I'm a mix, I like both equally. But if it were ONLY TV series, I'd probably like Digimon more by a lot. More plotty.

As for the games, they were awesome. Except... out of the actual games, Yellow was the first I played... and Crystal was the last. I played both Stadiums and Colloseums, but those don't count, really.... It just felt like way too much of the same, over and over again. This included the TV Show.

Just like Digimon, though... Season 1 was the first I watched, Season 2 was the last. Digimon's music owns, though.

Ech...don't remind me. The TV Show should just die off already. -_-; Or at least stop following Ash around already. Seriously, it would've been a better season-by-season show if they had dropped him right after his own journey, and done each new region with a brand new trainer. It's not like that would've even been hard; May and Dawn would've been fine as solo characters, and seeing a newbie trainer in Dawn would actually have been a bit refreshing, if we weren't constantly exposed to Ash all the time. Instead, she's annoying because now we've got her AND Ash to deal with at the same time, and it's really hard to care about anything that happens in the show when we know that Pikachu is going to solve everything. -_-;

Ah...as for the games, I feel you're right there too. Yellow was actually an unessential upgrade from Red and Blue, but interesting in its own way. Gold and Silver (+ Crystal) improved and expanded upon everything that made Red and Blue (+ Yellow) a good game. Sapphire and Ruby (+ Emerald)...meh, I could have done without. Contests never really did anything for me, and since they are absolutely not required by the plot (something I am thankful for), they just seem like the longest side-quest in gaming history. And all that Diamond and Pearl (+Platinum) really did for us was bring a pointless rock digging minigame and wireless trading, which was pretty cool (the wireless trading,not the pointless rock digging game), but not cool enough to warrant a new game.

The thing is, this is working for them. They go through the same motions with every game and every season because it retains the same appeal to the original fans of the game. Though the game at least trades out the characters for new ones, meaning that the same age group will likely catch on to the pokemon hype as if the first 3/6/9/12 games never happened, the Anime is basically formed off of Ash's Adventures...though at this point it could be called Team Rocket's Adventures, since both Ash and Team Rocket appear in the exact same number of episodes throughout the entire series (unless there was another Team Rocket Solo episode that I forgot.)

But I don't know... Team Rocket is always using anti-pikachu robots and stuff, so... Ash is an idiot for always trying to use Pikachu as a first resort.

My problem with Pikachu is that it should be Pwning everything left and right, (bar ground, natch)with or without STAB. The thing's been in hundreds of battles, several of which were against friggin' legendaries.

Even against ground types, Pikachu just aims for the horn and tells the rules to go cry in a corner... However, Jolteon, Lanturn and Electivire should be able to beat it these days, because Volt Absorb and Motor Drive completely neutralise electric type moves...

I do agree that the anime should stop following Ash around, maybe give team rocket a few more pokemon to work with so that they present a credible threat... Seriously, there must be a few dozen animators stalking Ash by now, scaring off nearly every wild pokemon he might encounter...

In one of the more recent gym battles, Pikachu was used and was taken out quickly, while the other two pokemons that were used were far more useful. They do try to create a fake feeling of challenge by making Ash learn stuff that he already knew...

If only the current version of the anime wasn't so thoroughly ingrained. Some of us older fans would surely love to go back a more nuanced imagining of the pokemon world from the Special/Adventure mangas.
