Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Suddenly, a flurry of arrows come down upon each of you as archers fade into view, 20 feet away. You see 2 robe-wearing people behind them, presumably spellcasters of some kind.
SpoilerThis is the start of a new combat, so welcome to the surprise round.
Each of you is taking 3 attacks from the archers. Each attack is at +7.
The first attack does 1d8+1 (+1 longbow)+3d6 (Sneak attack)+1d6 (Fire)
The second attack does 1d8+1 (+1 longbow)+3d6 (Sneak attack)+1d6 (Cold)
The third attack does 1d8+1 (+1 longbow)+3d6 (Sneak attack)+1d6 (Electricity)Last edited by qwertyu63; 2013-01-17 at 12:43 PM.

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Algrith, seeing that the warrior is down and they are vastly outnumbered, knows that they will not survive for long while surrounded. Quickly surveying their surroundings, he thinks up a plan of action to save them.
"Hold on, I'm going to buy us some time and distance" he whispers as he reaches out and touches both the fallen warrior and his friend as his eyes shine for a moment with a blue-green glow and they disappear.
Spoiler
So, delay until after Imaran acts and then reach out and touch both Imaran and Tarmikos then use Psionic Dimension Door to take us behind the tree at the lower left of the map. Wish I couldn't have quickened it and got off a blast, but oh well.
Ectoplasmic Sheen is just psionic grease, by the way, in the next dialogue.
As they reappear, Algrith whispers to Imaran.
"Now what? I can place a wall of energy around them... and then summon one of my creatures or create an ectoplasmic sheen but I need to move closer. Perhaps transforming into a more fearsome creature and doing these things?"

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
Imaran gestures towards the two casters, and a small fire flickers about his fingers, then leans back towards Algirth, accepting the teleport.
I think that might keep them off-balance for a bit. Can you heal Tarmikos?
SpoilerCasting burning blood with a necrotic cyst attached (Turn undead uses at -1). One of the casters needs to make a DC 19 Fort save and the other and 5 of the archers need to make DC 15 Fort saves. If they fail, they are infected with necrotic cysts, and therefore take a -2 to attacks and ac and a -4 to saves. After that, the same people need to make DC 19/14 Fort saves vs burning blood. Note that if they failed the first save, the second save DC is effectively boosted by 4 (since they take a -4 to saves). My Homebrew:

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
The archers you inflicted fall over in pain, but the casters show a bit more resolve. The teleport which was delayed happens.
One of them speaks a few words of clearing, while the other asserts their will on the world.
SpoilerThat is, in order:
The archers you hit are out.
The first caster is casting Dispel Magic to wipe away the Boiling Blood from them both, while the second has Iron Heart Surge'd away the necrotic cyst. The caster level check is (I am not listing the caster level, as to maintain surprise):
(1d20)[20]
(1d20)[4]
EDIT: the first (which was on his friend) passed. He is still under the effect.
The first caster then orders the archers, pointing as he does: "Alright, you guys go to the wagon. You guys, watch for foes. And you, use that thing on me, I gave it to you for a reason!"
That last guy pulls out a strange, slender device, and shoots a mist at the first caster... (cont. in next post...)Last edited by qwertyu63; 2013-02-08 at 10:12 PM.

SpoilerThat mist is... Oh, I'll be blunt, A bit of homebrew I made up, it is effectively a non-magical Dispel Magic (Again hiding the CL)
(1d20)[5]
That one also failed
"Didn't work, try again later. Now the matter of looting..." Then the leader speaks up again "Guys, maybe we should just get out of here. They didn't go very far."

Algrith, tired of this, steps out and looks at the assemblage as he pulls a small prism from his pouch.
"In'vlag Tugath Duclear!"
With that a beam like a rainbow emanates form his hand at one of the sorcerers and the leader.
Spoiler
Rainbow Blast at the left sorcerer and the leader. From the map I should be able to get at least one of the archers.

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
The archers you hit fall quickly, but the others are a bit more resolute, although you did hit them all. The leader decides to just end this battle, pulling out a scroll from his bag, then reading the words inside. He and his caster allies vanish, leaving the archers at your mercy.
SpoilerThe fight is over, but if you wanted to see the final map. So, what do you guys want to do to these guys? Wipe them out, scare them off, capture them or something else? At this point it is effortless to do so.

"Oy, I'm getting sick and tired of seeing the big fish get away, leaving their small fry to be cleaned up." Tarmikos complains, retrieving a rope from his bag. "No point in letting them run around; they're probably wanted, so I say we drag them to the next town and see if we can get reimbursed for our time."

After tying everyone up, you resume your trip (a bit slower due to being down a horse) and reach the city of Bluesage.
If you go and turn in the guys:
SpoilerTotal bounty on them of 1974 GP. The total value of their possessions (98974 gp) is also awarded to you, minus a 15% processing fee. Total amount turned over to your group: 86101.9 gp. (To help, divided between the 3 of you that are here, that is 28700.63 gp for each of you, with an extra copper piece floating around as a remainder.)

Re: Explorers of Acacia - Main thread
It is, surprisingly, Imaran who breaks the silence first.
We should recruit some new members for our team -- we've lost quite a few since we began chasing this particular foe. It seems unwise to fight him at only part strength.
Shall we meet up back here in, say, five hours? See if there is anyone who seems like they might be helpful and bring them back here.

Algrith looks at his two companions and frets visibly at the thought of going out and meeting new people.
"If you think its for the best... Then, yes I'll do it."
With that he nervously turns and thinks on finding new friends and allies.

"Regardless of our goals, it looks like we won't be able to get anything done alone... We've not much choice, my friend." Tarmikos calls loud enough for Algrith to hear, before continuing to look into the sky, sitting on the edge of the fountain.
-The more people that get involved, the more I'm responsible for... the more lives I ruin... like it or not, my ledger is as red as yours is...- He looks into the fountain, and splashes his reflection once, before walking off. -I will make up for my mistakes... I won't stop until I'm dead.-

Algrith hears Tarmikos words as he wonders into the crowd, wringing his hands ever so slightly, an expression in his face that is half grimace and half forced smile. Trying not to turn around to his two companions, he walks off muttering incoherently under his breath.
Snapping his fingers in realization, he looks around until he spots a tavern and proceeds towards it.
"Might as well sample the local fare well looking about for company..." he trails off as he begins walking towards the smell, oblivious to the fact that he is not even hungry.
