Re: Feytalist's Fantastically Freakish First Random Banter #171
I'm writing some comedy for my stage act, guys.
Comedy is the easiest thing to write, because you get an actual physical response if it's good.

Recently baet the main plot of Skyrim. Was pretty fun. Now doing the optional quests. Am constantly being reminded how much fun the Daedra quests are.

Have fun with your (supposedly) infinite quests!
ION: I'm getting my wisdom teeth extracted tomorrow. This is the first real surgery I've had. So extremely nervous.
IOON: Apparently my school's netbooks originally had Windows 7 Professional installed on them. But then my school's administrators put Windows XP on them. I mean, I know XP is a good OS and all, but whyyyyyyyyyy?
IRN: My school's administration is so stupid. They block the task manager, but not the registry editor.

Re: Feytalist's Fantastically Freakish First Random Banter #171
Ya, at my highschool last year, they blocked google but no other search engines. They argued that it could be used to search for porn. Sometimes it is the filter, but sometimes the people the people operating the filter are just as bad. Oh well, our generation will (hopefully) have some experiance with being on the bad side of that (it was computer games for me), and the generation after us will have a much harder time of getting around that stuff. Hopefully, with less stuff that they need blocked.

Re: Feytalist's Fantastically Freakish First Random Banter #171
I got Youtube blocked in my school for a short time.
how?
I was watching a video of a mongoose fighting a cobra. Then of a lion cub fighting a cobra. Then some por-wait, no, that was a video of a hippo getting attacked by a whole lion pride, and not giving a damn, because they couldn't hurt it.
Sure, I was SUPPOSED to be researching Part V of the Treaty of Versailles, but still!

Re: Feytalist's Fantastically Freakish First Random Banter #171
YouTube is also on my school's blacklist. And it's one of those sites (like Facebook) that they don't give a reason for. And it's not like there's porn on there, it's against the site's policy. The closest it comes to you have to be 18+ for and have an account to view. Plus my bio teacher last year showed us videos on YouTube all the time. So it's really stupid.
Yeah, that'll be good. On the downside, no salty/hard food for Thanksgiving. On the upside, lots of pumpkin pie.
IRN: I forgot something: I'll be staying up way past my bedtime tonight so I can sleep through it tomorrow. Going to how far I can get through Skyward Sword. Or at least, I hope I will be able to. I haven't exactly told my dad yet.

Re: Feytalist's Fantastically Freakish First Random Banter #171
Do you honestly feel like they need to give a reason for those two? You do realise that the school internet connection is not there to give you free access to the internet for your own personal use, particularly not on bandwidth heavy websites. They have to pay for what they use and ensure a reliable connection for all legitimate teacher and student use.
If you have a legitimate study reason to be using sites such as these during class time, you may be able to get an exception, but don't then expect to be using it for personal use.

Re: Feytalist's Fantastically Freakish First Random Banter #171
Eh, we give the school 8 hours of our cotton pickin' time almost every day, the least they can do is give us a little free Internet. I'm on Twitter all the time in fourth block. And reading Dinosaur Comics. And sleeping.

Personally, I think there should be no school. That way every kid never needs to feel bad about their grades. EVER! ITS PERFECT! And teachers don't get overworked either! /sad

Re: Feytalist's Fantastically Freakish First Random Banter #171
No, the mere fact that you are going to school somewhere does not (and should not) grant you the right to use their internet connection, for free, for your own personal use.
Certain places may decide to provide such use (e.g. for morale/etc), but that is at their discretion and they can still then block any personal use sites that are a strain on resources.
Then there are people that will abuse any free service, even when it is against the terms of service.

Re: Feytalist's Fantastically Freakish First Random Banter #171
Today I remembered why I'll miss my school.
Planning a mass rickroll... for the graduation... with actual instrumentation... given by the orchestra. Also, considering doing the Zelda item obtained song routine for my co-rickroll-conspirator.
It will probably mean I won't see my studies certificate 'till 2014 and won't get to college due to it but it will be totally worth it. Edgar Allen free graduation for once. The Iron Avatarist Crypt of Fame - Exorcising photobucket from the historic archives of the forum.

Re: Feytalist's Fantastically Freakish First Random Banter #171
Well, that may become partially true in the future. If we get online HS, then there will still be grading to be done, but kids may never have to step foot in a school building! At least, that is the dream anyway. Solves the internet problem too, as the kids are using there own internet, for the parents to moniter.

Re: Feytalist's Fantastically Freakish First Random Banter #171
What if you pay tuition, doesn't that entitle to use the internet connection since you are technically paying for it?
I'm sure there would be a social skills subject...
Sounds very Asimovian though, kinda reminds me one of his short stories if only I could remember its name.Last edited by AsteriskAmp; 2011-11-22 at 10:15 PM.

Re: Feytalist's Fantastically Freakish First Random Banter #171
As if the bullying that goes on is any better. Taking either to its extreme, we can have a nerdy computer wiz culture with no social skills, or a metal rockstar culture where we are all either the bully, the bullied, or the bystander. It is not like bullying is everything in school, but neither is it the case that people would never get outside the home if school was entirely online. Besides, there is still skype, which is close enough. Only differance is you can remove people from contacts, whereas you can't just leave school.
EDIT: Sorry about the accidental DP. Here:
SpoilerUltimately, that would probably reflect badly on the school if a lot of people misused it. Same with HS. One must consider how it reflects on the school. About HS though. Although, sure it's their right to restrict what they want, I think it is a poor decision (that they have a right to) to begrudge the students a couple games here and there. It would be advisable that it is permitted in HS, so long as they fall within reasonable bounds.Last edited by 101jir; 2011-11-22 at 11:02 PM.
