Re: My Little Pony III: The Great & Powerful Thread
While that is an awesome name, sadly his horseshoes are all facing the wrong way to be symbols of luck (in fact, I think downward facing horseshoes are a bad omen).
So if a gambler pony he be, he'd have to be something like Last Chance. Alternatively, he could be employed by the pony casinos and his cutie mark would represent the house advantage, in which case we name him Ace.

Re: My Little Pony III: The Great & Powerful Thread
Wouldn't it be, Aces Wild, because every pony has 2 part names?
Except Rarity or the Trixie.
I guess he can be an individual like them with just Ace.Last edited by Starbuck_II; 2011-03-22 at 04:13 PM.

Also, the exceptions to the Two Name thing prove the rule: Rarity and Trixie are both kind of arrogant ponies, and in real life, people who go by one name do so because they expect you to know WHICH Madonna they are.

Re: My Little Pony III: The Great & Powerful Thread
Soft Serve delightfully suits your pony.
As for the pony with hoof marks on his flank, I see a smith myself. Maybe (as the down-pointing shoes indicate) one who is down on his luck, but a smith nonetheless.
Therefore, I give him the name...
Cast Ore!
@One-name Ponies: Applejack is one name as far as I can tell.
In fact, naming convention seems to be "you get exactly one name and, while you may be connected to a family, it is less important" for the pony universe. Otherwise, the name "Big Macintosh" would imply a huge lack of creativity on the Macintosh family. ;p
In fact, isn't it implied that their last name is Applebuck? So then maybe one's "first name" can be two words if desired, or one word if not.

Re: My Little Pony III: The Great & Powerful Thread
Keep in mind that many if not most of the ponies in this show have names that are lifted directly from or are derivative names from the original 80s show. And back then they were simply marketing ploys just like Pound Puppies (bleh) or Transformers (awesome). The pony universe likely lacks any naming convention as stringent as what even the most basic of societies enforce on earth.
It basically boils down to us thinking too much about it. They have names, the names fit them, that's about it.
On another topic, who's cranking out pony avatars?Last edited by Soilborn; 2011-03-22 at 04:57 PM.

Re: My Little Pony III: The Great & Powerful Thread
Oooh, that one's hard...
I think we need more info on him. He's clearly a mad scientist kind of guy, but what KIND of mad doctor is he? Is he into the crackling electricity type of powers? The evil experiments on biological life forms type? Or is he more of a mixed bag?
Moreover, is he a card-carrying mad scientist? And his his madness more of an "I'm superior and carry myself as such" sort of mad, or more of an "I hold a grudge against the world!" sort of mad?
All these things make a difference. Though judging by his body...I'd say...Dr. Beaker, just for starters.
Incidentally, whenever Alterform finishes my ponytar (not rushing, just saying I'm thinking ahead), I've come up with a name for him.
He shall be...Floppy Disk!

Re: My Little Pony III: The Great & Powerful Thread
Welp, at least I now have something else than Art of the Dress going round in my head.
How can these songs be so catchy? I was fixing my bikes today and I played AotD once. I then played it again. Then I decided to just roll with it and stuck it on repeat. I was still singing along the fifteenth time around.
I don't think that qualifies as sane anymore.
Guess I just got toCitius, Altius, Fortuis

Re: My Little Pony III: The Great & Powerful Thread
Given the immense power of friendship, and his status as an earth pony and thus his inability to use magic, plus his status as a rational scientist in a world where magic exists, I think he is fixated on trying to harness friendship into a weaponised form, either to seize power from Princess Celestia (regular) or in the service of her empire (Iron Hoof). "You shall ALL be my friends, whether you like it or not! HAHAHA!"
