Dying because of contrived medical incompetence doesn't really make it better, though. Especially when it means that not only were they incompetent, but also, y'know, overtly lying, which, y'know, if we're supposed to actually embrace the idea that droids are an oppressed underclass that are looking for any way they can to get back at their meatbag overlords, sure... Otherwise not so much.

Well the Droid's aren't lying, as much as you'd say that a calculator that was told 1+1=3 isn't lying when it tells you that 1+2=5. It has the wrong information, so according to it's (assumed) professionalism, she died of a "broken heart" because that's what the droid doctor gleaned from it's diagnoses. It's not IT'S fault it wasn't installed with human biology so it could tell humans needed throats to live.

I'm not saying this makes it better in any way really. But she's not ZOIDBERG, she's just a robot that people trusted because "it is a robot" without realizing it is designed for alien use only.

Most of the EU was garbage anyway and it's not like Lucas ever paid much attention to it.

Heck, half the reason the EU was thrown out was because Lucas didn't keep notes on what was in continuity and what wasn't.

I just threw up in my soul a little.

I stopped watching Doctor Who because its complete and utter disregard - no, not disregard, contempt - for keeping facts about the setting straight (even for a single episode) made it impossible for me to care about anyone or anything in the entire show. If that's your bag of marbles, fine, but don't act like it's even close to decent, or a way that other shows can or should handle their own continuity.

The original trilogy wasn't perfect, no. The difference is that THAT retcon didn't make the characters even dumber (you didn't get a HUMAN medical bot for your HUMAN patient?! You didn't realize 'lost the will to live' meant the droid was incompetent? If it didn't know human biology how did it manage to birth the twins?! ARRGH) or require twisting the scene like a towel to make it work.

See, I stopped watching Doctor Who because it became crispy fried garbage once Russell T Davies got his grubby little mitts on it.

Doctor Who is not a "big picture" show (one of the things the new series doesn't quite grasp.) It's almost anthological, even. Pedantic fact checking is anathema to the individuality of each new serial.

I wasn't referring to that. I'm currently listening to this song so... You know... I've never let a little misogyny get in the way of enjoying something.

Even if I did, though, I'm not sure RTD's habit of having his female companions willingly subsume their identity to get into the Doctor fanclub was much better.

While I was sleeping, it looks like I missed out on a huge argument, where, in traditional GitP fashion, nobody was offended and it was more of a pleasant debate.

ION: I just got a Fight Pad in the mail to make up for the Great Adapter Shortage of 2014. It's a hell of a lot better than playing Smash on the gamepad.

IOON: My computer charger literally ripped in half, so for the next day or so I'll be posting from my phone. Please excuse any grammatical errors or typos that I make.

    What a boring notion.

The best thing about that line is how absolutely wrong it is, by it's very nature. The statement is itself an absolute. Not only that, but one of the most famous lines, one of the most IMPORTANT lines in the series is, from Yoda.

"DO OR DO NOT, THERE IS NO TRY"

So not only is it logically incorrect (Sith aren't the only ones who deal in absolutes) literally wrong AS a statement (it is in fact an absolute to say this, so you are disproving this statement) but also wrong from a in series sense (Jedi deal in absolutes all the time). It's a microcosm of everything wrong with the Prequel series.

It is not 'pedantic fact checking' to ask that you keep your continuity straight for a single season. Or even just one serial! And if you're going to try and build a mystery out of your story you need to keep your continuity straight at least until the mystery is solved (looking at you, Silence).

Hayden Christensen's actually a good actor, it's just the dialogue and direction that suck. Look at any scene where he doesn't have to talk and he looks like a badass. Also, compare his dialogue with Luke's in RotJ and you'll notice they both sound heartless and cold.

The only thing I like about (any part of) Star Wars is the lightsabers. That's because, although I'm not that into Sci-Fi, they're freakin' LAZER SWORDS! I have no opinion whatsoever on Doctor Who.
