Thessaloniki - Outside the Walls

A VTOL hovers down some distance away from the city, and a bunch of soldiers rope down. Once they're down and de-attached, a few crates are dropped from the craft that they catch, and then it flies off again.

The squad of eight soldiers start walking towards the command post at a brisk pace.

"Right. From what intel I've got, we're waiting for a new breach to get in among the main assault. Then we're taking two APCs into the city and follow what path seems best towards our target. We're authorized to take advantage of ground support as we find it but not to rely on or be slowed down by the advancing grunts. Personally, I'd say we have to blast past the front, wherever it may be at the time, and then we should ditch the APCs if we intend to actually get anywhere, but don't tell the brass that, it's supposedly 'valuable equipment'."

"Got it. Basically, once we get in, we'll work as we see fit."

"Might be a nasty brawl in there."

And so they move in to the HQ to report to the commander that the Combat Specialist Assault Squad Gamma has arrived, Lieutenant Garren Russell in command, and are awaiting for the order to charge in. As well as the vehicles to do it with.

Thessaloniki - Near the Palace

"How's the charges, Davis?" A man clothed in urban camo, standing on one of the larger streets heading for the palace shouts this up at a building overlooking a small plaza. A head peeks out an opened window.

"All set, Captain."

Another soldier walks to the Captain on the plaza from a different building. "I've set up the position, but are you sure about this? We were told to avoid collateral."

"Avoiding collateral is not an option in an urban battle. My way, we're avoiding the deaths of us all defending the city, Waen. That's the priority."

"All right sir." Waen salutes. "I'll go help with the side streets."

"Davis! No time for a break now, I need you to mine this building!"

"Coming..."

Soon enough, they were ready to collapse a few buildings on any hapless enemy troops coming through, with the added benefit of creating barricades and cover for themselves. And there was a sniper on the seventh-floor window of the building overlooking the entrance to the plaza, with the other ambushing troops hidden in nearby buildings.

Now just to wait for the enemy...
