Good evening, people! (Or night, whatever)

I'm going to ramble a little bit (about the comic; no worries, I'm not planning to wander off topic), because I noticed that while working on these character pics a lot of thoughts about them popped up, and now I'm going to spill some of them here (and because I really need something nice to think about right now), so I hope you don't mind.

I really haven't said much of these characters before, just that Matt (for some unknown reason) is my favourite. Speaking of which,

Anyways, about our heroes(I apologise the horrible grammar):

Lloyd was a little hard to get to know; I noticed this when I realised I had no idea what kind of expression I should give him. My impression of him was that he was much like Roy, minus the snarky comments, but otherwise I couldn't really think of anythig else. When I re-read the comic, more carefully this time, my idea of him got a little more depth. This probably because those bits that tell about him are mostly very brief and do not draw any particular attention to themselves (which is rather clever, in my opinion).

What do I think of him now? Well, he seems to me as a truly good person, who is wise enough to understand that he can be wrong and has still a lot to learn of this world, unlike the most paladins I've seen. Though it would seem that he has learned this the hard way, be it because of his own mistakes or the surroundings he has lived in. Either way, I sense a slight aura of sadness around him.

Is any of this or the following babble correct? Well, I could ask, but it's not like Coffee's gonna tell anyway.

Radic on the other hand seems like a quite calm person. She does not seem to be too gullible or unknowing of the world, but I don't think she has faced any grave sorrow or evilness in her life. As a druid, she is naturally at home in the forest, but it's nice to see that towns are not unfamiliar to her either. There are so many recluse druids already. How old is she by the way? Or the others? I recall a mention that Lloyd would be 28 or something...

Janine, Janine, Janine...well, some aspects of her character have become rather clear to us by now, though I believe it has been somewhat been exaggerated in the discussion, as is only fit(because it's fun). She seems like an overall positive person, who doesn't take life too seriously. What has her past life been like is hard to say, or that how religious she really is. Cheerful people can have led easy lives or then they are strong enough to put the bad things behind them, and keep smiling.

Matt then... I really don't understand why I like him the most, usually his kind just irritate me and get on my nerves. He is funny, that's understandable, but... Oh well, moving on. He is a greedy thief who loves money(don't all rogues?), but like Lloyd, I too believe he is a good person deep down. He didn't run away when they were fighting Tinder, did he? He probably didn't have a very easy upbringing, because I don't think of him as a person who became a thief just for fun. Sure, he got greedy, or has always been, but it still does not seem like it's the original reason.

And last but not least, the little dragon Tinder. He is a likeable character with a tragic background, how can one not like him? I think you did a good job in describing his past and his feelings of how it would be pointless to revenge his family's murder. It was touching and reasonable, not melodramatic or overly sentimental. It'll be interesting to see how he fits in the party.

So, that's it, phuh, what a wall of text, I think I'll spoiler it. I'll applaud to anyone who bothered to read all of it.

Fun Fact: The joke in comic 3 was just supposed to be a one-off gag. Janine's nymphomania is a case of Throw It In, which I then developed into a series of events that make up a very big part of her character, her backstory, her past, everything. Making that one-off gag into a major part of Janine's character has made her much more in-depth, and I'm rather pleased with what I did with it.

Well, Matt just turned 26 about a month ago. But yeah.

Actually, I think I should clarify.

I didn't force these characters into these traits and roles. They grew into them naturally, and often told me what they would do. For example, right now Tinder's wondering if he should say something that I suggested he say in a future strip.

*nods*Yeah, characters can be like that. In one of my stories I have this hot-headed sulker who almost never does what I want, or at least ignores me if he wishes to do otherwise. He wasn't even supposed to be a major character at all... But it is funny how you get to love these stubborn troublemakers anyway.

Hope you are spared of any similiar extreme cases, though, unless you are fond of daily battles of willpower!

All good authors tend to find their characters making them do things. I once wrote an AU fanfic, and I wanted to keep a character alive who'd died in canon. Characters and plot hit me over the head and killed him in an utterly non-epic way. ;_;

Tinder woke up.

Yesterday had been hell on earth, all those adventurers, all that running and screaming...
Though in the end they had all managed to get the heck out of the city and regroup, but not before sustaining serious injuries.

He had warned them, but no, they just had to find a quest.
Now look at the state they were in.

They had ran out of healing spells the day before so they had all been forced to sleep with horrific injuries covering large portions of their bodies.

From the look of things he was the first to wake up, typical really.

...Wasn't Matt supposed to be keeping watch?
So where was he?

Tinder turned around, just in time to see Matt disappear up in a tree.

Now what was he doing up there?

That's when the stinkbombs started flying.
OH DEAR TIAMAT THE SMELL AGH THE SMELL!

Radic was woken up rather violently by a horrible stink.

"Wha-?"

Something hit her in the face.

It was a stink bomb.
And who in the party had stink bombs?
That's right...Matt.

She summoned a pack of dire squirrels to hunt him down and beat him up.

"(Hack hack cough) What's going (cough) on?" Lloyd asked when he came up behind her.

"Matt. Stink bombs." Tinder wheezed.

"" Janine did not look happy about having her sleep interrupted, especially not by such a horrible smell.

"ARGH GET OFFA ME GET OFF OF ME!" And that was Matt tumbling out of a tree with a bunch of dire squirrels attached to his face.

CRACK!

And that was him landing on his head and hitting 0 hit points.

Tinder was running away from the smell while Radic got the squirrels to stop attacking.

"Help" Matt pleaded.

"Hmmm...no, i think you can lie there for a while" Janine growled, clearly still pissed about the whole 'interrupted sleep' thing.

"It's not like you are in danger of dying, you stay stable as long as you don't do anything" Radic added.

Lloyd was bashing his head against a tree.

"Come, let's go wash the smell of" Radic said.

Janine looked at Lloyd with a smirk.

Lloyd looked back "Don't" he said.

Tinder had managed to escape the smell by diving into a nearby lake.

Thank gods that was over.
He was going to hurt Matt so bad when he got back.

Lloyd had gone off to another part of the lake in order to give the girls their privacy, though Janine seemed a bit upset about it.

The two girls would be washing themselves in one part of the lake while the men would do it on the other side of a small island sticking up in the middle.

However, because Tinder had been in such a hurry he had not been informed of this and was currently swimming around in the girls half of the lake.

Meaning that when Radic dived in she got one heck of a surprise when his head came out just a few feet away from her.

"Uhh...oh crap" was all he could say.

Janine wasn't complaining, but Radic certainly was.

And here we have another of my ideas.

Janine doesn't mind though...which is to be expected really.


Poor little dragon, ended up on the wrong side of the lake.
Then again...

And Matt meanwhile can't do anything at all without hitting negatives as a result.
Having exactly 0 Hit Points sucks like that.
The damage from the day before + the squirrels + the falling damage from falling out of the tree put him at 0.

I had the weirdest idea for a mini comic. It was Lloyd imagining himself married to each of the girls... Radic and him had kids, a boy with a pet wolf and a girl with a toy halberd. <3

I'll admit I was surprised Lloyd chose to lie to the mayor. Surely he's got enough ranks in Diplomacy to convince him that Tinder doesn't deserve to be killed and won't be terrorizing the town anytime soon.

I think the DC for that diplomacy check is somewhere between "Not a chance" and "You're insane to think it will work".
