Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
OK, we're promised a full strip and a text update every week. Seems to me Rob chose that update frequency as being something achievable (unlike the three strips a week Erfworld started out as at the beginning of Book 1!), so let's see if he manages it.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
Why am I finding the text updates more fun than the comic?
SpoilerInteresting tidbits of info in this one. There apparently had been other bubble kingdons before Faq. And still could be others out there. It almost sounds like they suspect that Wanda might be their doom?

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
Because the comics, at this point, are entirely devoted to wrapping up plotlines started months, if not years ago, while the text updates are entirely new.
SpoilerAnd I highly doubt they know about Wanda yet, not from a tactical standpoint, if Marie doesn't tell them in the next text update.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
Because you get WAY more information and character in a single text update than you do get from a single page of the comic... I mean to translate this text update to comic pages would probably mean like making about a half-dozen comic pages or so... seriously, if Rob only put as much intro in the text update as he would put into a comic page, the text updates would probably only be a couple of paragraphs long and not like 2-3 pages.
Not to mention the comic is in the middle of an action sequence so their isn't as much intrigue right now

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
SpoilerNot with the effects in that last panel. His head and torso have already turned to dust, and he's got an acronym sound effect that google tells me means "good night sweet prince". He's dead again, and this time there's no corpse to make decryption even possible.
Looks like we just got proof that a turned decrypted is still decrypted, btw - that turn-to-dust death effect is specific to decrypted.Like 4X (aka Civilization-like) gaming? Know programming? Interested in game development? Take a look.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
Well, both Stanley and Jillian has plenty leadership. But maybe not all rulers have leadership. King Slately is probably low level anyway, having sat on his butt for hundreds of turns.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
There really is no way to be sure... we do know that he has never taken part in battle during his long reign as king, but that says nothing about his life before taking the throne... Also his appearance is a result of signamancy which has changed him over time to reflect his lifestyle (we don't know what he looked like when first popped); however, unless a unit also looses levels by being lazy, his appearance may not reflect his level and bonus. Not to mention he may get additional bonus for being a ruler.
Though if i recall, i think some units reacted with skepticism over him leading a fight, and if that's right then that would imply that he does not have a very effective bonus... though i'm not sure if such has happened.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
Of all the fields of Erfworld's magic, Predicatamancy is the one I loathe more...
maybe it's because of predictamancers.Last edited by Killer Angel; 2012-07-02 at 06:32 AM.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
We have seen only two predictamancers so far. And I tend to like Marie for some reason. I know she is playing (long term) games, but I think she truely wants the best thing to happen.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
No, I think it's because of Fate. Specifically, the fact that it's real and works despite any efforts to change it.
What I think might change your opinion, which we have yet to see, is a side with a powerful predictamancer, some major Fate involvement, and a ruler who truly believes in it all and works specifically to get the best outcome possible within the Fate constraints available.
FAQ has at least some of that going for it, but it seems so far like King Banhammer is more resigned to the inevitable and putting up a minimal effort rather than trying to push the boundaries. This may be better than Wanda's outright defiance of Fate (which just made the method of fulfillment worse), but it's still far short of Predictamancy's potential for positive use. This story clearly still has some twists and turns to go before its end - Wanda still has to end up in FAQ for a while, among other things - so it might morph into that kind of story. I'm worried that it'll turn into another "defy Fate and just make it worse" story, though.Like 4X (aka Civilization-like) gaming? Know programming? Interested in game development? Take a look.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
Funny, I don't like Marie at all. Maybe it's something to do with the fact that she's responsible for the fall of her side, by telling Wanda she would attune to an Arkentool. That is directly linked to Wanda telling Stanley about Faq, which leads to the Jillian subplot in Book 1 and the summer updates.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
Oh and Stanley didn't have any responsibility for the fall of Faq? Or Banhammer? It's easy to toss blame around. It's much harder to put the blame where it belongs rather than where you *want* it to be. It was Fated that Faq was going to fall. Marie just told everyone about it.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
I'm wondering… it nows seems clear that Wanda was fated to cause the fall of FAQ. And we know that Marie told Wanda of many of her predictions, and that Wanda doesn't like trying to defy fate.
What if the only reason she betrayed FAQ was because she knew it was her fate to bring them down?

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
She didn't betray Faq, she was under the impression that Stanley was a moron and would end up croaked.
Man this thing was full of outdated stuff.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
Well this is getting interesting. So, the plan camewith two major parts. One of which was that when the fall came as many of the FAQ casters as possible were to evacuate to the MK (as we know Marie did), and those who could not would surrender toe the conquering side (as Jack and Wanda did).
The other half of the plan: Jillian would find and conquer a isolated barbarian capital where the kingdom could be re-instuted under her rule. Well guess what - she's now done that! It's ironic perhaps that the isolated capital was FAQ's itself, but nevertheless it's in line with the [casters] original plans.
Perhaps this is what the conspiracy in the MK has been about all along, and Parson (and GK) are merely their tools to being able to return "home." If so, they don't (and wouldn't) give a fig about a militaristic power like Jetstone any more then they would about GK. Just another tool.
BUT if it now looks like Parson/GK is getting too strong - strong enough to pose a danger to New FAQ, then that would explain why "Sagan" is telling Marie "the plan's gone wrong already."Last edited by ChowGuy; 2012-07-02 at 07:37 PM.

Re: Erfworld, The Thread.
What I'm wondering at the moment is how Wanda ends up at Faq anyway, given she's currently working for Haffaton. The only thing that occurs to me is that Jillian's plan is carried out and succeeds, so Faq take out Haffaton and thus "inherit" their casters. I think Marie is misinterpreting her prediction; she's obviously now realised that Wanda is going to be Faq's downfall, but assumes this will happen while she's still "employed" by Haffaton.
