    Hi.

Out of curiosity, is there gonna be a chance for Rock Band or Sing Star or something similar?

I'm just singing along with some Rush right now, and I think this may be exactly what we need.

EDIT: I have Chronic New Page Syndrome.

Including me, I think 4 5 6 people attending have my number.

Looking through, rough times of arrival on Friday look like:

    Capt Spanner - already there
    Thufir's Friend #1 - already there
    Archonic - 17:03
Thufir, Tasroth & Parents - 8ish then immediate dinner before anything else
    Curly - about half nine
Ku, randman, Irbis, Eldpollard - 10ish
Fred, Thufir's Friend #2 - Unknown, but definitely Friday
Anyone else - Unknown or arriving on Saturday

Note - This is not a request for arrival times on Saturday, since those people will just come to the venue. This is only relevant for meeting up the night before.

So, a bit after 10 would look like the most suitable time, giving an opportunity for everyone to have arrived and dumped stuff at Spanner's.
    Possibilitieswhich spring to mind:
    1) I contact someone around 10 to be told where we're going, expected time to get there, Spanner guides the rest since they're staying at his house.
    2) We turn up at Spanner's house as well and he guides everyone to somewhere.
2a) We turn up at Spanner's house as well and just hang out with everyone there.
    3) We meet up with my friends somewhere and someone contacts me to ask where we are, then they all come join us.
Note 'we' in all cases refers to me, Tasroth and possibly parents if they want to join us. Also, in options 1, 2 & 2a I would obviously co-ordinate what happens with my friends.

Just curious, but how many people coming on Friday are under 18? Sheffield has many excellent pubs.

Also: those staying at mine: don't forget a sleeping bag...it's snowing here and thus the house is pretty cold! (If you have a hot-water bottle, I suggest bringing that too)

I'm fine with anything, but I'd prefer to ditch my stuff at Spanner's place due to the baking I'll be bringing.

I think only Cassie, CrownofThorns and perhaps hamishspence are under eighteen, so pubbing is definitely an option.

might need to try and rustle up my gloves for the weekend, then.
    Could come in quite handy.

Spanner, what's the temperatures like in Sheffield at the moment? a couple degrees below 0 or several (like -10 or more) degrees below?

Right, we have a slight change of plans here...

Lensman's mother, my grandmother, is dying. It is exceedingly unlikely that he will be able to make it to the meetup.

This means there is a little problem with transport for me (I still intend to come, even if Lensman isn't). I am working on ways to get to the meetup, and have found some regular looking train journeys from my town to Sheffield, and can make it to the meetup that way if needbe. However, if there's someone else travelling to the meetup from around the Cambridge area I would appreciate it if I could steal a seat / travel with you.

Oh Cassie sweetie, I'm so sorry.

It's nice that you're still trying to come to the meetup though. If you want you can phone me when you approach Sheffield and I can meet you at the station and walk you to the meetup venue if you want.

Hmmm... With the weather conditions the way they are, I fear that the foreign contingent will likely be a bit later in getting to Sheffield on Friday than 10PM.

First of all, it depends on when randman gets done with classes and is ready to leave, and then the roads down south. The motorways shouldn't be much of a problem, but you never know.

Just giving you all a bit of a head's up.

Can't decide whether to park and ride at Meadowhall or whether to just do the train the whole way...

I've got a work colleague who's not been able to get out of sheffield this morning.

I'm looking forward to running my game but it features some unconventional features of a role playing game. There will be an element of PvP for example.

I've seen that the tram routes only operate till 18.20 on a saturday. I need to catch a train saturday evening to nottingham, and I'm not familiar with sheffield or it's bus routes.

What's the best way to get to the station? Or can I get a lift? There's an 8.40, 8.54, or 9.38 train that I can catch.

    Suggestions?

    EDIT: Glug, count me in

We can explore the possibilities and availability of parking next to the Octagon Centre on Saturday, and if it's good to go to park there, I'll likely do the shuttle-duty and will then be able to give you a lift to the train station when you need to leave.

I feel like I should bring something traditional from Wales. That said I have no idea what that would be. A sheep would be too bulky for the train, a leek wouldn't be appreciated, I'd say rarebit but that wouldn't survive the train journey as it's kind of runny, also I'd eat it. There is a traditional sweet shop, I could have a look there for stuff to bring.
I now have a blog. Have a look if you wish. It contains those naughty profanities that you won't find here. If you like what you read send me a PM, or if you don't like it. I'd like to know how many people here read it.

Avatar done by me. If you want one then you clearly have no taste. I'll do one happily. You just have no taste.

Because some people are only staying Saturday, I can put you up on Friday if that's easiest. Should I PM you the details?

These instructions are for those arriving on the day. For those coming to mine the day before, instructions will follow via PM.

    Train:
From Sheffield train station, head to the back of the station to the tram stop. (If you find shops and a foyer, you've gone to the front, but the tram stop is pretty clearly signposted IIRC.)

Take the tram toward Malin-Bridge/Middlewood to University of Sheffield. (You don't cross the tramlines for that, IIRC.) Blue-route trams go directly there, purple-route trams turn around at Cathedral, so you'll need to change there. (From Cathedral, you can take blue- or yellow-route trams. If all this sounds confusing, don't worry, it's much easier once you're there and have a diagram.)

Once you get off the tram, simply walk the short distance to the Octagon Centre (Link to Google Map)

    Car:

The official University webpage advises that you go to Meadowhall or Nunnery Square and use the park-and-ride (see instructions above for tram routes). The inner city parking is not reliable (and lots of the parking around the place needs a special permit, which I can't get.)

    Coach:

From Meadowhall, find the tram stop (which is by the rail services) and follow the instructions given for tram routes in the "train" section.

    Contact number:

If you need to contact me on the day: zero-seven-nine-two-zero-four-zero-eight-eight-one-five
(So bots can't comb for it...)
Just bringing this forward a bit so I can write it all down later. Any idea what the tram fare will be by the by?
Will the trams be running on the Sunday too? My train back is at 10:30am.

Fares between Uni. Sheffield and the train station are £1.20 each way. Trams do run on a Sunday, but less regularly.

It's nice that you're still trying to come to the meetup though. If you want you can phone me when you approach Sheffield and I can meet you at the station and walk you to the meetup venue if you want.
    Pming you both. Thanks.
