Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Word.
Last I heard they were working on material for a new album. They actually recorded a few sessions with my old choir, so it should be suitably epic.
Also, if you're interested, you might find this amusing.Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Drinking much, random song DJing (as I often do). Faulty would be pleased...it's turning into a Coil heavy mix.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
So the new Phoenix album, Bankrupt!, is out. I like it, I think it's pretty good. Granted, it's not as impressive as their last album, but was anyone honestly expecting it to be?

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Out of curiosity, is there a term for when a song's music stops, but the lyrics continue? I realized just now that I really like the effect that this has on the song, but I don't know if it's a thing or if it's just something that's done.
A good example of this can be found at 3:14 of this song.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I rarely break out my 10/10 score for any song but, damn, I think I found one. I won't say what it is here because I know OJN lurks here and he's not ready yet. Little does he know his entire training has been leading up to this one song.
Well, he knows now.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I'd call it an a capella break, and often done for dramatic purposes in a song. A similar common technique is to drop most (but not all) the instrumental sounds and let the voice carry over a minimal backing (see the break in almost every vocal dance electronica song ever...or sometimes break, and let the voice be the first instrument that returns as part of the build-up). As for a western classical theory term for it, not sure. But if you say a capella break, most people will know what you're talking about.

Anybody enjoy volbeat? Or Tool?
I am just a worthless liar.
I am just an imbecile.
I will only complicate you.
Trust in me and fall as well.
I will find a center in you.
I will chew it up and leave,
I will work to elevate you
Just enough to bring you down.
Tool.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
A few days ago the band Savages released their debut album and I've fallen in love. They're old school post-punk that's very reminiscent of bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and Joy Division. Here's my favorite song from the album (though the spoken word bit is different on the album), but they're all good. Anyone else hear about them yet?
At the heart of all beauty lies something inhuman, and these hills, the softness of the sky, the outline of the trees at this very minute lose the illusory meaning with which we clothed them, henceforth more remote than a lost paradise.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
So what are everyone's 2013 "Album of the Year" shaping up to be?
Me? It's a tough call. I loved that James Ferraro mixtape "Cold". The new My Bloody Valentine was surprisingly not disappointing. Gucci Mane's "Trap God 2" was about as brilliant as you'd expect. Still, in the end, I have to give this to ex-GY!BE collaborator Rob Mazurek's new album with his jazz octet "Skull Sessions". Utterly fantastic album, that.
NOTE: Though if this Ghostface Killah album continues the way it's going that'll be in the top five.

Eisley's Currents so far. Not surprised really, they improve with each album.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Come to think of it Debashish Bhattacharya's "Beyond the Ragasphere" would make a top five spot. And not just because it features The Mahavishnu Orchestra's own John McLaughlin on it.
Though that does help.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I'd say I've listened to three albums from this year that I would call amazing: Holy Fire by Foals, Smile That Wont Go Down by Filthy Boy and Shut Up by Savages. Interestingly enough two of the three were debut releases.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
Savages got "single of the week" on iTunes last week. The reviews were the reason the plebs shouldn't be allowed to comment on music.

Re: Can we just do another music thread?
I didn't think 2012 was too great for music, but 2013 has been fantastic so far. I'd say my top 5 as of now are:
Foals - Holy Fire
The Besnard Lakes - Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO
Atoms For Peace -Amok
My Bloody Valentine - mbv (mainly a nostalgia thing; Loveless is probably my favourite album of all time)
The Joy Formidable - Wolf's Law
For some reason I've got round to picking up Savages' album yet, but I saw them live a couple of weeks ago. They were rather good, to say the least.Allergy advice: posts may contain traces of sarcasm
