Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Hi all,
I'm still around, but I'm going to need help sorting through all the comments of late. What I'm going to do is compile all the comments that seem to have a measure of consensus (or have otherwise gone unchallenged), and post them in a list here. I'll do that sometime this evening. Then we can sort through them together.
The reason for this is that I'm pressed for time at the moment... I'm a doctoral student in philosophy, and this end-of-the-year stretch has a lot of deadlines for me, so it is even busier than usual! So I probably won't have time to even read all the comments, meaning I'm going to depend extra on you guys to make the decisions here.
I'll try to post all the comments this evening.
After we sort through the comments we'll vote on which quotes need to be removed from the index.
After that we will implement the new tables format to the index... I see Jasdoif is already way ahead of me on that (thanks!!!) so that shouldn't be too much of a hassle to implement."And yet, will we ever come to an end of discussion and talk if we think we must always reply to replies? For replies come from those who either cannot understand what is said to them, or are so stubborn and contentious that they refuse to give in even if they do understand." - St. Augustine

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Spoiler: Quotes, Quotes, Quotes1: Disintegrate is useful.
2: The IFCC are not a nod to the Shadowlords from Ultima V in any way shape or form.[/QUOTE]
3: How to financially support the Giant.
4, 5: Two shiny new additions about armies in D&D settings.
6, 7: Edit: Make it four, although I think the third doesn't quite belong here.
8: Why the alignment system is useful in D&D http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showt...6#post16119916
9: Tarquin is only OK with wasting soldiers when it's his decision.
10, 11: Every baby, including all colors of dragon babies, should have the same stat block--including alignment entry.
It is very possible that I missed some, so if I did -- please repost them. Regarding the above quotes, please vote for them by number, in bold type.
You MAY discuss among yourselves whether each quote should be included, just make sure your vote is in BOLD so I can find it in all the discussion.Last edited by ThePhantasm; 2013-10-22 at 11:13 PM.

Regarding 8, it literally only mentions OOTS once as an aside in a five paragraph post. (Six, if you count the single sentence as a paragraph.)Last edited by oppyu; 2013-10-23 at 01:53 AM.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
All of them. 1-11
However, 4,5,6,7 should be a single entry, with four links rather than a separate entry for each post. Same for 10,11.
oppyu, I think it perfectly valid to include The Giant's comments on roleplaying in general. It doesn't have to relate directly to events in the comic. Although comments like this should go in a separate section.Last edited by Ron Miel; 2013-10-23 at 03:49 AM.

I'm pretty much the opposite of concise. If I fail to get to the point, please ask me and I'm happy to (attempt to) clarify.

I'm iffy on 10 and 11, but I think if either is included, the other definitely should be.

Also I would vote against 10/11 and instead vote in favor of No baby <anything> should have stats (so I would nominate/vote on it) - While 10 is funny and has the answer to the question, it doesn't provide any reasoning.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Rich was responding to my quote, in which I cram 3 fanciful but improbable pet forum theories into an em dash (—). I included Miko = blackguard, Haley = aasimar, and Belkar = gets magic so he needn't breathe, circumventing his prophecy. Rich said, don't forget pet forum theory #4, Right-Eye's daughter.
If it proves anything, it's that there is no such Protection from Suffocation spell on the horizon. (Alternately, that I was right and they're all true.) BUT that's a big if; his mention of Redcloak's niece likely means "this, too, is a pet forum theory" and no more.Last edited by Fish; 2013-10-24 at 03:50 PM.
The Giant says: Yes, I am aware TV Tropes exists as a website. ... No, I have never decided to do something in the comic because it was listed on TV Tropes. I don't use it as a checklist for ideas ... and I have never intentionally referenced it in any way.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Alright, the results: 1, 3, 4, 8, 10 were voted into the index. They will be added in the next update.
If everyone agrees with ChristianSt / Jasdoif on their suggested comment replacing 10, please make more motions to that effect.
We will now resume taking nominations for quotes to be removed from the index. These nominations will be voted on later."And yet, will we ever come to an end of discussion and talk if we think we must always reply to replies? For replies come from those who either cannot understand what is said to them, or are so stubborn and contentious that they refuse to give in even if they do understand." - St. Augustine

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
I like 10 better than the proposed replacement. I think it's pithier.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
I prefer the replacement for 10. It is longer but with that it's more descriptive of Rich's opinions on the subject with no ambiguity. I think 10 could be taken (by a minority of people) that Rich thinks it's okay to place newborns in campaigns as long as they have that stat block .
10 is great for one of those 'classic' Giant comments that tend to float around in sigs and quotes so everyone will already know it, but it's not necessary here.

Re: The Index of the Giant's Comments
Assuming it's given a descriptive link like the one in that post, I think 10 works fine as it is.
