Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
Hi.
Out of curiosity, is there gonna be a chance for Rock Band or Sing Star or something similar?
I'm just singing along with some Rush right now, and I think this may be exactly what we need.

Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
Including me, I think
456 people attending have my number.
Looking through, rough times of arrival on Friday look like:
Capt Spanner - already there
Thufir's Friend #1 - already there
Archonic - 17:03
Thufir, Tasroth & Parents - 8ish then immediate dinner before anything else
Curly - about half nine
Ku, randman, Irbis, Eldpollard - 10ish
Fred, Thufir's Friend #2 - Unknown, but definitely Friday
Anyone else - Unknown or arriving on Saturday
Note - This is not a request for arrival times on Saturday, since those people will just come to the venue. This is only relevant for meeting up the night before.
So, a bit after 10 would look like the most suitable time, giving an opportunity for everyone to have arrived and dumped stuff at Spanner's.
Possibilitieswhich spring to mind:
1) I contact someone around 10 to be told where we're going, expected time to get there, Spanner guides the rest since they're staying at his house.
2) We turn up at Spanner's house as well and he guides everyone to somewhere.
2a) We turn up at Spanner's house as well and just hang out with everyone there.
3) We meet up with my friends somewhere and someone contacts me to ask where we are, then they all come join us.
Note 'we' in all cases refers to me, Tasroth and possibly parents if they want to join us. Also, in options 1, 2 & 2a I would obviously co-ordinate what happens with my friends."'But there's still such a lot to be done...'
YES. THERE ALWAYS IS."

Just curious, but how many people coming on Friday are under 18? Sheffield has many excellent pubs.
Also: those staying at mine: don't forget a sleeping bag...it's snowing here and thus the house is pretty cold! (If you have a hot-water bottle, I suggest bringing that too)Last edited by Capt Spanner; 2010-11-29 at 08:51 PM.

I now have a blog. Have a look if you wish. It contains those naughty profanities that you won't find here. If you like what you read send me a PM, or if you don't like it. I'd like to know how many people here read it.

I'm fine with anything, but I'd prefer to ditch my stuff at Spanner's place due to the baking I'll be bringing.
I think only Cassie, CrownofThorns and perhaps hamishspence are under eighteen, so pubbing is definitely an option.
Snow?
o.O
AWESOME!
I've hardly ever been in snow, better make sure to pack my scarf and find some gloves.

might need to try and rustle up my gloves for the weekend, then.
Could come in quite handy.
Spanner, what's the temperatures like in Sheffield at the moment? a couple degrees below 0 or several (like -10 or more) degrees below?
deciding if it's worth bringing a long sleeved shirt or not.

Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
Right, we have a slight change of plans here...
Lensman's mother, my grandmother, is dying. It is exceedingly unlikely that he will be able to make it to the meetup.
This means there is a little problem with transport for me (I still intend to come, even if Lensman isn't). I am working on ways to get to the meetup, and have found some regular looking train journeys from my town to Sheffield, and can make it to the meetup that way if needbe. However, if there's someone else travelling to the meetup from around the Cambridge area I would appreciate it if I could steal a seat / travel with you."I'm just going on motive and opportunity here and the fact that if the earth got swallowed by a black hole, I'd look suspiciously in your direction first."

Oh Cassie sweetie, I'm so sorry.
It's nice that you're still trying to come to the meetup though. If you want you can phone me when you approach Sheffield and I can meet you at the station and walk you to the meetup venue if you want.

Hmmm... With the weather conditions the way they are, I fear that the foreign contingent will likely be a bit later in getting to Sheffield on Friday than 10PM.
First of all, it depends on when randman gets done with classes and is ready to leave, and then the roads down south. The motorways shouldn't be much of a problem, but you never know.
Just giving you all a bit of a head's up.

Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
Can't decide whether to park and ride at Meadowhall or whether to just do the train the whole way...
I've got a work colleague who's not been able to get out of sheffield this morning.
I'm looking forward to running my game but it features some unconventional features of a role playing game. There will be an element of PvP for example.

Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
I've seen that the tram routes only operate till 18.20 on a saturday. I need to catch a train saturday evening to nottingham, and I'm not familiar with sheffield or it's bus routes.
What's the best way to get to the station? Or can I get a lift? There's an 8.40, 8.54, or 9.38 train that I can catch.
Suggestions?

I feel like I should bring something traditional from Wales. That said I have no idea what that would be. A sheep would be too bulky for the train, a leek wouldn't be appreciated, I'd say rarebit but that wouldn't survive the train journey as it's kind of runny, also I'd eat it. There is a traditional sweet shop, I could have a look there for stuff to bring.

Fares between Uni. Sheffield and the train station are £1.20 each way. Trams do run on a Sunday, but less regularly.
