentative suggestion would be to start with describing yourself as a tomboy if they use female pronouns for you now or describing yourself as "not afraid to be in touch with your feminine side" if they use male pronouns and maybe try to have a conversation around that. Those are easy "ins" to the topic of gender roles and you can usually gauge a person's general opinion on gender roles from a relatively short conversation. It's something I'd be very cautious about in the workplace though because the world isn't as fair as it should be and nobody wants to be on bad terms with people they work with on a day to day basis.
I'm guessing from your avatar that you drew that yourself. If so, you're awesome too. If you found it online and are just holding it up to show us, you're still awesome but I'm a tiny bit disappointed.
But how come the post doesn't circumvent the character limit rule? I assumed it was an automatic thing?
ETA: Ninja'd somewhat by Unosarta and AThousandWords him/her/other pronoun/self. AThousandWords: you are apparently first degree awesome. Congratulations.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
Why is there no "oooh!" emoticon to express awe? That's a boss gimmick but if I decided to switch to it I'd never post (which I'm sure some people could come to terms with ) I love drawing and comics but I self edit too much to be able to do that... sigh.
This is the way I thought it should be. I just always assumed the character limit was one of the measures to keep Bots out. The more you know... Also, the more I think about it, the less effective that hypothetical automated precaution would be :smallresigned:

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
Gorramit, would you people stop leaving pages of posts that I don't have time to read?
Meh, I'm away from my computer because of finals, but I wanted to check in and make sure everything is okay. PM me if anyone needs hugs or something.
...What is the deal with the ponies, anyway?

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
I am so glad to be in your cult, AThousandWords.
Actually, Serpentine (er, Slurpintime?) PMed me and was like, "HERE, HAVE A PONY" and I was like "AWESOME."
Mostly because it was seriously awesome.
I will be going back to my old avatar after a while. But I really love this one as well. I might end up switching them every so often.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
They're adorable and from a show just as adorable and filled with fun!
Or if you go waaaay back, from a show I know absolutely nothing about. Or even longer back it's just small horseys, which is also adorable. :3
I should really get a ponyatar...
Probably purple, and pink! Because purple-pink is awesome. ^_^Treasured Quotes

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
I had a couple of My Little Pony toys growing up...
I also seem to remember the old show being rather interesting/epic at times, but I hardly remember any specific details. I recall something vague about magic and somebody going on a quest to find a way to restore some sort of vanishing mystic power....

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
I know mine are still around back at my mum's... I should get my stuffed animals out here with me. Shame I can't remember what I called either of the ponies... actually, I think I've forgotten most of their names...
At least I've still got Scarlet and Nyarthlotep with me. And yes, it is that Nyarthlotep.

Re: LGBTAitp - Part Thirteen
Due to the arrival of AThousandWords, I've realised I think of threads as our avatars talking to one another, and AThousandWords as silent.
That rainbow pony is FANtastic!
