What's wrong with animated avatars? The original Pogatar is only 13.13 KB, well withing the size restrictions. Hell, my current avatar is larger than it.

Any images in a spoiler may not exceed 300 pixels high by 468 pixels wide.

Last time I checked 278 high by 350 wide is allowed in a spoiler.

Well, I don't get the image height limit, and everything else is fine in my sig(12 lines exactly, I think!), so I'll just take it as it comes. If it isn't how it can be, I'll change it, but I do want to keep the trophies in my sig for a while....

@Ego: The 120 pixel limit is for "exposed" images, or images not in spoilers. The 300 pixel limit is for images in spoilers. The ban on animated images includes images in spoilers.

Not sure if I read the rules right, but here's my updated Avatar and Sig. I decided to go back an avatar to the one Sneak made for me on a temporary basis till I come up with a new idea for my Avatar. I'm kinda miffed that I can't keep the Midnight Ashildr out of the spoiler, but I'm not gonna resize it.

Is the ban on animated images due to file size, or merely due to animation? If it's due to file size, perhaps a rule explicitly limiting file size (and ignoring animation) would be in order.

But this announcement doesn't mention that at all. I fail to see the relation.

Anyway, for those in doubt of what the signature limits look like, take a look at mod Rawhide's sig. It's exactly that. Even down to pixel count. Heh, it's as if they had taken his signature and based on it for defining the new rules :p

Then, within the spoiler, does the 300 pixel height limit also count for text in it, being the total possible height of the spoilered part? Or you can have a compliant 300 x 468 pixel image and then all the text you want (say, not a short story)?

I think this is because 117 was the standard size (the only avatar size?) until the server move, so, the fact that we can use avatars 3x3 pixels larger is a bit of a... bonus?

And, why would they give us 480 when they can get away with 468?

Or maybe there is page stretching if it's any wider? I wouldn't know.

I'm fine with them except that I can't use the animated image which, not that I can recall, hadn't left my sig since the day I got it.

Yea! I LIKE these new rules. Now, maybe, I'll even consider turning viewing-signatures back on (I turned them off in my settings because they were so annoying...)

Actually, the initial proposal was to have the signature width be 450px, same limit we currently have for images in posts. I would have had to shrink my signature images. Instead, we deemed it more logical to allow 4 avatars wide be posted, the limit for images in posts will be extended to 468. The Giant's image is exactly 120px high by 468px wide.


As for my signature conforming? It didn't, I had to cut a line of text to make it fit. I thought it would be better if I set an example by conforming immediately.
