Googling elf ears body mod produces images of people who have apparently undergone surgery to make their ears pointy.

I've known about such things since I was about seven years old. Used to fantasize about having normal ears, even. Then, one day I decided that, the little pointy bit and I had been through a lot together, and so I figured it couldn't hurt to let it stay.

Well the chick who was doing my hair was simultaneously working on my mother's hair. I'd dyed my hair dark brown/red back in October, and it was wearing out and looking odd, so I wanted to get it recolored as well as reshaped. This is about a third of the way to my natural color. First she had to wash my hair and strip it, then let it dry which took probably 30 minutes, then she spent another 30-40 doing my highlights, which had to sit in for 25 minutes, then 40 or so painting on the rest of the dye and letting it sit, then washing it out, then FINALLY cutting, which took about 45 minutes to an hour.
It was a long day at the stylist's.
