Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
He would have no physical structure, likely dissipate into the environment, and would also disintegrate his own soul in the process.
Magic doesn't work in the Plane of Incarnum because magic is a particle produced by Incarnum interacting with the inert matter of other planes. In the Plane of Incarnum there is no inert matter, it's just Incarnum.
You also have to consider the difficulty in getting to the plane of Incarnum. Lying is having to burn more spell slots to open the portal because he needs that much more magical energy, and he's burning almost all of his spell slots (Which it should be fairly obvious, he has a lot more of than most spellcasters because he has three different spellcasting paths to draw on)Last edited by Lyinginbedmon; 2009-04-16 at 07:17 PM.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
@X2: Is the D-jump controlled from the base in Avbaroy (i.e. a machine) or is it a spell that a caster uses? If it's the former dibs on being the operator.
And is there any sort of communication between dimension?

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
Is there anything that could focus incarnum into one form, i.e. compressing it, so it wouldn't dissipate? Something that could contain it?
Stupid limits of incarnum stopping me from having a badass moment.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
You're talking about a substance that produces more magic the more dense it is. The more you compress it, the more it defies physics.
The only differentiation of Incarnum in the plane is frequency. Incarnum with a very high frequency is that of a soul, low frequency Incarnum is far more inert and is generally a misty bluish substance (Which permeates most reality and which you can use for stuff, but which is basically the rock to the human of Incarnum).
So if you wanted to survive in any way in the Plane of Incarnum, you would need to convert yourself into low frequency Incarnum so that you didn't interfere with the local stock. But in doing so, you'd obliterate your own sentience and negate any magic you were using.
This is the one plane in the entire multiverse that you do. not. mess with.Last edited by Lyinginbedmon; 2009-04-16 at 07:37 PM.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
And of course, we've scrapped the rule of cool. Sorry that I forgot that we decided that.
Regardless, if Oliver made himself pure incarnum, high density at that, wouldn't defying physics essentially be the rule of cool? If magic makes incredible physics defying things happen, and incarnum is essentially super magic, then can we not let the rule of cool stay in place? Could he not turn into incarnum, go to the plane of incarnum, and strut along happily in it?

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
Aaww...
Oh well, I'll figure something out... On to round 2 of questions:
What is the base like? And how does D-jump work? I don't mean WHAT it does or the 48 hour cool-down, I mean like the casting, do you select the dimensional frequency or is it at random, that kind of stuff. Oh, and who is casting it?
EDIT: I don't feel like being the boss... Only a higher level underling with privileges.

Home Base is like SGC if you've seen Stargate, technical and organised.
D-Jump is a spell in either Divination or Conjuration which summons a portal which acts as a wormhole through the fifth dimension. Its location is chosen at random.
Whoever screams in agony cast it. At the moment X2, Brain and Damien are the only ones who know it.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
First off: Incarnum isn't super magic. Heavy Incarnum interacting with low frequency Incarnum (Which is essentially in everything) produces magic as a byproduct. It is not itself magical. It is however high energy, and energises biological matter, which is why it increases the incidence of sentience, and then it's interaction with the low-frequency Incarnum of the biological matter and the similarly saturated matter around it produces magic.
If Oliver made himself completely heavy (Ie. high frequency) Incarnum, then yes he could essentially maintain his sentience by way of magic produced by his mere existence amongst low frequency Incarnum, but once he steps into the Plane of Incarnum, he's interacting with heavy and low frequency simultaneously and would disintegrate.
That said, a person composed of heavy Incarnum would be very magically powerful in any other plane. What do you think Rand is composed of?Last edited by Lyinginbedmon; 2009-04-16 at 07:48 PM.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
I'm not trying to control anyone, I'm just saying that the Plane of Incarnum has distinct traits not unlike the Elemental Plane of Fire is full of fire and the Elemental Plane of Water is full of water.
Incarnum has to have specific qualities to function as a soul and the source of magic, and this is a plane full of the stuff, so it has qualities as a result that make it fundamentally untenable as a result.
Besides, I just gave you license to be uber powerful by way of being distilled heavy Incarnum. Don't complain.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
Screw planar physics to the curb and do the impossible, that is the Planar Journeyman way! I shall pierce the plane of incarnum with my cool armblade thingy!
Appropriately reworded TTGL reference.
So there is absolutely NO WAY Oliver could enter the plane of incarnum and maintain his sentience and body...
*light bulb* How long would it take for him to distentagrate?

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
Hmm...hard to say.
If he hit a pocket of low frequency Incarnum he might be able to survive for a while, but as soon as he hits either an intersection between low and heavy Incarnum or just heavy, he's done for. The constantly roiling nature of the two in the plane makes it kinda impossible to say.
Low frequency is kinda like bubbles in the ocean, but if you somehow managed to enter through the planar shell (Because magic operates no further because of the Incarnum) directly into a large enough bubble, you'd be able to survive.
Better bring some air though.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
Well if you emanated heavy Incarnum you'd disintegrate (Heavy Incarnum is the living soul, but in that example it's a small amount spread out such that it doesn't cause any real harm), and if you emanated low Incarnum you'd have no protection against the heavy. You'd be fine in the low anyways because it permeates the other planes.
If people want me to I'll post the full Incarnum "ecology" as regards the multiverse, the soul, and magic. Fair warning that's a big post.Last edited by Lyinginbedmon; 2009-04-16 at 08:06 PM.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion Thread XIX: To FAIL, or not to FAIL?
Randomizer, I think it shows real maturity that, instead of just shutting off the portal or killing Lying because you dislike the idea or its implimentation, you've chosen to confront him about the risks and offer him the choice for discussion.
I think that's really adult of you, thanks.
Alas, it's almost twenty past 2 in the morning, and I seriously should be asleep by now, so an in-comic response is going to be a little while.Last edited by Lyinginbedmon; 2009-04-16 at 08:19 PM.
