SMBC: It's great!
Has anyone read SMBC? Isn't it great? I love the votey (small button extra panel). Just keep clicking random, and keep getting something funny.

Re: SMBC: It's great!
You are not alone.
(I read through the whole archives, and got my brother hooked on them, and only found out about the extra panels when he told me.)
EDIT: The very-searchable archives are great.Last edited by Kane; 2010-08-16 at 09:07 PM.

Re: SMBC: It's great!
I've been reading it for a short while, but IMO the good stuff is too far between and the gaps are filled with too much crap

Re: SMBC: It's great!
Zach makes too many **** jokes (and he knows that he does) but I find it to be better than a certain stick figure comic about which he seems to have an inferiority complex. Also he updates very frequently so even if one is bad you can try again the next day.
I don't actually play D&D. I do play:
Magic: the Gathering Online (with FREE tournaments at Gatherling)
DC Universe, my surprisingly good CoH replacement
Planetside 2, MMO-meets-FPS (and the first shooter I've liked in ages).
Simunomics - a massive multiplayer Business Simulation Game. Browser-based, free to play.

Re: SMBC: It's great!
I stopped reading it a while back. While he had some genuinely funny ones on there, he builds too many strawman arguments against religion.

Meh, that comic is basically hit or miss for me (and a lot of it I find to be miss).

Re: SMBC: It's great!
SMBC is rather polarizing. I find it strange when people don't love it like I do.

Re: SMBC: It's great!
One of my favorite comics right now.
“Sometimes, immersed in his books, there would come to him
the awareness of all that he did not know, of all that he had not read;
and the serenity for which he labored was shattered as he realized the
little time he had in life to read so much, to learn what he had to know.”

Re: SMBC: It's great!
Heh heh. The other tab I had open when I found this thread was the SMBC site, where I was just clicking random repeatedly, not even kidding.
I love the comic. It's pretty much the only comic where I don't mind the baser nature of some of the jokes - don't know why this one is different for me, it just is.
I love most of those. I don't really think most, if any at all, are strawmen arguments, although of course there are a lot and I don't remember them all. Most of them just poke fun at some of the more ridiculous aspects. And it's not like he doesn't make fun of everyone else, too.Last edited by Helanna; 2010-10-06 at 10:56 PM.

I really like the ones like this. Or other ones that show some of the peculiarities of certain disciplines.

Ya... Hes got fantastic stuff.
I discovered him a few months ago and was hooked.
Some of the best writing I have seen in a comic.

Re: SMBC: It's great!
He might be referring to comics like this, but those are pretty rare. It's more common that the comic will present God as immature or otherwise incompetent, but I can't really take those seriously enough to be offended.

Re: SMBC: It's great!
Yeah, I've always just taken those as jokes, not strawman arguments. I know there are a couple more that I haven't been able to find that just point out some of the ridiculousness of religion in general, but not in a mean-spirited way, just as jokes.
But to each their own, I guess. If you don't like the religion jokes, then that's your own preference.Last edited by Helanna; 2010-10-09 at 02:38 PM.

Re: SMBC: It's great!
Ahhh, SMBC, one of the first webcomics I read. Also the first one I ever killed from my linklist, because the punchline of too many comics were "I killed a baby" or something like that. I think that was in 2007. It seems like I missed a lot of good stuff after that.

Re: SMBC: It's great!
Erm... There's a lack of research for This Strip. The "Dead Husband in Heaven" problem is actually addressed in the Bible. Unless that was the point of the joke.

Re: SMBC: It's great!
I'd say it's addressed in the marriage vows. You know, the "till death does us part" formula. Based on that, all earthly marital relationships are contractually void in Heaven. I guess you can remarry there?
