Erfworld Merchandise Ideas
Okay, there have been a lot of calls for Erfworld merchandise in various threads. There is a book planned, so that is covered. What else?
I'm really looking for what you'd actually pay to own, because merchandise is expensive, slow, and a pain to deal with. We'd like to start with a few sensible items to have with us for the Summer convention season (or sooner). So what should we make?
A poster is likely, because it's not too hard to make. But what size, and what should be on it?
At least one T-shirt is very likely. But again, what images, text, or other parts of Erfworld would you want to wear?
We're considering other items, too. For example, would you pay $5 for a bright yellow bar of soap shaped like a gwiffon and smelling like marshmallow? Have you seen some cool little trinket that would be perfect for our universe? Post your ideas and comments here.Rob Balder, Erfworld author/co-creator, and creator of PartiallyClips

Re: Erfworld Merchandise Ideas
You should consider selling Arkenhammers. I'm pretty sure you can get them in bulk, and then customize them somehow? (There are probably places willing to put messages on them too.)
Gwiffon merch might be tough. Is the Peep likeness trademarked?"Do you have a headache spell?"
"Yes! Or... To cure one? No. If I had that, I would never stop casting it."

Page 18, panel 5. Parson saying "Aaah! Ow!" while camere is focused on face.
That would make a great shirt.
That or Page 19, last panel. A poster of a fat nerd toweing over a small guy would look good on the wall.

Oh! Here's one!
A shirt with Stanley gleefully yelling "I'm a Tool!"
I'd buy ten.

I'd buy the game.
Book, I wouldn't, shirts, nu-uh, but if you create an Erf-world miniatures game/campaign setting/board game, I'd buy it.

Hamstard Shirts, Hamstard in 3/4 saying "Hott" Shirts
Erfworld Idiot and Tool buttons and Shirts
Arkenhammers could be good for Conventions, but I wouldn't order one.
The Game would do well, I think, but I don't have anyone to play with right now. (St Joe MO, Anyone?)
And Yes, the "I am a Tool" shirt with or without Stanley
And, you would be popular a convention if you had a "dress like Wanda" contest.Spoiler

Re: Erfworld Merchandise Ideas
As far as t-shirts go, I'd love one, but the image has to stand alone, instead of relying on background knowledge of the strip. I've been proselytizing the masses, but character recognition among the populace is still pretty low. Perhaps the planned cover art for the book?
A "Good Guys" tee with Ansome and his forces, and of course a "Bad Guys" one with Stanley.
Perhaps a bestiary? Is the original ORLY image traceable to any particular person, or is it in the public domain?

Re: Erfworld Merchandise Ideas
Seconding:
"When life gives you crap, make crap golems" would make a great t-shirt.
"I'm a tool" tshirt or poster, with or without Stanley
Also,
"Boop me in the boop" tshirt
"Hippiemancer" tshirt or poster, perhaps with an accompanying suitable illustration.
"Squatter Hobbit" tshirt

Re: Erfworld Merchandise Ideas
I want a "when life gives you crap, make crap golems" button or t-shirt, and an "I'm a tool" something. T-shirt or poster.
I would love a poster of almost anything in the blow-up-erfworld thread, ideally one of the wide-pan shots like Wanda flying into Gobwin Knob, or maybe the Elvii building Erfworld. Jamie's art is so great, almost anything would do. A glamour shot with all the main characters (or many of) would be even awesomer but of course would require more art-making time that Jamie should be spending drawing us more Erfworld comics.Last edited by Erk; 2007-01-30 at 05:08 PM.

Re: Erfworld Merchandise Ideas
1) "I am a Tool!" shirt and/or button. Seriously, anyone who has seen/read the comic will see this and fall over laughing. Anyone who hasn't will see a munchkin exclaiming that he is a tool, assume it's a gaming reference, and fall over laughing. This has got to be your #1 seller.
2) "When life gives you crap, make crap golems." Shirt/Button. This can also be a regular gaming reference, and is a cute twist on the lemons/lemonade saying. Gamers will grab this one up just for fun. Write up D&D 3.5 stats for a 'crap golem' and stamp it on as a background if you like.
Unfortunately, my financial situation is tight enough that I wouldn't be able to acutally purchase any, but if I had the extra cash (like cash specifically saved back and you happened to be at a Con in my area), I'd probably snag one.
Words of advice:
1) Buttons and bumper stickers are cheap. Start with those.
2) Original artwork can be turned into Prints, then autographed and put in the Art Show of many conventions. This could also be a source of income if there is a demand. Probably not so good right now, but if Erfworld gets as big as OotS (a distinct possibility), a year or two down the line, they could be easily marketable.SpoilerQuite possibly, the best rebuttal I have ever witnessed.

Re: Erfworld Merchandise Ideas
Buttons, stickers, and mugs all sound like fun smaller items to me, and t-shirts, hoodies, and posters are givens. I would be willing to buy quite a few stickers. My students would have no idea what they were, but they would still be fun prizes for in class.

Re: Erfworld Merchandise Ideas
As I said in another thread, I'm 100% in support of a vague but Erfworld-fan appreciated "arkenhammer shirt".
For those who didn't read that thread, it would be very simple. A large picture of the arkenhammer on the front. Optionally on the back, it could say something like "Chirp!" or something to vaguely imply the Arkenhammer. Us Erfworld fans would get it and be highly amused, and it would be a conversation piece that we wearers of it could use to plug Erfworld to our fellow nerds.-Edgar Verona
