To CAP Defence Coalition, Alpha Fleet [+++++ +]:
    Spoiler
    Show
Communication is established with all allied ships within the system.
Lord General Simon to Allied Forces: CAP forces and strike group, please join the main fleet. All units capable to do so will form a attack formation and engage the retreating Hive Mind forces at max. weapon range. Target their engines and rear weapons. As soon as an enemy vessel looses its main engines, switch to another target, but keep your fire coordinated. If possible change your course to avoid the enemy’s weapon range without loosing contact with the main fleet. If this is impossible, coordinate your fire with your neighbours to quickly take out the threat. Keep your eyes out for stealthed Hive Mind ships, mines or kinetic warheads fired or left behind from the enemy fleet.
+ mil of the slower ships will begin to hunt down the scattered enemy ships, while the remaining fleet will follow the attack formation and neutralise the disabled enemies.
The ECM systems keep jamming the Hive Mind communication.

    Implementation:
The attack group forms and chases the Hive Mind ships. As soon as they enter the maximum weapons range of the fleet (i.e. the Griffons X-ray lasers), they will mach acceleration and begin to systematically destroy the engines and rear weapons of enemy ships. (If the hive mind uses gas core engines, nuclear salt water rockets or fusion drives, the chance that this will destroy the entire ship is pretty good.) As soon as an enemy ship is disabled, the pursuing fleet will try to evade its weapon range without loosing contact to the main fleet. If this is not possible, they will concentrate their fire and neutralise the ship as a threat. This should either force the Hive Mind fleet to stop accelerating or leave behind a trail of isolated ships without engine, allowing the entire coalition fleet to either catch up or destroy the Hive Mind ship by ship. The slower ships following the attack group will focus their fire on the disabled ships they overtake, destroying one by one. If either group discovers enemy vessels using their stealth systems, they become primary targets. Mines will be destroyed using the secondary batteries or evaded, kinetic warheads will be evaded.

Meanwhile the + mil ordered to hunt down those scattered – mil enemies, will use a time optimised course to catch each group separately and overwhelm them with superior firepower.

    Lalande 21185:

    Lalande I:
The derelict is incredibly old, 20 or 30 thousand years at least. Between that and the constant exposure to radiation this close to the sun it's surface is heavily damaged. However analysis reveals it to be of similar composition to the dreadnought in the outer system, but that there are composites on the dreadnought that aren't on this derelict. It is quite clearly made by the same race though. There do appear to be ways to access the interior, but they appear to have been heavily damaged.

    Lalande II:
The scientists say that they're going to need a lot more time to really figure things out, but they have a brief summary available. First there is not just one race on this planet, the count is currently at five with the possibility of more. The races are scattered more or less evenly around the planet. The majority of them live in what are basically feudal societies. Iron weapons and animal power essentially being the highest level of technology. There are however a few exceptions. Three civilizations exist in various parts of the planet that appear to have reached their industrial revolutions. Another two are close to it. And most surprising is that on landmass that is exceptionally well isolated from the other by oceans there to be two distinct civilizations that have reached early space age levels. The also appear to be locked in a cold war.

Some of the derelicts are towed away. Preliminary analysis indicates that they were made by different races.

    Lalande III:
Analysis of the spores and the planets ecology begins. Meanwhile non of the modified drones last long. The plastic coated drones were hit with more spores. The ceramic drones appear to have actually been shot down by plants with projectile like seeds which proceeded to sprout on the drones. And the wood coated were stripped of their coatings by what the scientists describe as "multi-jawed, armored termites the size of your hand."

The soldiers locate an airlock on the alien ship, unfortunately however it is locked and there is still no response from inside.

    Lalande IV:
OOC: That was a typo. It was a single torpedo.

It was a fairly powerful torpedo loaded with a standard nuclear warhead. By itself the warship probably would not stand a chance. The alien ship is quite large, in fact it looks like whatever their version of an exploration ship is, and it has launched it's own outrider warships to watch you. It is also ignoring the hails, which is not unexpected.

    Lalande V:
The gas giant is nothing too impressive. It has the standard array of elements in it's atmosphere, hydrogen, helium, trace amounts of other gases.

The derelicts really don't seem significant. The analysts think they are simply more ships that fell into the dreadnoughts trap. So they are towed back to the warp gate and salvage operations begin. (- temp econ)

    Asteroid Belt I:
Communications are established with damaged ship. They say that say that they suffered damage from a old weapons platform that wasn't quite as derelict as they thought. They destroyed it, but suffered damage to their engines in the process. A scan of the surrounding area reveals some drifting wreckage which backs up their claim, and now that the scout's crew knows what to look for they spot some more abandoned platforms, mining complexes, even a few ships. All of which are very old.

    Lalande VI:
The drones were simply there one moment and gone the next. Very careful scans of their old locations reveal a slightly higher amount of matter and background radiation in the area. The sensor techs believe that this is the remains of the drones. and that whatever happened simply vaporized them.

From the distance they're at the other vessels can't tell anything new. The derelicts appear to be completely dead, and the gas giant a normal, if slightly larger than average, example of its kind.

    Asteroid Belt II:
The drones can't find any sort of projectors, and all sensors including the mass-spectrometers are being affected by some sort of distortion so it's impossible to tell. However while the drones have been searching the miners have not been ignoring them. One of the vessels approaches several of the drones and uses a set of manipulators to reach inside them. The drone still can't detect anything and their telemetry indicates nothing out of the ordinary.

    Lalande VII:
There appear to be several cargo hatches and airlocks, and they open easily. Inside is what is essentially a warehouse that appears to be packed with cargo crates.

    Derelict:
OOC: Your military ships are not equipped to strip the derelict. You would need large scale mining operations to do that. Remember this thing is the size of a moon. There's a lot of material involved. Even just trying to blow it away with weapons fire would take a long time.

To the Glorious Kingdom of Procyon
    Spoiler

    GJ 1061:
The alien ship is ignoring the hail and its shields block any attempts at scanning it making its armament uncertain. But at the very least it appears to have some substantial missile armament. It has already launched several missile salvos filling the space between the battling ships. Fortunately for the GKPV Simons I it's ECM is sufficient to throw off most of the missiles and own shields are holding against the ones that do get through. However it's own mass drivers are having little effect on the alien's shields. The battle is currently a stalemate.

    Procyon:
The alien mercenaries make no response, but move to monitor the warp gate.

After some extensive searches through the databases the scientists conclude that the aliens ships appear most like the Kej. They simply don't correspond to any known Kej drone patterns. And the fact that you hired mercenaries from him kind of indicates that you can't provide protection either. All right, if you would help us get into contact with them.

By distant, you mean culturally or spatially? Because we believe that, as it wasn't particularly difficult even for us to create FTL communications with the kind of technology we're describing, that shouldn't be such a problem for them, who specialize in it?

Meanwhile, would you be able to provide improved security systems? We're particularly interested in the type that would allow us to track the ones attempting to break in. We have had some trouble recently by infiltrators from a group we cannot trace.

Another point of interest would be high-power mining equipment, if you have any available.

If the resources of the ships I've committed prove insufficient for the task, we'll bring in more ships through the gate. It's our system now, and we don't have the best(ish) manufactoring capacity of all for nothing. Freighters, personnel, drones, mining craft, builder craft, armed escorts, real warships... anything that's required.

    Lalande I
We begin preparations to clear one of the entrances so we can get deeper. Other than that, well, it's an effin' planet-sized starship. Even if I can't study it from the inside, it's a PLANET-SIZED LUMP OF PRE-PROCESSED MATERIAL. That's GOT to be worth a ton of Econ to mine, once I get bases set up.

    Lalande II
Can we match the derelict styles to any of the races down there?

We attempt to contact both of the civilizations on the verge of space age without tipping off the others.

    Lalande III
Okay, that's not natural. That stuff is biologically engineered against machinery-using races.

Continue the biological analysis, we're not going to commit to killing off the biosphere before we know what the heck is going on down there.

With no response, we'll begin drilling through the airlock to get inside.

    Lalande IV
Well then, we'll be watching it from a distance and trying to figure out what it's doing. Meanwhile we'll be bringing a number of additional warships on-site. Nothing threatening, just enough to match its force.

    Lalande V
Seems like there's nothing more to do here then. We'll salvage the derelicts and put a couple scientific measurement devices around the planet and leave it at that for now.

    Asteroid Belt I
We tow the damaged ship back to our facilities to be repaired, after asking for permission. Meanwhile, we continue studying the field itself and the ancient emplacements. Is there anything worthwhile here? I'd assume not, considering there's two planetary bodies filled with minable materials, but it's always worth mapping the place out with drones.

    Lalande VI
    Whut. :/
Random vaporization seems like it could have interesting military applications, if I could figure out how the hell it happened.

We'll be making as detailed measurements of the planet as possible from a distance empirical testing determines as safe (that is, the closest distance our drones don't get vaporized at), as well as attempting to magnetically tow a derelict or two away from the planet for further study.

    Asteroid Belt II

We fire a number of beams and signals and even rocks through the distortion field and receive them on the other side to figure out what the field is doing exactly. Other than that, if we can locate anything that seems likely to be causing the interference, we'll blast it from outside it's range. If we can't, we'll begin bringing ships to position to indiscriminately blast stuff from range. This system is to be pacified, period.

    Lalande VII
Allow me to be sceptical of the apparent safety of this place. We take all appropriate precautions and scan the crates before opening them. Then we take one crate outside into space and open it. Then we thoroughly examine the contents, unless they attack us in which case we vaporize them.

    Derelict
If my ships aren't equipped for a mining operation, then I'll begin constructing mining stations on the thing. As well as scientific research bases. Guarded by military. This is a large reserve of material for my shipyards, just floating there, begging to be used.

Meanwhile, heavily armed and armoured scientific expeditions are sent as deep down into the superstructure of the thing as we can get, trying to find out more about it.

Some diplomats begin initiating talks with the CAP, gauging the possibility of them joining the military alliance with the Commonwealth if not outright joining the Commonwealth itself. After us saving them and the strong reminder of the threat of staying alone, perhaps they'd be interested.

Once YZ Ceti is properly pacified and we're ready to leave, we officially transfer the ownership of the areas back to the Anarchists and head back home. Or, well, our military in it's entirety heads to Lalande to support the colonization efforts there. The plasma cannon will be especially useful. The temporary Star Gods' research base will be, with their consent, moved to Lalande as well - they want to study the system with us anyway, especially the derelict, so they shouldn't mind.

The CAP hasn’t suffered that much damage. The Hive Mind didn’t have a lot of time to ravage the system, due to Coalition’s prompt response. They are very grateful for the rescue and willing to provide (+++++ +) of temp. Economy and rights to all salvage in the system to the Coalition.

The Commonwealth Ships use a Kej Repair Signal, provided to them by the Reach. Soon swarms of Kej are busy fixing ship hulls and retrieving valuable equipment and materials, that was lost in the void of space.

We're okay with the proposed split, but perhaps we should just refuse the Temp Econ? After all, it is the CAP themselves who were the worst hit by this attack, and they need their resources to rebuild.

TGKOP agrees with the Commonwealth, but the CAP is proud. It might be possible that they offered us the resources to avoid being indebted to us. If we refuse them, they might feel offended. We have a different proposal. We could use these resources to start a foundation, dedicated towards helping those struck by war or natural desaster. This way we can support the CAP in its rebuilding effort and still accept their offer.

    CAP Defense Coalition

The idea is sound, but there already are NGOs who do that, and they're already set up and efficient. The funds of nations willing to help are best given to these groups, for a government-driven organization for that purpose is all-too-easily used for political purposes.

We should ask whether the CAP would refuse the Temp Econ. If they do, we will accept our share and use it to invest in CAP companies. Let the market forces do as they will, as we will more often do harm than good to the economy with overt tampering. We will also give them discounts on the construction of new ships, if they wish to use their new capital for that. Every nation's economy is reliant on the galactic economy, and we believe helping them like this is the best way if they are intent on rebuilding themselves.

    To CAP:
House Varulf offers their share of the salvage to the CAP for rebuilding efforts. They also try to convince the Commonwealth to do likewise.

The proposed deals will provide lucrative terms for Commonwealth, Ascension Coalition and Glorious Kingdom of Procyon. CAP is a leading producer of Agri and Low-Tech Goods, so should you accept these deals, you can receive greater benefit from any project using them.

The mutual defense treaties will provide free supplies and maintenance for the warships of the Coalition nations passing through the system.
