Does anyone know any reasons why people in 1980's Britain would disagree with the statement that "Masculinity is under threat." It's for a debate in Film.

I'd watch Fightclub. Is that not the whole point of much of the film? And 1980s Brits were the angry miners, remember, burly men from beneath wouldn't like their masculinity questioned.
