If we're going to be suggesting maps again, then I'd say
ctf_Landfall.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
That looks nice :D I'd enjoy trying it.
As to those wondering about OPness of Demo or Pyro... Actually, not really. Snipers do surprisingly well, because there are a few decent sightlines from the sniper's loft and from the final point (aka Radio shack)'s roof. Soldiers too, since they tend to climb fast. Spies do just fine, since there are a lot of places to duck down...
If I actually had to say anyone really got a hell of a good time, it'd be Heavy; I always remember heavies on that map.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
Now that map loading is so fast, I'm finally willing to recommend my favorite custom map, CTF Aerospace.
It's a huge download, so I didn't feel right about trying to get it added until now."I don't approve of society, so I try not to participate in it."

Would just like to note that "cut419ram" is either a bad scammer or has had his account jacked. Tried the 9hz steam scam.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
I swear, every time I go away for a weekend there's an update...
Updating the server is the one thing I find less efficient on the new one than the old one. The old one would echo everything to screen so you knew it was working. The new one just does some stuff in the background and you kind of have to guess when it's done.
Anyway, should be okay now. Give it a try.I write a gaming blog. It also hosts my gaming downloads:
Fatescape - FATE-based D&D emulator, for when you want D&D flavour but not D&D complexity.
Exalted Mass Combat Rules - Because the ones in the core book suck.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
So I was on the server significantly earlier than I usually am, and I encountered a guy who was saying some not very nice things. He started by merely dissing the opposing team, after which I told him that if he wanted to verbally degrade other players, he should find another server. He asked if I was a 12-year-old boy or a girl, to which I answered the latter. He said 'I don't get told what to do by girls'. After that attempted zinger, he shut up, so I let it go.
He went on to single out players on both teams that he thought were particularly lacking in skill. I warned him that I would find an admin if he continued. He did, and I couldn't find an admin.
I didn't remember how to get SteamIDs, but I found his community page via the Add Recently Played With Players To Friends List thing.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
Yeah, he comes to the server every so often, but so far he's been within the rules. But verbal abuse against other players is not tolerated, especially if he was warned that an admin would be called and he continued to do it.

Personally I'd have given him the boot at "I don't get told what to do by girls", but it would have been funnier if Blackfox had done it.

And you know she would have. Sexual harassment isn't right and I know she hates it.
on a lighter note, look at what I stayed up making last night.
Yes kpenguin, I totally used the your avatars as a foundation for how I wanted them to look. Hope it doesn't bother you. This was the first picture I have ever made in inkscape and the program crashed on me 3 times. The first time I hadn't saved. Learned that mistake really fast.Last edited by Flechair; 2010-07-02 at 01:25 PM.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
Well, if you play it, you'll see. To describe it, though...
If you know the map from L4d1, this will make a lot more sense. Blue spawns near the Elevator shaft, and has two exits from spawn (from the literal spawn; each individual side has several directions AFTER that before you're likely to encounter red. If you exit out the elevator side, and get to the top of the roof, there is something of a hunter's loft (ie four legs, ladder, glassed off observation box) with destructable glass. From up there, you have a decent view of where Red's spawn is (not the actual spawn, but that direction). They almost always walk in front of you, and you have a height advantage. You can also snipe point B, and point A somewhat. After B is capped, it blows up, and an endless cloud of smoke blocks the view from up there, to prevent sniper spam on the final point (which up 'till then, you can see).
From the red side, the final point is in the building with the radio you'd have to hit in order to trigger the finale. Climbing to the top of that building (or the associated connected buildings) provides a variety of angles. You can effectively countersnipe said blue snipers if you have better aim, and you can guard the center of the map pretty well.
Probably most the important part of all; all four spawnexits (2 red, 2 blue) can be sniped pretty well if you infiltrate to certain points (pretty far into enemy territory, basically). If you can defend yourself, you can get there, and probably gain a point capture through sheer deterrence of a spawn point, or by forcing others to go spy after your ass, etc

9hz.com is a site that redirects you to other sites that often will phish for your information or other nasty stuff.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
Technically, 9hz.com is a redirect site like tinyurl.com.
The problem comes from stuff like this. The basics are (if you don't want to read the steam posting there) someone sends you a link through chat that looks like another steam account url. You click it and then it sends you somewhere NOT steam affiliated. Probably to get a trojan or something like it.If you want a OotS style Touhou avatar, send me a request.

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
this 'I don't get told what to do by girls' is one example of sexual harrassment according to current US Law. Sexual harrassment is singling someone out and harrassing them based on their gender. Say this at a job and you'll instantly regret it. (Fired or required additional training.)

Re: GitP/ChHa Server Thread IV: For Science. You Monster.
People seemed to like this better, but only marginally so - the way one might prefer to be stabbed than shot. Optimally, one isn't stabbed or shot. Optimally, one eats some cake! But there are times when cake is not available, and instead we are destroyed. This is the deep poetry of the universe. -- Tycho Brahe

I always imagined Shaft to be... ehh... what's the word.
More complicated. It always amazes me how often people on forums would rather accuse you of misreading their posts with malice than re-explain their ideas with clarity.
