Disney has always been kinda dark. Look at how Ursula died in The Little Mermaid, for example. Hell look at most of the things involving the antagonist of Sleeping Beauty, whose name eludes me at the moment.

Good question, although, since we had a Princess Peach, I didn't get to say (or rather, coerce Toad into saying) "Sorry, but our princess is in another castle."

Also, lucky me had my parents make my suit (mum sewed the shirt and trousers while dad made the buttons and the cap), and it turned out really awesome. For the mustache I bought a fake moustache with a similar but still wrong shape, and cut it into three pieces that puzzled together would make it good enough. However, it turned out that the mustache originally only had glue in the middle, so two of the pieces lacked glue. As a hasty solution, I glued all three pieces onto a piece of stiff paper and then I glued it all to my upper lip with rich amounts of common glue stick.

Not expecting it to hold for seven hours, I put the gluestick in my pocket so that I could apply more later. To much surprise, however, it held surprisingly well, and lasted all the night and back home, while still not being hard to remove. Those who had used real theater glue (Obelix, for example) complained about itching and burning, which I didn't have to suffer either.

So yesterday I saw this for the first time. First of all, when did Disney suddenly get so dark? Second of all, this song is awesome. Completely so. It also helps if you pay attention to the Latin and Koine Greek. I think I might need to go see this movie now, since I missed it when it came out when I was four.

Hellfire! That's like my total favorite! Very dark, but most kids will think he's singing about how much he hates her, so it slips by until you get a lot older. I love it though, a brilliant song.

I used to love Watership Down and Secret of NIMH too.

Yeah, few books are written over so many time periods by so many people. It gives it a lot of depth and complexity, never mind the fact that things like differences between the Septuagint and the Masoretic add a whole other layer to it. I think one could easily fill a library with a really comprehensive set of notes.

Also, when it comes to old school translations, Douay Rheims is the way to go.

Well I try not to rely too heavily, but some things stick out so much that it's hard for me to not pick out what they mean, in particular if it's part of a formula that I myself know in a couple other languages.

Pyramids is fun. I first read it just coming off an Ancient Egypt phase, so I got a fair bit of the mythological jokes. Not my favourite, but definitely not my least favourite.
And I simply adore it for the Djelibeybi pune. Pratchett is a master.

I don't know if he made it dull. He did make it subtle though. It's not overt, but the more you read Screwtape the more you realize how truly insidious and twisted he is. Unlike some authors who might put some tiny amount of good into a demon, even if it is by accident, C.S. Lewis just makes him utterly depraved. He's one of the more interesting depictions of a demon ever done in literature. If you can get our hands on Screwtape Proposes a Toast. It's something of a mini-sequel, and it's excellent.

And that's one reason I want to get my grasping claws on it. It's all depravity in a vaguely bureaucratic setting.

I don't know what work to recommend to him. I'm mostly familiar with his apologetic stuff, not his fiction, which I think might interest you more. If you are interested in his apologetics get The Everlasting Man, the book that made C.S. Lewis the man that he was.

As for how these colleges get these reputations, I'm also somewhat confused by it. I think it might just be the sheer size of this country. With more colleges and universities, you just end up naturally tending towards specialization, even if that specialization is in alcohol poisoning.

And yes they did spend quite a while discussing it. I think the issue is whether or not one can do it of their own will, or because they just can't get anyone. I'm guessing they assumed that all celibates are loners, while I tend to be a rather contrary example since I broke up with a girl to go to seminary.

I think I might like this more than Marlowe's version. It has all the things that I would seem to like. Although Marlowe's comedic bits are fun, in particular the absurd papal beating.

Oh, if you like sixteenth-century papal bashing I recommend reading Webster's The Duchess of Malfi. Unrequited incestuous love, ghosts, murder (of many, many sorts), adultery, poison plots, treachery and insanity all set in the lovely hills of Italy.
Plus the absurdly misogynistic Bosolo. Even though the play is remarkably feminist.

Corrections bolded in the thing itself. Notes below, in order:
1. I don't think French has an idiomatic expression for 'birthday girl', but it would be better written as such, literally meaning 'the girl of the birthday'.
2. No need for an 's' on the end of 'chere' as you're only addressing one person.
3. And yes, 'friend' is still masculine inasmuch as you use 'mon', but you still need to indicate that your friend is female, so use the female ending -e. The French get touchy about having a word ending in a vowel next to a word beginning in a vowel.
4. The best verb for '[for someone] to have fun' is 's'amuser', and seeing as you're both good friends I went for the informal imperative. Literally, it would mean 'enjoy yourself at Paris'.

Disney has always been dark, this is just the darkest movie as a whole they've ever done.

Well, lets look at Lion King. The main villain's villain song has goose stepping Hyena's in it. Disney has always had that twinge of dark to it, that's almost always there hiding in the background, waiting for you to notice.

Some movies show it more noticibly though.

Eh, as I said above, Disney does dark moments more than they do dark films. It's not often Disney's animated fare goes the route of small-scale genocide, lustful obsession leading to the perversion of religion and so on.
Oh, and onscreen casual murder of humans.
To a background for fourteenth-century Europe replete with amazing choral music full of double meaning.

Saw Pirates 4 in 3D today.
I very much enjoyed this film. Ranking it I'd go, 1, 4, 2, 3. But I've never seen three.
But seriously, I paid £7.80 to see this film, and it was well worth the price for the opening twenty minutes alone.
And I have never said that about a film in Oxcamfordbridge before.
