Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Trivium are my favourite Metalcore band, and one of the few Metalcore bands I actually like. Although, they're second album was much more along the lines of Thrash Metal and the album after that was a sort of mix between the two genres. They were one of the first bands I saw live and they put on a awesome show. They seem to get quite a lot of hate though, which is stupid.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I dislike metalcore, they are metalcore, end of story.
No hate though.
But I remember them being pushed and hailed as some sort of Metallica for the 2000's so maybe they cannot live up to some sort of externally imposed standard. If you don't grok it, drokk it!

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Well, they were labled as Metalcore and they were "mainstreme"... So... yeah.
That, and people were saying that they were ripping off Metallica, but I wish people would understand the meaning of intertextuality.
On a side note, I finally got round to listening to Frozen Infinity. When it comes to harsh vocals, I'm not usually really in to the the deep growls unless it's for back-up vocals and in some Doom Metal, but you guys pull it off really well. There's some awesome solos and guitar riffs and I love they keys. So, yeah. You guys are awesome.Last edited by Nameless; 2011-10-28 at 03:58 PM.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Has anyone listened to Van Canto's new album, Break the Silence? It's not bad, though they're experimenting a bit much for my taste.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Anyone heard Earth's Hex; or Printing in the Infernal Method? I'm not sure if it's metal, per say, although since it's Earth there's absolutely elements. It's kinda post-rock. (Relatively) clean guitars, some slide guitar, whatnot. But despite a bit of bluegrassiness (which not only did I not mind nearly as much as I thought I would, I actually really enjoy), it's still a crushingly heavy album. Can't really explain how, and I'm sure some of the more traditional-minded among you might argue that point, but give it a try.

Egyptian themed death metal.
Does it really get any better than that.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I picked it up a couple of weeks ago, meaning to listen to it, but then I got distracted by entirely unrelated albums (Dax Riggs' 2010 album, the recent Crippled Black Phoenix album, MBV's Loveless, and more-or-less everything Mogwai). I'm having trouble transitioning back towards it.
That Dax Riggs album is so good, by the way. Easily his best album since Paegan Terrorism Tactics.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
I've got in my hands Alcest's "Écailles de Lune".
I've also discovered it's pretty darn difficult to buy this album in Italy, given that a specialized store in Milan took almost one month to have it...Do I contradict myself?

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Oh come now. Egyptian - themed industrial metal is okay (was never one for industrial, but that aside), but Egyptian themed death metal? All possible retorts are simply invalidated by the awesomeness.
Also, I have just discovered the first Georgian death metal band. Not the state of Georgia. The country of Georgia (my homeland yo). I literally had no idea Georgia had any home-made death metal bands. I am happy.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Heh, see, I never was one for death metal much. And Samael is just so awesome
Also, name of Georgian death metal? (I first read Gregorian death metal for some reason. That would have been so cool)
---
So I got myself Iced Earth's Dystopia yesterday. I really wanted to dislike it because of the new vocalist, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Stu Block's voice meshes well with the music, and the album really sounds good. And those screams are still as awesome as always.
But my album of the year is still Falkenbach's Tiurida. That one absolutely blew me away. It delivered everything I ever want from Falkenbach.Last edited by Feytalist; 2011-11-01 at 08:48 AM.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Is anyone else a fan of Suicidal Tendencies? I recently rediscovered them, and each song I listen to only cements their status as one of the best, and certainly most influential bands of the 80's and 90's. Definitely worth looking into if you enjoy thrash.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Gregorian Death metal.
Holy ****. That would be the greatest goddamn thing ever devised.
Anyway the band in question is Bohema (which apparently, mind you, is also the name of a Polish band, as I discovered by trying to find Bohema on youtube). I did a bit more looking and found Angel of Disease and Manticore, two other Georgian death metal bands.
y'all might not see it as too big ('cos about 90% of people I meet don't even know what the country of Georgia is in the first place @_@) but for a country like Georgia to have its own Death Metal groups when for the longest time just about all heavy metal to be found there was foreign is pretty awesome to me.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
Heh, that's cool.
I'm always interested in checking out "foreign" local bands. See what the scene is like and stuff.
I was the same over here as well when I got into the local scene. "Holy crap, there's South African death metal? ...HOLY CRAP, there's South African POWER METAL :O"
Now we've got a decent scene going over here. Lots of metal fests and tours, even some international exposure for some of our bands.Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Re: Metal Thread V - Defenders of the Faith
There are (or were) quite a few Georgian metal bands out there, most of them in the death and black subgenres, apparently.
The Metal Archives is a nice place to look for exotic bands to check out if you're interested in that sort of thing. I mean, Tajikistan, for Dio's sake...
