Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
You know I bet the straight male spiders envy the gay male spiders since they donīt have risk their lives when trying to have sex.... and now my mind is trying and failing (thank god) to create an image of two male spiders trying to figure out how to have sex.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
Spiders are fascinating and useful little creatures.
They're also immensely creepy. They scare me a lot. They don't react rationally, and they scare me so much I want them dead. But I'm so terrified all I can do is run away shrieking like a little girl or wait for someone else to do the brave thing. Now, they freak me out, they definitely are a phobia of mine, but that doesn't mean my reaction is justified, or even logical.
... I'm sure I was getting somewhere with this.
Wait, wait, I remember.
There is no way two people kissing or holding hands can freak you out as much as a horrible arachnid crawling in your direction. Seriously.
Phobias are also largely irrational.
And you have no right to call people disgusting just because they do in public what you would do (loving a consenting adult or person in the same age range, holding hands with their significant other, kissing, whatever else considerate couples do publicly).
Now, spiders are disgusting. But that's because they're spiders. Very different species, very different life, very unlikely to be sentient, and absolutely no concept of empathy. Y'know. Not people.
@pffh: that is a horrifying image.
As terrifying as any other image of spiders mating.
Or plain spiders.

Phobias aren't rational, but there might be a reason for them. For example, I'm scared to rollercoasters. There is a reason for this. I have dyspraxia and I retained a morrow reflex, meaning when I went on rollercoasters, I built up too much adreniline and freaked out.
But homophobia isn't really a phobia, I think. Has it ever been proved to be on and have the signs of a phobia? Like triggering flight or fight?

As far as I know though, I have no reason to be afraid of spiders. Didn't get attacked by one, I don't even think I ever let a scary one crawl on me. It's just an instinctive thing.
The worst part is that I genuinely find spiders fascinating, love learning more about them, and can even stand looking at specific, funny-looking specimens... but they freak the hell out of me. I love plenty of animals that are way more dangerous! THE MIND BOGGLES.
But homophobia isn't really a phobia, I think. Has it ever been proved to be on and have the signs of a phobia? Like triggering flight or fight?
I wonder now if there's a rule 34 that applies to phobias; as in, "if it exists, someone, somewhere, at some point in time, is or was afraid of it".Originally Posted by on Dwarf Fortress succession gamesOriginally Posted by Dwarf Fortress 0.40.01 bugs

*Hugs Zampanó*
I think sexual prejudice (and/or sexual harassment, which probably should include that sort of thing if it doesn't already) is a good term.
I wonder what a sandwich of us (metaphorically speaking, of course) would taste like... @_@
Oh, and *welcome-glomp*.
That explains where you went. *Glomps*
I'll hug you (anything larger than a Doberman would fall under "otherworldly horror" - I'm much more comfortable around those).
I'm so weird about arthropods. They don't really bother me at all unless I can actually see them near me, but if I do I absolutely hate them. Could be the breeding rate, the threat of bites and/or the fear of necrotic venom. Or memories of those damn ladybugs infesting my house in my youth. :nervous arm-scratch:
I love 'em in theory, though. They're like little semi-sentient machines. They're all hyper-efficient and yet amazingly complicated. ^_^
... And I like to imagine what having a 10-foot praying mantis for a pet would be like. >:D
I'm pretty sure that no, it doesn't. Maybe there are people who suffer such fears, but that would be extremely rare and unfortunate.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
I don't understand what's so scary about me. Well nevermind... I don't understand what's so scary about if I was holding hands with a significant other. I mean if you were afraid of it, you'd be cowering in fear and not looking upon me with disgust. And isn't the definition of a phobia an irrational fear?
Also this reminds me, so I was asked out by this guy and I accidentally said yes. How? Well, I was expecting to see a bad movie with a friend to laugh at the horrible/overdone acting/plot. But I am gonna take him up on his offer, I kinda do like him and he is cute and nice. So yeah. Happy me I guess. He is considerably taller than me. I'm 5'5" and I think he's 6'2"

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
There's also the aspect that homophobia doesn't really denote fear/aversion/hatred of individual homosexual people, but of homosexuality in general. If one did insist on the "phobia = fear" bit of the word homophobia, then it would not indicate that one will be terrified of their gay neighbour, but that they fear, say, the "gay agenda", homosexuality as a sin dragging humanity down to Hell, a cultural taint, and so on. It's moot, because that isn't what the word homophobia refers to, but it does make the argument that it's an invalid word extra-baseless.

Re: LGBTAitP - Part 22: The Best There Is
There was a point where I was irrationally afraid of male on male sex. My friend Kyii didn't bother me, his stories didn't bother me, even seeing him neck someone didn't bother me. Thinking it through to the logical conclusion however made my skin crawl about as much as thinking of Jerusalem crickets does.
After getting funny looks for 'technical homophobia' I settled on androhomosexuophobia, and hoped no one ever asked for a break-down...
I suppose this is just arguing semantics after all.
Avacado!
It is derogatory for American Irish, calling them solely by the 'Mc' implied to be attached to their surname. It is along the lines of being a lowly ginger, or such. Not really an insult, but the tone tells you all you need to hear.
I have heard people who were clearly just intolerant say "It's a phobia, I can't help that I hate those disgusting gays. They just freak me out like spiders freak some people out."
hello, and congratulations. And hugs!Last edited by SiuiS; 2012-04-09 at 07:11 PM.

No rambling for you!
Good to hear that things got better. *Hugs, extended to include welcome *
I'm a 19-year-old pan/bisexual transwoman. I've known my sexuality since I was 16, but I've only been fully aware of my gender for a couple of months now. Oh, how confusing the sunburn-like itch of having body hair was to me before! D=
You're fun to talk to. ^_^

Good point.

I think I'm gonna sig this as well as the thing about maturity that Holetan posted in response to my reaction to his "wood" joke.
So do I. It's supermegafoxyawesomehot... And so my celebrity crush on Darren Criss continues... I'm currently watching Little White Lie.
