Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
Ive basically looked at it as, each time they switch its basically resetting to about the point the last chunk of the story ended. So dies horribly ended up a slave about the time that senor vorpal got captured. That sort of thing. Its not precise, but they always cross over eventually which lets us resync the timelines for the seperate stories. The only issue is, with the minmax team going on their dungeon crawl, im not sure how the timeline can match up with the goblin adventure party. Unless they spent a lot of off camera time walking, they didnt get very far past the escape from the city before Kore showed up. /sigh Of course, we cant even be sure how much after the escape minmax even showed up.

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
The actual timeline isn't that important. The problem is the composition and juxtaposition of scenes is misleading. The problem isn't that I don't know what's happening when, the problem is I'm quite sure the timing is such that the composition of scenes implies a different time frame than what's happening.

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
I think of the comic as of running in the here and now:
it's always the present (unless obviously showing someones memory)
the only jump is in geography (from one group to another)
It's a very simple assumption, and its the only one required to make the comic work.* my emphasis

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
There is however another possibility, that would avoid for the last perspective change to be a jump backward... that is if the Jade teapot that Minmax and Co. are searching for not only teleport its subjects through space, but also through time. After all, it's already described as a non-standard magical item, Kin may not be aware of all its powers. Hence, Minmax might be of higher level than the present when he shows up on the bridge...

PC: Excuse me, what?
DM: I said, roll for initiative. They like their cheese really ripe in these parts. They have the ooze type.
"Excuse me, but... is it a GOOD or a BAD thing when the DM can't help bursting into laughter every time he hears the phrase 'level-appropriate encounter'? No, just curious..."

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
Not at all, just that its harder to make a guy squee over something unbearably cute. And I notice you didnt deny that the whole scene was unbelievably cute. On a more serious note, I wonder when her utter terror over being touched is going to cause problems for the crew? You know there will come a time in the crawl where she will either be dangling over a cliff or minmax will, and itll be up to her to get over the horrific phobia in order to survive/save a life. "GRAB MY HAND KIN!" "DONT TOUCH ME!!!!!!"

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
Probably the latter, causing the former.... But it may actually be harder, given that the Squee reaction probably has stuff to do with babies, but the difference is probably negligable, and over a wide enough range would probably pass for a statistical anomoly due to individual reactions probably being more varied than gender-based reactions. Just my guess.

Ok. I was avoiding the squee discussion, but that last bit made me curious. Please explain.

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
You mean the stuff I said. I was referring to the fact that men have a Falsetto vocal register. I'm not hugely knowledgeable about this stuff, though, and mostly have the, "Well, that's kinda true, but not really," sort of knowledge about it. Bottom line is pretty much all men are capable of using a high voice.

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
Tragically, I've lost my ability to use a falsetto. I could do a great "Filipina" back when I was in the Navy, but a bout with tongue cancer robbed me of that.
And I am a lifelong non-smoker, non-dipper, who only drinks socially. But after the radiation treatment thrashed my vocal cords, I can only use a slightly gravelly version of my "normal" voice. I also can't talk as much as I once could. But I have regained my ability to enjoy spicy foods, so that's a huge plus for me.
So while I might smile is a squee manner, the high pitched squee will never again escape my throat...
So the lesson here is to enjoy what you have, for you may not have it forever.Last edited by Surfing HalfOrc; 2011-01-31 at 06:37 AM.

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
I'm a pretty serious über lurker here, but for some reason decided to register just to clear this up:
Falsetto register works in a fundamentally different fashion from a child's modal register (speaking voice). Modal is a similar vocal fold function before and after a man's voice change, but with significantly larger folds after the fact (children have a falsetto register as well, separate from the speaking voice.) Also, if squeeing feels tense or painful, I would advise the squeer to cease all preventable squeeing.
... I'll try to contribute something less tangential in the future.

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
I never said that guys CANT squee, I said it was harder to make us. Also, I lost my ability to hit high notes after a month long battle with bronchitis and pneumonia. I was coughing so bad my throat was bleeding, I lost my voice for a couple weeks after that, and ever since, my voice hasnt been able to hit higher note values. So if a baritone squee counts I still can, I just cant get the proper ear piercing sound.

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
Have you guys ever considered that in a normal time line the GAP are about to die painful deaths and have there corpses violated by a now beardless dwarf. But the jade teapot takes you to people. And if they happen to be dead when you ask to go meet them...

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
If that were the case, it would be a shame he teleported to Complains instead of say... Chief...
It would also mean Complains would be the next one Kore killed in this alternate future...

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
I would have said that half the characters are Time Lords, but I had assumed that was blatantly obvious.

Re: Goblins V: It's Hard-Kore!
if the goblins are time lords, then Kore must be a Dalek.
Squishy organic insides covered by an impenetrable metal body, one eye, no emotions aside from anger, ranged weaponry, wishes to exterminate, shield...
yup. Totally a Dalek.Avy by Thormag
