Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
I don't understand you. It seems fairly, even entirely, clear. The troglodytes are presumably clerics as we actually watch them resurrect the Oracle, and they have a higher-level boss, who wasn't there. The boss may not be able to resurrect - who knows? In any case, why not send other people to do scheduled resurrections rather than go yourself. Why wouldn't it be like this? Especially when it's the only thing that the Oracle's statement can possibly mean.
The Oracle knows the boss as he himself is high level and also a lizard species.
The only reason I don't assume that he means Tiamat is that I somehow believe that he would have said 'our boss' instead.Caractacus

Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
Re: the "boss": Rich would not produce two lizardfolk capable of producing 5th level spells from the ether. The strip was obviously forshadowing. The Oracle could just as easily say that he hires these two himself. They could be working for him to ensure his survival. Why would Rich put in a line about a "boss" if they were not going to show up again. Rich would never do something like that. This must be forshadowing.

Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
All right Fujin, time to give you some proof:
Do you know how few Wizards make it past 10th level? But the wizard who teleported the cleric was at least 9th and probably higher. Also do you know how many Lizardfolk have played a distinctive role in OOTS. Zero. Obviously, Rich wanted to make them distinct so that we would remember them. Next up there is the line. It would work if the oracle did not say anything as the lizardfolk left. But he did not, he mentioned a boss. This as I have said is forshadowing. Remember, in the same sequence, he mentioned the "important guest flying in". That certainly wasn't important to the plot (sarcasm). Also Rich says that the Oracle is part of a side which is not in the rest of the big poster. The lizardfolk are members of this side too. Finally, there is the fact that Roy was there. He bypassed the memory charm and that is the one important thing that happened (he was going to remember the Oracles Prophecy anyway and Belkers Oracle killing has not made a big splash). Rich made Roy bypass the charm so he could remember the lizard folk.

Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
I love the certainty expressed here. The fun part is that Sunken Valley PM'd me to come back him up on this thread, and he is totally and utterly wrong.
The lizardfolk details are world-building, not foreshadowing. It's the first clue that in part of this world (the part that the Oracle hails from), lizardfolk can be civilized businesspeople engaged in long-term contracts, as opposed to most D&D worlds where they run around in swamps with crude spears. It's a sneak peak at what the Western Continent will look like when we get there: half human, half reptilian. That's it.
The Oracle says, "Say hello to your boss for me," because it's small talk, and he's being friendly. Given that the Oracle is usually a jackass, this in turn reveals something about his personality: He is friendly and jovial to fellow reptilians, but not to mammals.
In other words, Conservation of Detail is overrated.Rich Burlew

Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
At first I was like but then I realised, "the giant replied to me" .
Contrary to popular belief, I did not ask the Giant for backup. I asked him if any of the unresolved plot points were false and were not worth bothering with. He has answered this. I will be removing that plot point shortly. However, it also means that, until he says otherwise, Fyron's vanishing son, Roy's mission for his archon and the Lizardfolk ambassador's urgent information for the empress are all coming up again. I think.

Wait, when did we get that?
Um, why wouldn't he? I didn't even see that as so much as worldbuilding, but more of a joke. As a wise man once said, "Sometimes, a cigar is just a cigar."
Wait, what were your exact words? Because I get the feeling they got misinterpreted...Avatar courtesy azuyomi244.

Couple of years ago? He said that the purpose of Elan's prophesy was to reassure the readers that, yes, the comic wasn't going to end with the world being destroyed.
The purpose of Durkon's was to convay that, no, it wasn't going to be happy fun time through the comic, characters -would- die.Official Incense Aroma Specialist for the Vaarsuvius Fan Club!

Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
The Giant has said that he will never reveal V's gender. therefore it is not going to be a plot point, and there is definitely no call for it being in the big two section.

Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
Where? Because you can't use the FAQ as knowledge. It is outdated and mods recommend that you disregard it.
Besides it's too big a secret not to reveal. I'm betting that at least some of the plot points will be secrets like the one that titania told fox in Gargoyles, stuff that Rich will only reveal if enough people ask him.

Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
I disagree. At the same moment we find out Vaarsuvius' gender, it ceases to be interesting. Revealing it would just give us a temporary feeling of "Oh!" or "Oh.", in exchange for sitting and being irritated that Vaarsuvius gender is discussed so often in reread, when we now the answer and it doesn't make one ounce of a difference.

Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
I guess what I should have said was, where did we get that?
Rich isn't that Greg guy. If anything, being pestered to reveal something makes him less likely to reveal it.
Although Rich did say he wouldn't reveal the truth in a joking manner, that FAQ entry does seem to indicate that he had no intention to reveal V's gender, which suggests it isn't strictly necessary (or at least Rich didn't see it as such, and I don't see any evidence that's made it any more necessary, or that the answer would in any way affect the story). The FAQ being outdated doesn't mean every single scrap of info from it is completely useless, especially if it would involve Rich actually changing his mind and us having no evidence that he's done so.
Besides, I think the commentary for either book 3 or 4 may contain suggestions he hasn't changed his mind about this, though I may be wrong and I'm not sure about the details in any case.Avatar courtesy azuyomi244.

Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
Considering that we've already covered "which restroom" jokes, seen V's mate and kids, etc. I think we're in a situation where anything that would make V's gender plot-relevant has already been addressed.

Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
Here's an unresolved plot point:
SpoilerHaley's secret, as seen in her decrypted cryptograms in War and XPs: "I'm not exactly what you'd call..."
Which may have something to do with a point someone brought up in this thread earlier:
SpoilerHow is Sabine Haley's evil opposite?

Does this "Evil chalice" count as an unresolved plot point? I think it could very well contribute in some manners
To what statement did she reply this?Last edited by M.A.D; 2011-08-24 at 05:33 PM.

Re: Unresolved plot point collection thread
You don't need to spoiler those. Haley's translations can be found online. On this forum. For those like MAD who are not in the know it is here, second last panel, the super big secret which V does not know. It is not the following: her love for Elan, her abscondment from the thieves guild, her fathers imprisonment by an evil dictator, her cheating at solitaire, her tatoo or her history of kissing girls. It is already on the main list.
As for Sabine and Haley being opposites in a secret way, I think it's the fact that Haley and Elan's relationship gets stronger as the story progresses at the same Sabine and Nale's relationship weakens. Because that was one detail Rich had always planned which had not been explored fully in DCF, Haley's love for Elan. When Haley and Elan do their first kiss, Nale and Sabine have their first major spat. Now Haley and Elan's relationship is super strong, while Sabine playtested grapple rules with Elan. I bet strong money that Rich is planning (and has planned from the beginning) Sabine betraying Nale to her fiendish overlords.
@MAD: The Evil Chalice might come up, but it sounds a lot more like a one-off line than anything else on the list. Plus the only thing it highlights is that Quarr had nothing to offer V.
