Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
Ok, that was downright awesome. Play by play thoughts:
SpoilerCybermen?
Guys in robes, eh? I'm curious. Who are they?
What? The Doctor?
Ah, Rory. Clever. Fear the centurion.
Good message. Rory does intimidating well.
Looks like they're worried about the doctor.
Hmm? Who's that?
Hehe, know the Doctor, know his techniques, know his psychic paper.
Headless monks?
Hehe, nice.
Those monks are quite spooky.
She's met him? When was this? Still, I'm not surprised he said run.
Conversion? Decapitation?
Oooh, London 1888 . I wonder who this is?
Silurian? What's she doing awake?
Scratch that, what's she doing in this time?
Who's that? I'm saying this a lot.
Sontarans now?!
Sontaran Doctor? Hehe, I like his bedside manner.
I like this Sontaran.
And River's off again. Breaking in this time. Hehe.
Stevie Wonder sang in 1814 under London Bridge. Little Ice Age.
Oh dear. That sounds bad. River's good at the ominous forshadowing though
Hmm, he's the guy who sold the time jumpy stuff to River last series. Who she fed the mini-nuke to.
Nice story behind the name. It's almost like a prophecy. It may be a prophecy. It may be named by the Doctor.
Not the Devil, 'cause he dropped the devil in to a black hole.
Quite frankly, I'd rather face any of those he mentioned that the Doctor when he's angry.
Doctor will fall? No he won't.
Papal mainframe? Intriguing.
Thought so. They really are headless.
BRILLIANT!!!
That's a lot of guns. Ooh, laser swords. Nice.
That wasn't him.
Disarming. Not like weapons can help anyway.
Soldiers of god? Hmmm, I wonder. Could this be the catholic church militant?
It appears they are fools. They kidnapped Amy.
Yay! Spitfires in space again!
Huzzah! Space pirates!
Is it really Rory? That sounds like a sonic. Could be him.
It is him!
I can't help but wonder if the Doctor is joking about speaking baby.
Never risen higher... oh dear.
... Sontaran breast feeding. There's something wrong with that.
Whose cot I wonder? Susan's mother/father? The doctor has had children. He has a grandchild.
Ah, the Doctors cot. The cot of a timelord...
The doctor's not a good liar.
Human and Time Lord?
On their wedding night.
Not the Doctor's baby, but a baby born on the TARDIS.
What war indeed?
A war against the Doctor? Who is this woman? Why's she and her superiors at war with the Doctor?
Is the Silurian flirting with her servant?
A second flesh copy!
The baby was a substitute. I suspected it, but... DAMN YOU MOFFAT!!!
That was interesting, the Silurian telling Rory he was a nurse.
And Song arrives late. As she said she would.
Who is she...? WHO IS SHE!
WHO IS SHE!!!
Wait... song? Song!
A melody?!
HAH! I was right!
That was a pretty darn big reveal. Well done.
Oh, and a post credits scene. Cool.
Oh. That's ominous.

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
That was good.
That was a horrible place to leave for the summer.
Rory is now the best character ever.
Spoiler
Still hate River Song.
Will never ever ever want to hear about Sontaran milk again.
That tongue joke huh?
Best A-Team ever.

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
That sums it up pretty well. I'm now sorely tempted to watch it again a couple of times.
SpoilerSo who were some of those people? Have we seen the Silurian before? What about the soldier?
Also
SpoilerI think we've pretty much got it confirmed now. Rory is the Good Man. Which means he's going to die. River's going to kill him.Last edited by Aidan305; 2011-06-04 at 01:37 PM.

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
Spoiler
Very good.
Pulling all the serialization threads that have been woven, and pulling them quite strongly. Somebody want to compile a list of who all the "Doctor's Army" were?
I saw the River Song=Melody Pond twist coming fairly early but it was still well done. The Baby is Flesh twist I didn't catch.
I just thought it was good basically. Lots of threads got resolved, new ones got opened up. It was all done in a compelling way.

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
SpoilerRory's enterance was brilliant.
"Do i have to ask again?"
where is the doctor going?
we know River Melody dies at the Library. and we assume the Doctor gets killed by a young River in the space suit...
Time lords are created by proximity to the Vortex eh....

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
SpoilerQuestion for the more timey-wimey members of the playground: does the Dr. know for sure he will get Melody back since River is alive & kicking there, thus taking a nice leisurely detour to kill Hitler, or can he still fail and screw the universe royally?
Also: Let's Kill Hitler? I may be overestimating how sensitive people are about stuff but that seems like a heck of a gamble by the writers.

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
SpoilerI thought it was supposed to be rather unclear if the Good Man was Rory or the Doctor, beginning with the opening of Rory the Badass Roman Centurion confronting the Cybermen. And Rory in that fight scene against the Jedi-Ringwraiths.
If Amy is Flesh and Melody is Flesh, what stops absolutely anyone else from being? Eyepatch Woman is pretty hard to actually capture if she always acts via Flesh Proxy.

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
Serious coolness, and nice revelation about River there!
Spoiler
Pretty sure most people assumed that with a "Jenny" in the credits we'd be seeing the Doctor's daughter again, but Jenny just turned out to be the Silurian woman's servant...deliberate misdirection, or the audience putting 2 and 2 together to make 5?
It also now makes more sense why the Doctor would have called River, Amy and Rory together in episode 1 despite it being 200 years since he first met them--River is his wife or whatever, and the other two are her parents!

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
SpoilerThat's interesting. The Headless Monkes were referenced in the previous series. The museum where River got the message to the doctor, the Delerium Asteroid, was referred to as "The last resting place of the headless monks."

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
Theory:
SpoilerRiver has some kind of 'kill the doctor' compulsion put into her that the Doctor has to sacrifice himself to remove, hence his death at the start of the series.
Then there's that the Silence don't make things themselves, they suggest that others make them for themLast edited by Closet_Skeleton; 2011-06-04 at 02:20 PM.

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
SpoilerA bit from column A, a bit from column B, I'd say.
As for the reveal, meh. I thought it was a bit trite, fairly cliched and not the kind of thing that leaves jaws on floors. More the kind of thing that has you think, "Oh. So why the big deal if that was all it was?"
The name for the next episode was fun, though. And the ominous image was cool.
But I'm sick of boring directors choosing to film in a big space and making it feel as big as it really is. It just makes the show look like it's not capable of filling the sets.
When it comes to Time Lords and the time vortex, proximity isn't what makes them. Training at the Time Lord Academy is what makes them. But in biological terms, proximity to the Untempered Schism altered their biology. In effect, mutating them away from their original genetic pattern into mildly telepathing beings that can regenerate from terminal injury and are capable of perceiving time all at once rather than following the arrow of time.

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
SpoilerThis all implies that the thing the Doctor was running from at the beginning of the series, 'faster than he's ever run' for 200 years, was River Song.

...because it is called that?
Seriously, this episode kind of seemed to run on random awesome for me. When the next episode title came up it just felt like someone was making a joke on us."that nighted, penguin-fringed abyss" - At The Mountains of Madness, H.P. Lovecraft

Re: Doctor Who (again) [SPOILERS]
No, it's just that the title seems totally irrelevant to the content of the episode. And NOW I get to watch "The Almost People" this week. Memorial Day weekend delays are not important in the age of DVRs, BBC!
