Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
I suppose it's in the spirit of this thread to
mercilessly whore outpresent my latest line of avatars. Striptease edition!
It's a sad day when you have to name the fully dressed avatar such in the filename, in order to differentiate it from the 'regular' one.Originally Posted by Lord Magtok

Whoops, I made an odd thing.
Spoiler
A very odd thing indeed. Yes, he's got a lime for a head, that's what I'm talking about.
I guess I'm asking for advice here? I'm still pretty unpracticed, so there's definitely things I could work on.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
Even though this thread moves slowly, with the infrequency of my posts there seems to be quite a few pieces to respond to! It would take over an hour to comment to everything, so I won't comment at all, My reasoning being that if I just comment on some, then it seems I'm ignoring others.
However, I do have something I'd like to show. Maybe one or two of the the long-time posters might recognize this picture:
A what-if? scenario in which for some reason the members of the Order of the Stick happened to swap origin stories and each others' roles.
I decided to update it using the better Paint skills I developed since drawing it all the way back in 2007.
Here it is:
Their (tentative) names are: Hal Starhilt, Belkar Thunderleaf, Roxy Greenshine, Vaaran, Elanicalicus, and Durkon Bittershield.
Also, another piece I tweaked a bit was this fairy whowasceliaandthenwasnot:
to
And finally, I revisited an avatar I made for Krade for Genderbender Week 2010. I remember it got comments about a disparity between the face and the rest of the avvie, so along with some tweaks I changed them to something inspired by an anime style.

While I do agree with the comment about dispartiy between heads and bobies in your style, I have to say the old version still looked much better, in my opinion.
Sorry but those pseudo anime eyes just look damn creepy. (The mouth seems better placed, though)Last edited by smuchmuch; 2012-04-14 at 06:04 PM.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
Both sets of eyes are creepy. I'd try the anime style eyes, but with a normal eye color instead of the yellow (or at least yellow that doesn't blend into the skin as much).

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
I'd say if you keep the anime eye and golden irisses, maybe try making the eyes slightly smaller and have the top of the eye cover the eyes a bit (so the irrises look less like full circle.) It might help.
If you are going for a rather detailled style, maybe you could try putting in the inkling of a nose (even if it's just two small curved lines to keep witht manga style)
And yes the head is rather disproportioante for the body but it doesn't look too bad, IMO. Slightly cartoony proportions are rather common in avatars (not to mention the OOts style ones.) and rather understandable (I mean you can only fit so much setail in a small box and it is the part whose going to be looked at first, so normal to put some emphasis on the head.)Last edited by smuchmuch; 2012-04-14 at 07:02 PM.

Taking Savannah's and your advice into account, I tried to make the eyes slightly smaller, and made much of the iris in deep shadow. I also upped the contrast of the shadow that was outlining the nose.

Having taken the liberty of copying it into my art program so I could resize it to avatar size, all I can say is much. Much, much better.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
Okay looked at it in 120*120 and it's a lot better, IMO. (I still think manga eyes are a bit creepy but that's just a matter of personal preférences here, I think)

Hello all! I'm new to the whole avatar making thing, but I thought that I might have well gotten started...Practice makes perfect I guess. I've been working on Inkscape....here's my second avatar ever. (My first one was too bad to mention. Hey, does anyone know how to make lines thicker or bolder Inkscape?

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
The first one's shadow over the eyes... I think the shadow needs either more hair-like shape, or blurriness. But I like it all, the pose, the boots.
The second one, I'm speechless.
Also, what happened to you, my dear Scarecrow Lady?Last edited by Crimmy : Tomorrow at 26:72 DM.

Yeah, you were right. I added a blur effect and lowered the alpha to 80. It looks much smoother now. Thanks.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
Hey everyone,
I just drew myself a new avatar (its been a while), and I was wondering what you guys think of it, or if there is anything glaring that I managed to miss. He's a character that I'm currently playing in a campaign, and he's been through quite a bit!

New stuff!
Spoiler
SpoilerSpoilerThis is the thief who likes to hoard,
That loves the bard with the puppet Lord
That admires the fighter with the green-hilted sword,
That employs the Wizard, whose bird is ignored,
That has the gender unexplored
That intrigues the Halfling, usually bored,
That slew a mountain of the goblin horde,
That follows the cleric,
That serves the lich,
That seeks the gate,
That guards the snarl,
That lives in the prison the gods built.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase IV
Keep being awesome. That's all there is to say.
Ooh, these are really awesome. Especially after the shadow fix on the first one. Mark me impressed.
Very nicely done. Perhaps the upper arm is a bit awkward. My only real grip is with the shape of the body. It's so straight and ridged when the pose really calls for it not to be. Otherwise I like it, though.
Hm, these avis are rather rough and choppy. Not strictly bad, but I think they could use some tidying up.
Not bad. I think the legs are a bit too long, and the head is certainly too small. Not bad at all for an early avi. *nodnod*
And now, I spent most of today making four avatars.
