Re: LaLa's Laughably Silly Random Banter Thread - RB #158
Good question, although, since we had a Princess Peach, I didn't get to say (or rather, coerce Toad into saying) "Sorry, but our princess is in another castle."
Also, lucky me had my parents make my suit (mum sewed the shirt and trousers while dad made the buttons and the cap), and it turned out really awesome. For the mustache I bought a fake moustache with a similar but still wrong shape, and cut it into three pieces that puzzled together would make it good enough. However, it turned out that the mustache originally only had glue in the middle, so two of the pieces lacked glue. As a hasty solution, I glued all three pieces onto a piece of stiff paper and then I glued it all to my upper lip with rich amounts of common glue stick.
Not expecting it to hold for seven hours, I put the gluestick in my pocket so that I could apply more later. To much surprise, however, it held surprisingly well, and lasted all the night and back home, while still not being hard to remove. Those who had used real theater glue (Obelix, for example) complained about itching and burning, which I didn't have to suffer either.Last edited by Teddy; 2011-05-18 at 01:55 PM.

But Return of Jafar is actually really good.
Which is unfortaunte because it inspired the other DTV sequels.Last edited by LaZodiac; 2011-05-18 at 02:21 PM.

That assumes perfect setting knowledge sir. And a return was pretty much foreshadowed by the Genie basically going, "ok... you're making him... a Genie?!"

I need to see Labyrinth. And to see Willow again, because I barely remember it. Haven't heard of Legend before and know nothing about Secret of NIMH.
Dark Crystal and Watership Down? Big films of my childhood. Love them so much.
Princess Bride I came to later, but it's good too.
No! Don't you dare.
You're insane. I wish to hear more.
Just assume we're all shapechangers and it's fine!
Typos happen, y'know.
Nonsense. Everyone knows it's down to the Sock Eater!
*glingleglingleglingle*
Damn.
That's really pretty cool. I'm impressed.
I think I already said that.
Or at least I altered a quote to make it appear that someone else said that.
Curly makes everything better.
I thought the Genie just flicked the lamp off into the desert.
Oh.
Well, either way, Iago dug them out as I recall.
This just puts me in mind of The Mikado.

YES. THERE ALWAYS IS."

Re: LaLa's Laughably Silly Random Banter Thread - RB #158
Mmm, I think there's this place called the Vatican that basically exists to collect notes.
Douay-Rheims. Halp. I used to have that in my favourites before my Great Crash. It wasn't bad, but the name drove me mad. What's with French and their vowel groups?!
Mmm, that's basically what I do. Plus a lot of guessing. Guessing is good.
So very true! That band that Zaydos mentioned back a bit is good for Middle English though. highly recommended.
Pyramids is fun. I first read it just coming off an Ancient Egypt phase, so I got a fair bit of the mythological jokes. Not my favourite, but definitely not my least favourite.
And I simply adore it for the Djelibeybi pune. Pratchett is a master.
And that's one reason I want to get my grasping claws on it. It's all depravity in a vaguely bureaucratic setting.
Probably inspired Good Omens, same with the man below. You read that book? Glorious isn't it?
Well, he's not approaching Wilde levels of wit, but he's definitely at Churchillian levels.
I am very impressed that my spellcheck says 'Churchillian' is a word. Now if only it said 'movie' was.
I'll give them a look over. If nothing else, at least I gave it a stab eh?
Your country really is sillily large (there are silver sparkles dancing in my vision, should I worry?), so I can see how the tendency is towards specialisation. That alcohol poisoning line of yours made me giggle.
Honestly, I think teenagers are sex mad. I don't see the appeal myself. It's icky. 'Course, I'm an impressively immature child, so give me five, six years and I'll probably admit to it being tolerable. Maybe.
I wouldn't say most celibates are loners though. Just uncaring as to what people think of them.
He was very sexy. As was Catherine Zeta Jones. And Anthony Hopkins. I wish to watch that film again. Friend Who Does French actually squeaked in fangirlish glee when the dance scene started. made me go back and watch it again, not that I objected; it was a paso doble danced by Zeta Jones and Banderas. Who could object to that?!
Do they at least try?
Oh, if you like sixteenth-century papal bashing I recommend reading Webster's The Duchess of Malfi. Unrequited incestuous love, ghosts, murder (of many, many sorts), adultery, poison plots, treachery and insanity all set in the lovely hills of Italy.
Plus the absurdly misogynistic Bosolo. Even though the play is remarkably feminist.
You're like the Candyman. I mentioned your name in my post as I was typing it, and low and behold, you posted before I even posted wishing you were around.
Yes. Those are great films. Shame there aren't many good unicorn films out there though.
What Fred said. I think I was typing another sentence, decided to cut it, deleted the majority of it, but forgot to change 'it's' to 'its'. It happens. Silly brain.
Corrections bolded in the thing itself. Notes below, in order:
1. I don't think French has an idiomatic expression for 'birthday girl', but it would be better written as such, literally meaning 'the girl of the birthday'.
2. No need for an 's' on the end of 'chere' as you're only addressing one person.
3. And yes, 'friend' is still masculine inasmuch as you use 'mon', but you still need to indicate that your friend is female, so use the female ending -e. The French get touchy about having a word ending in a vowel next to a word beginning in a vowel.
4. The best verb for '[for someone] to have fun' is 's'amuser', and seeing as you're both good friends I went for the informal imperative. Literally, it would mean 'enjoy yourself at Paris'.
That's some good vindication. At uni I'm just another student. A very quiet one.
I babble. And hold preposterously long chats and abuse the multiquote button a little too often methinks.
I got to you!
*boogie*
My life's work is now complete.
Disney has always been dark, this is just the darkest movie as a whole they've ever done.
Shame about those flipping gargoyles though. Utter tat the lot of them.
Come back when you've seen yes, we can fanboy together no?
Eh, as I said above, Disney does dark moments more than they do dark films. It's not often Disney's animated fare goes the route of small-scale genocide, lustful obsession leading to the perversion of religion and so on.
Oh, and onscreen casual murder of humans.
To a background for fourteenth-century Europe replete with amazing choral music full of double meaning.
Saw Pirates 4 in 3D today.
I very much enjoyed this film. Ranking it I'd go, 1, 4, 2, 3. But I've never seen three.
But seriously, I paid £7.80 to see this film, and it was well worth the price for the opening twenty minutes alone.
And I have never said that about a film in Oxcamfordbridge before.
More talk tomorrow.
Kahnackered beyond belief, and have an essay due that is currently at zero words.
Bathatar!
