I think that's why Kryptonite was invented, so you'd be able to chuck stones at Superman, who seriously needs it.

Ah, but when Remus did that, he killed everyone on the Island and Mike, preventing anymore damage. If Remus had just let Mike destroy the Island, he would've just gone to another place and kill everyone there and so on.
